The Mayor's Intern

"Emma, it's time to get up. You have to be showered and dressed in time for your first day of work." She said quietly as she gently stroked my arm with her soft hand. My eyes were closed and I was trying to wake up and bring my thoughts out of dreamland. After a minute, I finally find the energy to open my eyes. I have to squint as the beginning of the bright morning sun is blinding to my awakening eyes. "Ugh but Regina, I'm only working for you." I groaned, wanting to fall back asleep. "Only me dear? You act as if I'm nothing special." Regina said playfully. The next thing I knew her hands were at my sides and she was laying on top of me as her hands tickled me. My eyes immediately fluttered open and I squealed loudly as she began tickling me. By now I was laughing so hard, I almost had tears coming out of my eyes and I could barely breath. "Regina stop!" I squealed with laughter and trying to kick her off of me. "Mm... I don't think so dear, I'm just having way too much fun." She relied with a smirk. "Gina...please... Stop... I'm awake, I'm awake, I surrender!" I squealed between fits of laughter. She finally say up, straddling my hips. Her brown orbs bore into mine as I attempt to catch my breath. "What the fuck was that?" I laughed. "I thought this would be an interesting and effective way to wake you up, and luckily for me, it was." She answered with a smirk. "Oh you are so gonna get it!" I said playfully. She got up off of me and that's when I noticed she was still in her pajamas. "Did you just wake up?" I asked her. "Yup, and this time your up before the alarm too." She smiled. "Ugh!" I groaned and pushed her off of me lightly. I got up and headed for the shower, which was way too short, but Regina was yelling at me through the door to quote "hurry the fuck up!"

Your changing her Swan, she never would have said that before.

I smiled at the thought. I really was changing her and I was so grateful for that because she is changing me too. I got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around myself before opening the door. "Finally!" She said with a sigh of relief before walking in and shutting the door behind her. I picked out my clothes for the day which were now neatly hung up in Regina's giant closet. By the time I was dressed, Regina had just emerged from the bathroom, her hair dripping, but a large smile painting her flawless face. She quickly got dressed and by the time we were both completely ready to go, we had just enough time to make a quick stop at Granny's for Coffee... Well hot chocolate for me, coffee for Regina.

Regina parked her car in front of the small diner and we both walked in quickly, the frigid air biting the little bit of flesh that wasn't covered. The bell jingled again and I looked around the diner to see it fairly full. "Good morning Ms.Mills, Emma!" Ruby said happily as she trotted up to us to take our orders. "Just a coffee and a hot chocolate with cinnamon." Regina ordered for the both of us. Ruby looked at us confused for a moment before the smile returned just a little bit larger on her face. "Coming right up!" She said. She looked at me and gave me a subtle wink before turning around to prepare our hot beverages. Regina and I sat next to each other up at the bar. To my right sat a very loud short man with a large beard. "Who are you?" She asked me with a look of distaste. "Leroy, where are your manners? Emma is a guest, you are to treat her with as much respect as you would give me." Regina snapped. "Sorry sister. I'm Leroy." He said with an awkward smile. "It's okay, I'm Emma." I responded. "So Emma what brings you here to Storybrooke?" He asked. "Oh, I got an internship with the mayor." I said happily. Leroy looked over at Regina in shock. "You? You have an intern? Since when?" Leroy questioned harshly. "Since a few days ago, now if you don't behave yourself, I will gladly call sheriff Graham again." Regina said sternly and that shut Leroy right up. He placed a few dollars on the counter and stormed out of the diner. "Someone's grumpy." I mumbled causing Regina to chuckle. "You don't know the half of it dear." She responded and I giggled. "Alright one hot chocolate with cinnamon, and one espresso." Ruby said placing the coffee mugs I front of us. "Thanks." I said with a smile. "Sure, no problem Emma." Ruby said in response to my thanks. After a moment, a small brunette with a pixie haircut sat down in the seat that Leroy had vacated only minutes before. "So you like cinnamon on your hot chocolate too." I heard her soft voice say. "Yup, I refuse to have it any other way." I giggled. "You must be Mary Margret, Ruby was telling me about you yesterday when I ordered my hot chocolate with cinnamon." I said with a smile. "Yup the one and only." She responded with a large smile. "You must be new here, I've never seen you around before." Mary Margret realized. "Yes, Miss Blanchard, Emma is my new intern." Regina said after being silent for a while. "Oh, Ms. Mills, I'm sorry I didn't even notice you were there." She said apologetically. Regina dismissed her with a quick flick of her wrist. "So Emma, right?" The small brunette asked. "Yup, that's me." I said before taking a sip of my hot chocolate. She looked down at the table and smiled. "If I ever had a daughter, I was planning on naming her Emma." She said quietly and looked up at me with a smile. I could sense Regina's discomfort in the way the conversation had turned and she immediately stood up. "Come on Miss Swan, we have work that needs to be done." She said demanding me to get up and follow her. I sighed, but not before Ruby could rush over to us on the other side of the counter. "Hey how about a girls night, just the three of us? Well, more like a get to know you girls night." Ruby giggled. I smiled at the idea. "Sure sounds like fun." I said happily. "I'm in!" Mary Margret responded happily. "How about tonight at my place say around 7?" The small brunette added. "Awesome, I'll see you then. I'll just meet Ruby here and she can show me where you live." I said standing up to leave. "See you tonight!" Ruby called out as I walked towards the door to follow Regina. I spun around to look back at Ruby. I glared at her playfully and stuck my tongue out at her and she immediately did the same. I giggled, then turned around again to follow Regina out the door and to the warmth of her car.

We drove to her office in a comfortable silence. When we arrived, we walked to the building and took the elevator up to her office. "Good morning Ms. Mills." I heard Tiffany say. "As to you." Regina said as she quickly made her way to her office. "Good morning Tiffany." I said kindly to the blonde behind the tall desk. "Emma..." She responded, her smile fading and replaced with a frown. I shake my head and walk into Regina's office, closing the door behind us. "What was that about?" I grumbled as Regina sat behind her desk. "She gets that way around people she doesn't know. That, and she's probably jealous that I hired you as my intern instead of her." Regina said with a smirk and I smiled, kneeing what she meant. "Take a seat dear, I have some papers I need signed while I go through the town's code of conduct book." She said handing me a stack of papers and a pen. "Sit where you'd like and make yourself comfortable, we're going to be here for a while." I nodded and I took a seat on the couch and leaned my back against the armrest and pulled my feet up. "Uh uh, boots off my couch."Regina said. I blushed and quickly took off my boots, leaving me just in my socks before putting my feet back up. I saw Regina smile and shake her head, probably thinking about how childish I am.

The work day went by slowly and I glanced up at the clock and noticed it was lunch time. Upon seeing my gaze up at the clock, Regina too, looked at it. "Emma, why don't you go run out and get us some lunch." She said pulling some money out of her purse. "Sure." I shrugged and stood up putting the stack of papers on the coffee table. I walked over to her and took the money from her hands. "I'll be back in a bit." I said with a smile. "Alright dear, don't freeze." She warned playfully as I walked out the door. I closed the office door behind me and giggled and I looked up to see Tiffany glaring at me. I rolled my eyes and went to the elevator, relieved to see that it opened immediately. I got off the elevator and out the front doors of the town hall. I jogged the few blocks to Granny's to help heat myself up. I ran inside, the bell above the door announcing my presence. "Lunch?" Ruby asked and I nodded, "alright here you go, one fresh Caesar salad and a grilled cheese." She said with her normal chipper smile. I looked at her amused but also a little confused at how she knew what I wanted. "Regina always texts me 15 minutes before she picks it up, with the order." She said answering my question. "Awesome thanks Ruby." I said taking the brown takeout bag from her and handing her the money Regina had given me in exchange. "See you tonight!" Ruby called out as I left and I waved my hand goodbye signaling that, I too, would see her tonight.

I got back to her office, Tiffany once again glaring at me as I walked passed her. I closed the large double doors behind me and placed the brown bag on Regina's desk before taking out its contents. "I'm impressed that you guessed I would order a grilled cheese." I smiled at the brunette who was still working. "Oh come on Emma, you've had like three since we've met. That and your childish behavior told me that it was the right choice for lunch." She smirked. "Hey!" I giggled and I tossed the now crumpled up paper bag at her. "Just saying the truth dear." Regina stated. "Yeah, yeah, whatever." I responded with a roll of my eyes and a sigh. "Don't do that or your eyes will stick." She said jokingly. "Sure Regina, like you actually believe that. You've rolled your eyes at me more than I have." I teased. "Sure dear." Regina replied taking a bite of her salad.

After we had eaten our lunch, we resumed our tasks and worked on until it was time to go home for the day. "So how did you enjoy your first day of being my personal assistant?" Regina asked on our way home. "No complaints, other than that it was extremely boring." I giggled. "Some days are better than others, I'm sure you'll find that out sooner or later." Regina responded with a wink. I blushed knowing what she meant. "So I'll be back kinda late tonight, so you don't have to stay up for me." I said once we were inside the warmth of Regina's house. "Your actually going?" Regina asked somewhat surprised. "Well, yeah, I finally have a chance to have some real friends thanks to you." I smiled at Regina kindly. She smiled back and hugged me. "Alright dear, have fun." She said. And I left the house once more to walk to Ruby's.
