Chapter 2: The Sculptor and his Statue
A sculptor stares at his creation in wonder. The woman he has created is breathtaking, and absolutely perfect in every way. She is stone, perfect and unwavering. He is of flesh, imperfect and weak. The woman of stone is all the sculptor can think of, day and night, until finally, he returns to the place where he created his masterpiece. When he arrives, what does he find, but the perfect woman, now of flesh? She breaks into a smile upon seeing him, and the two rush toward each other, lovestruck smiles on their faces as they meet in the center of the massive room.
Sweet, wholesome words are exchanged between short, chaste kisses within the sculptor's home. The two have made their way into the sculptor's large, well-kept backyard, where they lay upon the grassy hill, watching the night sky, devoid of clouds, and full of its bounty of stars. The moon shines down on the couple, allowing the two to exchange loving glances back and forth, letting the love struck couple get lost in each other's eyes.
Then, the sculptor has an idea. He takes his lover's hand, and the two run into a large, empty, moonlit room, joyous laughter echoing off the otherwise empty halls of the house. A record player sits off to the side, and the sculptor quickly has the device playing soft, calming music for the couple to dance to. The two then set off, starting off with a slow dance. As the music picks up, they get faster, and faster, laughing and staring at each other with pure adoration in their eyes.
Suddenly, the couple can hear nothing but their own pounding heartbeats in their ears. Slowly, the two come to a halt, and their lips close the distance, meeting halfway. Their eyes close, and their lips meet in the middle. The kiss is warm, sweet, and perfect in every way, just like the woman.
And when the sculptor pulls away and opens his eyes, he sees only a statue before him, dressed in the woman's clothes, and standing with him as if he had danced with the statue. And then, he too, became stone. Such was the price of his dance with his goddess. For one night, her immortal beauty would become mortal, and in exchange, his mortal flaws would become immortalized in stone forever.
Until another wish is made, and these statues are permitted to return to flesh, they are to remain of stone, forever just out of reach of the other.
