Locked in

It's a random generated prompt, so the idea is not my, but I kind of made it mine while writing, changing a few things.

Rose and the Doctor getting locked in a store.

(It came out more like a mall. Or a planet, you could say. But the point is the same.)

Also, warning: this is long. Way longer than what I planned. I could have stopped writing more than one time, but yet, I wrote more and more. Sorry for that, I hope it doesn't come through as forced or anything. I enjoyed it, and hope that you will as well.

Also 2)

Don't expect anything, there isn't even a kiss, they are barely holding hands. But it's them and they're like that. I tried, and this is what happened.

"If I'd known that we end up like that, I wouldn't have asked to come here." Said Rose looking apologetically at the Doctor.

"It's not your fault. It was a nice evening. It started as a nice evening anyway. We couldn't know it will take that long, and that. . . that person was going to hit me. . . and then you would hit him. . .then we'd try to avoid everyone until we end up stuck here." The Doctor said, summing up what happened to their evening.

"Where do you want to go next?" The Doctor asked.

"Hmm, I don't know, I'm tired." Said Rose sitting down to the seat next to the control panel. She was tired but wasn't sure about the Doctor. She really hoped that he wouldn't go on an adventure without her.

"Well, we don't have to go anywhere, so you can lay down if you want." Offered the Doctor, while leaning to the control panel.

"Not like that. I don't know, we were at a lot of places in a row, and I feel like I need a break." She said honestly, not looking up at him.

"Okay." He said, surprising Rose. "Then do you want to go to your mother?" He asked, but hoped for a 'no'. He didn't want to go there but hoped that, if Rose wanted to, he didn't sound annoyed.

"I know you don't want to go there, but I would like to see her, actually." Rose tried to put her thoughts into words, it would be good to see her.

The Doctor saw on Rose that she really was tired, and it was totally normal that she wanted to see her mother. He couldn't blame her and wanted her to be as happy and energetic as she used to be, so he decided to do something good for her.

"It's okay, we can go if you want to." He said with a smile, trying to make her happier. She was more important than him anyway.

"One more thing. You know, I wanted to bring her something. Because her birthday is near, and I wanted to give her something special." Said Rose with a little volume, trying not to bother her friend even more, what she felt like she was doing, with a nervous smile.

"Oh. In that case, there is one more stop before we go to her." Said the Doctor then turned to the console and started pushing buttons while talking to her. "There is a planet near here, the biggest shopping centre in the universe. It's full with a lot of supermarkets and smaller shops and traders, you can find there anything, everything really." He stopped for a moment. "Expect weapons, of course." He said, then turned to face Rose, once again, smiling. "Shall we go then?" He asked, Rose nodded and he pulled the last lever, the handbrake.

When they arrived they both fell to the ground. The Doctor stood up, then helped Rose up. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to the door, where he stopped to get up his coat. Then he opened the door for them, and after Rose, he stepped out.

"Okay, so there are this many shops. You didn't say there was this much." Said Rose, looking over the place they just arrived to, finding so many stores in front of her. But not even stores, there were more than 5, as much as she could see from them, supermarkets.

"Well yes, it's important to know what we want, because in other ways we would be here for days." The Doctor turned to her. "So, what are we searching for?" He asked.

"Uhm. . ." Started thinking Rose. Then came a good idea. "A coat! She wanted to buy a new coat last Christmas, but she didn't in the end. I don't remember why, though she's still saying it."

"A coat. Let's go find a clothing store!" The Doctor said with a smile, then grabbed Rose's hand, just to make sure he wouldn't lose her here, and started looking for a shop they needed.

They entered a shop and started looking for a coat. Unfortunately, they went in two other ways, and the Doctor didn't know what kind of coat they were searching for.

He found one that he thought everybody would like, so he went looking for Rose, trying to remember his way between the people.

"Rose, I think I found one she might like." He said when he went next to her.

"What colour is it?" She asked. It was a simple question. Was everything depending on that?

"Blue." He said and Rose just smiled. She knew it.

"Then it's not really good for her." She replied.

They went looking for another coat, but now together.

They were searching for a long time. They went into four different shoppes until, after a few hours, Rose stopped in front of a coat.

"I think I found the perfect one." She said showing it to the Doctor.

"If you think so." Said the Doctor, not wanting to disagree, she knew her mother better anyway.

"Yeah. We can go." She said. They paid for the coat and went out of the store.

"Where did we come in?" It wasn't her fault that she didn't know. The place was big with lots of shops.

"That way I think." Answered the Doctor, pointing in a way.

They took their way back to the TARDIS which they realized was far from them. She was parked out of the supermarket they were in.

"Do you want to buy anything while we're here?" Asked the Doctor from Rose. She looked at him, holding up the coat in one hand. The other was holding the Doctor's.

"I don't know. We get what we wanted. I didn't want to go shopping with you. It's not like I need, or want anything specific and you would become really bored at the end." She said but asked back.

"Why, do you want to buy something?"

She had the point, and was right, he would become bored. She knew him well enough for that. He didn't want anything either, but before he could answer a man stopped in front of them.

"Hello! Good evening!" He seemed nervous but nice.

"It's a robbery. Hands up and give me your values!" His personality changed much in their eyes to this sentence.

You could think about it as a kind of a milestone in a couple's life. Being robbed together. See what the other does under stress. Not like they were a pair. Or haven't seen the other in stressful situations.

Rose started to laugh. The man pulled out a gun with slightly shaky hands.

"With respect sir, but you're robbing two people in a supermarket? Don't you think there are cameras?" She asked still smiling.

"Rose." Started the Doctor in a serious tone. "Some things are not like on Earth. For example, there are no cameras."

"What? But what do they do if they're getting robbed?"

"They aren't." He said, but the man next to them was enough reason for him to explain it wasn't that easy.

"Everything here, I mean everything you can buy, has a chip in it. It's so little you can't even see it. But it's there. They take it out when you pay for them, but if you don't, well, then they don't. It's similar on Earth too, the difference is that you can't take it off the planet. If the thing you stole goes further than 500 meters, it's blowing up. About the money, it's quite different-"

"Okay, enough from the talking!" Shouted the man furiously. "The next one who talks will have a bruise." He said seriously. And they listened. They wanted to listen. Rose did. But the Doctor couldn't stop. He waited, but nothing happened, so he just had to.

"Even if you talk first?" He asked quietly, trying to make Rose laugh. He succeeded. He didn't want the evening to end like that, and Rose to be frightened. But he should have been more serious. Because the man wasn't joking like him. And the Doctor saw the back of the weapon closing to his head.

The man hit the Doctor, who fell back. Rose rushed to him, checking if he was alright. When she was sure about that, she went to the man angrily. Nobody had the right to hit the Doctor. Not this person, a pity robber, a criminal who's attacking people in a supermarket.

"You!" She started. "You think you can hurt people? You think you're so much better? Well, you're not."

"Rose." Tried the Doctor to stop her while standing up. He didn't want more complications and he was worried for Rose.

"No, let me. He's no danger. Look at him, his hands are shaking, he's sweating, and he hit you." She said, not looking away from the man. Who was less and less confident as Rose was approaching him.

But he has a gun. Wanted to say the Doctor, but didn't. Rose punched the man on his head then in the stomach and didn't stop. The Doctor started to feel sorry for the man. He was the bad guy, but he wasn't really good at it. He tried to make them fear but didn't really succeed. They were probably his first victims.

"Rose. Rose calm down. It's okay, I'm okay." He said grabbing her hand. She stopped and turned around.

"I'm sorry, but he deserves it. And not just him, anyone who hurts people. He hurt you." She said honestly looking at the Doctor. He didn't know how to feel at the moment. Part of him was proud, and the man deserved it, but he didn't except this. Also, he was glad that Rose came to help him, but he didn't see her acting like this before. He hugged her and said: "It's okay."

"Hey! Stop!" Yelled a man going in their way with his partner. The Doctor, Rose and the robber all stopped and turned to face them. They had a recognizable uniform. Security guards. As the thief saw them, he tried to save himself.

"They attacked me!"

"What?" Asked Rose. "We didn't. This man tried to rob us." She said defensively.

While she and the man argued the Doctor was busy thinking. To a person who wasn't there, it could make sense that way too. The gun was on the ground, they were together, the man was alone, and shaking, and the Doctor himself was a magnet to the trouble. So he grabbed Rose's hand and whispered. "Run."

When they started to run the guards started too. They ran far from the crime scene and ended up running in a shop after a corner, in the hope of losing them. It was a little coffee bar.

"Doctor, here." Whispered Rose pointing at a storage room in the left corner of the place. The Doctor, trying to make the less sound possible, opened the door with the sonic. They hid in there.

The space in there was little, but it wasn't like they were complaining at the moment. The Doctor felt a warm feeling running through him from being this close to Rose, but he didn't say anything. Rose neither as they were listening if their pursuers had already gone, or not.

After a few minutes of silence, they looked at each other. Rose was the first who talked.

"What do you think?" She whispered.

"What do I think? How, how do you mean? I -" She saw that he was a little lost in his thoughts, so she helped him.

"Do you think they're gone? The security guards?" She made it so clear he needed to understand.

"Yep. I think they are gone." He nodded. "But we could wait one or two more minutes. Just in case."

"Okay." Said Rose without much disagreement. "Just in case."

They stayed there though they weren't in silence for a long time. Now, that Rose dared to speak.

"Why didn't you use the psych paper?" She asked.

"Why didn't I use the psych paper?" He asked back. "Well, it doesn't reallllllllly matter now." He said with a little smile. Why didn't he think about it? Sometimes he didn't understand how he was still alive. Well, tenth regeneration's saying something.

But Rose. Rose was thinking. And he blessed her because of it. He was glad to have her beside him. What would he be without her? Probably some grumpy guy with no second chances. He needed her.

"I'm not saying that I don't like it here, but they must be gone by now." Said Rose because she started to feel the need for air. If she was this close to the Doctor for one more minute- But fortunately she wasn't.

"'S'pose your right." Said the Doctor and opened the door. They walked out of the little storage, acting as nothing had happened, and it was normal. Which was actually partly true, it was normal to them, but not to the others. They succeeded in doing it so naturally, that only a few people stared.

They left the store and Rose grabbed the Doctor's hand as they walked. And she realized she didn't have the coat in her other hand. She looked around but saw it nowhere. She must have lost it when they were running. It was all her fault. Why did they even come here?

"Doctor." Said Rose quietly.

"Yes? Is everything alright?" He asked, seeing her worried face.

"I lost the coat." She said. He stopped and just stared at her. He thought they were going now, but it didn't matter anymore. She lost the coat. How? And, why was this happening to them?

"Okay." He inhaled. "Where did you last see it?" He asked and started to look around himself.

"When the robber came I put it down to a bench. I think I left it there."

"Well let's hope it's still there." Said the Doctor, looking around again. "Why does this place have to be so big?" He asked seriously, with a questioning look on his face, what made Rose giggle.

"You said that it's a good place, and I thought you know it's big. Since you brought us here." Said Rose teasingly.

"Let's just find that bloody coat." He said, trying to sound annoyed, but then just smiled. Of course, it was happening to them.

With time they found the way back and collected the coat.

"There's not many people here." Stated Rose.

"Good observation. S'pose the place's closing soon. We should find the exit."

So they went looking for it. And tried to find it. Then on a low sound, was heard: "Attention to everyone! Please leave the shops the planet is closing down soon."

"Have you ever been locked into a store?" Rose asked curiously.

"No." Answered the Doctor. "Just into prison. That so much less fun." He said it as a joke, but it was true. "Why? You've been?" He asked as curiosity took over him too.

"No. I was just. . . interested." She said.

As they were searching for an exit, Rose realized something.

"Why aren't there any signs? Showing the way out." She asked.

"It's a good question, Rose Tyler, a very good question." Said the Doctor, smiling a little at her, then started thinking. "They must be using some other kind of system. Maybe the doors are on a certain side of the building. But no, then would be signs. . . I don't know, I'm not coming here much." He said wondering.

Suddenly all of the lights went out.

"You better find it out soon." Said Rose.

"Okay, I'll find it out soon." Said the Doctor, and started thinking faster.

"Maybe it has something to do with the shops?" Tried to help Rose.

"The shops?" He looked around, trying to figure it out. "The shops. . ." He said quietly, the cogs working in his head. "The shops!" He yelled suddenly. "You're brilliant, you are!"

Rose just smiled, and didn't interrupt, but hoped that he would tell her what he figured out.

"The shops are in an alphabetical order." Explained the Doctor, seeing her slightly confused face.

"Really? Why didn't we realize it sooner?" She asked.

"Well, it's not in an Earth language, and I didn't pay attention to it."

"But who the hell would do that?" Asked Rose, wondering, she was. Really, who would put stores in the order of an alphabet? There were so many easier ways to describe a direction.

"At least we know the way now. Come on, Rose Tyler!" He smiled and started running in the hope of getting out soon.

They finally reached the door. The Doctor tried to open it, but it was closed. He tried it with the sonic too but didn't succeed. Then he kicked it. It was awful, and his fault. If he'd figured out the way sooner they wouldn't be stuck here.

"It's closed." He said in a defeated voice, turning to Rose, who just witnessed him being angry at a door.

"Yeah, I get that." Rose said. "What do we do now? Search a phone, or...? Is there an emergency number we can call?" She tried to help.

"No, there isn't one. The whole planet is closing down. There's no way out. Sorry, but I think we'll just gonna have to wait." He said apologetically.

"Don't blame yourself. And don't say that you don't, I know you." She said with a little smile. "It was all my fault. If I didn't say to buy something we don't come here in the first place. So if you want to blame someone, blame me, or no one, including yourself."

"You know that I can't blame you. It's not fair." He admitted, putting his hands into his pockets, walking away from the door.

"That was the point. Now, look the bright side. You can experience what is it like to be closed into a shop." She smiled, looking at him.

"Like I wanted to know it that badly." He smiled too. "Though it could be worse, it's just boring." It really could have been worse. For example, if there were other people. I mean, they could enjoy the time better together, than while surrounded by every kind of people.

"We'll talk. You have no adventures for like. . . How long is the planet closed?" Rose asked.

"Like 7 Earth hours." He said, and after a few moments added "I'm going to die here." Rose laughed with him.

"Oh, come on! It's gonna be fun. You never were in a situation like this before, you said. Aren't you curious?" Tried Rose to ease his mood. She didn't want him to be bored and then become rude.

"Well, I meant it when I said that it could be worse. You're here with me. . . I would go mad alone. So glad I've got you." He said honestly, looking at her.

"Yeah. You know, I'm glad too." She said, eyes locking with his.

They stopped for a moment. They were just happy to have each other. Not just today, but in their life. They both needed the other.

"C SECTOR IS CLEAR" A robotic voice broke the silence.

"What was that? Are there other people here?" Rose asked, but the Doctor didn't answer, just pulled her away into a dark corner behind a bench.

"What's happening?" Rose asked again. She didn't like not knowing things.

Two human-sized robots showed up where they were standing a minute earlier.

"These are droids, as you can see. They don't special in anything, you can buy hundreds of them, and they'll do simple jobs for you. Like checking an area, if there are any intruders. Though they don't really good even in that. They have a simple, weak system. They don't check a place or corridor twice. They are only good to do easy tasks and also they can make loud noises when they, like now, search for intruders and find one." Whispered the Doctor. "If we can stay out of their sight once, we're free." He finished.

"They're not really practical then." Said Rose.

"Yeah, but in places like this, you can't steal anything, why pay much for security? There are not many places where people use them, but they're perfect for here."

They weren't noticed by the droids, and after a few minutes they came out.

"So you're sure we don't have to worry about them?" Rose asked.

"Yeah, pretty sure." Nodded the Doctor.

"Okay, but we, I mean I, have another problem."

"What is it?"

"I'm quite hungry." Said Rose. "You know, I haven't eaten anything since the morning." She explained.

"Okay, " Said the Doctor and stopped moving. "We search for a grocery store, and find something for you."

"But I'm not gonna, like, blow up, right?" Asked Rose, remembering what he said earlier.

"Oh, no, nope, you're not. Food is a tricky thing. They don't put the chip into the food, just to the package." The Doctor explained.

"You know it's stealing, right?"

"Well, we're in the need of it, isn't that right? You need to eat. I instead go to prison once again, than to have you starving." He said honestly.

"That's very sweet of you, though we both know you wouldn't be there for long." Said Rose with a little smile. "And hey, you need to eat too."

"I'm probably going to if you do too anyway." He said. " What would you like to eat?"

"Uhm, I want chips. But I don't know if we can make it, it's probably only being here in a frozen form."

"Ah, that's not a problem. I have a function for it on the sonic."

Rose laughed. But why, it was excepted, if she was honest.

"No, really." He smiled.

"You say it can fry them?"

"Well, you could say it's 'frying', but it's actually more complicated. It's-"

"Don't explain it, I'll stay at frying." Said Rose and the Doctor just smiled. She was so. . . human. And so perfect. His wonderful human.

A few minutes later they were sitting and eating at a table at the vending machines. They sat across from each other. They lit a candle since there wasn't any lamp turned on and it was getting dark.

"You know, I was thinking. You can say that it's bad to be locked in here, and I won't argue, but you have to admit that it's not as bad as being locked into a cell." Rose said between two bites.

"Yeah it certainly is more comfortable, I might say." He admitted, putting a bite into his mouth. "And did you know that in prisons they don't make chips?" He asked while pointing one toward her.

"Really?" She asked with a fake surprise. "It's a shame." She smiled.

"It really is." He agreed, smiling with her. "Could make any place better." He said, almost adding 'like you' to the end of his sentence. It really was better that she was with him. It didn't really matter what they were doing until she was there. Though he started feeling thirsty from the salt, eating with her was nice.

Being thirsty made the Doctor think about drinks and he knew what would be the best for the occasion and where he could get it.

"Stay here, don't move an inch, I'll be back in a minute." He said, standing up then running away. Rose didn't even have the time to ask where he was going, he was gone in a second.

A few minutes later he came back with a bottle in his hands.

"Champagne? Seriously?" Asked Rose smiling as he sat down.

"Well, I just thought, you know with the candle and everything, it just helps with the -the atmosphere and the mood, and this nice evening we had, I just thought that this could make a good ending for it." He said in a rush with a little uncertainty. He hoped that she liked the idea. He really thought that this would be a good ending for the day.

"It's very nice, Doctor, and I'm glad you're seeing this as a nice evening. And it's not a bad idea. I just never thought that you would drink champagne with me." She explained.

"You know we already did that."

"Yeah, but it's different, we aren't in cover, or danger, it's just us and I wasn't excepting it."

"There aren't many people I would drink champagne with, Rose Tyler, but you're one of them." He said honestly with a smile as he opened it.

"Oh, I feel lucky." She said while he poured for them.

"No, I'm lucky to have you." He said

"Don't say it. If I weren't, you wouldn't have gotten stuck here."

"Maybe. But I wouldn't want to get stuck here with anyone else." He said, looking at her. This surprised her. She didn't think she was special in anything, but the Doctor seemed to be honest.

"Really?"

"Yes." He said. "So we're both lucky?"

"Definitely." She said with a chuckle. "Only we could've managed to be closed in here. I'm not even surprised."

"Yeah." He agreed, laughing with her.

"At least we have the coat for Mum." Said Rose.

"That damned coat." The Doctor sighed and smiled a little. The coat was the reason they were where they were. But he needed to admit, it had been fun.

"And I don't mind getting stuck if you're with me." Said Rose after a few minutes of silence.

"Really?" He asked. It was a good feeling to hear that. It reminded him of the time when they were on that planet next to a black hole. Luckily this time it wasn't dangerous. Though they will be in trouble when people find them, it's not dangerous for Rose. He's so glad now that they're here, not somewhere else.

"Yeah." Rose said, pulling him back to the present.

"'Cause me neither." He replied.

"That's good." Said Rose.

"Yeah. We're good." He said quietly.

~~~
So it came out longer than I expected. And took more time. But it was fun to write. Hope you enjoyed it. See you later, bye!
