Not Giving Up

It's 8:15 the morning after the ultrasound, the bright morning sun streaming into the room through the open curtains. I roll over in bed, my eyes still closed and I throw my arm on the other side of the bed to bring Emma close, but my arm landed on the soft blankets that surrounded me. "Emma come back to bed baby." I groaned, my eyes still closed, but I got nothing in response.

This is so weird, Emma never wakes up before 9 unless she has to. I thought?

I sat up and opened my eyes, and squinted into the bright sunlight that filled my room to try and see if i could find Emma. After a minute my eyes began to adjust. I was the only one in the room. Nothing looked out of place, but something just felt off to me. "Emma?" I called again not knowing where she could be. I looked through every room on the top floor of my house. No Emma. I quickly ran downstairs, but there was still no sign of her and at that moment, an alarm went off in my head. Yes, something was extremely wrong.

Emma wouldn't just disappear without a note.

a note!

I ran back to the bedroom looking for a note from my blonde, but there wasn't one. My heart started to beat a little faster with each passing second. I rushed back down the stairs and looked in every possible place Emma could have left a note, but once again, my luck had run out and I began to panic.

"Shit, Emma where are you?" I asked myself out loud. if she went to Granny's she would have left a note for sure, hell if she went anywhere she would have left a note telling me where she was. I couldn't think of anything more to do so I picked up my phone and called the only person I knew who could help me find my girl friend.

"Hello?" a voice on the other end said. "Ruby, its Regina, I need your help. Emma, Emma's gone! she just disappeared without a trace and somethings wrong, I can feel it!" I cried into the phone. "And what makes you think that I would be willing to help you?" Ruby asked and I could picture her rolling her eyes as she said this. "Ruby, Please. I know, I know you have a thing for her. I know you love her and so do I, but if we don't get to her now, we may be too late. Please..." I begged. I heard a sigh on the other end of the line "Alright Regina, but lets get one thing straight, I'm doing this for Emma. I still hate you." She said a bit kinder. I scrunched up my nose wondering why the hell she would hate me, but then again I did pretty much destroy her life and chance to be with Emma, so I guess thats understandable. "Well I guess we're on the same page then." I responded. "great." I heard her say. "great. get here as fast as you can, I still have to inform Mary Margaret." I said and hung up on Ruby and immediately called Mary Margaret. The phone rang and rang and rang. "this is just fucking great." said frustrated after about thirty seconds of letting the phone ring. I hung up, grabbed my coat off the coat rack by the front door and ran outside into the cold and got into my car. I didn't bother putting on my seatbelt. I was too worried about Emma to worry about my own safety. I sped through town and to Storybrooke Elementary where Mary Margaret taught and didn't ben bother to park the car. I just pulled through the drop off and turned off my car before rushing inside the building. "Ah, ms..." the receptionist tried to talk to me but I was already half way down the hallway to the fourth grade teacher's classroom. I threw open the door and ran to the pixie haired woman. "Regina what are you..." she tried to ask, but I was in no mood to explain. "Alright everyone, Class dismissed." I said. I grabbed her by the hand, causing her to drop the piece of chalk in her hand. "Regina, please explain yourself! I'm in the middle of a class, I'll dismiss MY class when its over!" the school teacher said. I stopped and looked at her worried "Its Emma. she's gone. we have to go now if we want to find her before its too late." I said and I could feel the tears beginning to sting the back of my eyes. The shocked and worried look on her face said it all. she ran to her desk and grabbed her purse. "Boys and girls, I have an emergency to attend to, class is dismissed." she said and together we ran back to my car and got in. We drove by the diner and as we passed it Mary Margaret looked at me. "can't ruby help us find her?" she questioned. " she's already back at my place." I answered. "Well what about your mom and sister?" she asked and pointed out the window of the car. I saw the two woman walking on the sidewalk on the other side of the street. Not giving a shit about who I held up, I made a quick u-turn and rolled down my window as I did. "Mother, Zelena, get in. we need your help." I said desperately. Zelena obviously saw the worried look on my face and she looked at mother. "It's Emma isn't it?" Zelena asked and I nodded. They immediately climbed into the car and we took off once again for my house.

"How did you know it was about Emma?" I asked my sister. "I saw Neal earlier and he said something... interesting about Emma..." She answered and that only caused my anger and worry for Emma to sky rocket. We pulled up to my house, Ruby sitting in her car in the front. We got out and the four of us ran to Ruby. "Okay so whats the plan?" Ruby asked. "You." I answered, "You are the key to finding Emma." I said wanting for my plan to work. "But Regina, I haven't transformed in years, hell, I don't even know if I can still control it!" she said with wide eyes. "Ruby, listen to me. You CAN do this. You have to do it for Emma." Mary Margret said Ruby took a deep and unsure breath. "Alright, but no one is near me except for Regina. She will help me if I, for whatever reason go crazy." Ruby said and I nodded, a bit of a smile beginning to form on my face. "This might actually work." I said in my head. "alright, mother, Zelena, and Ma-"" It's Snow, just Snow." The pixie haired woman interrupted me. I was stunned at first but just nodded, knowing that if we didn't start moving soon, we might be in big trouble. "Mother, you go into the house and get Emma's red leather jacket and come with Ruby get a locater spell from Rumple. I have a feeling your the only way we can get through to that bastard . Zelena and Snow, go into town and see if you can find Neal. he obviously knows something." I said "Oh fuck Rumple dear, my magic is just as powerful, and who knows, if it is Neal, Rumple might have something to do with Emma's disappearance" Mother said and we all nodded in agreement. I threw my car keys to Zelena and Snow deciding that we could use Ruby's car if we needed it. Zelena and Snow headed back into town while Mother did as I said and grabbed Emma's jacket off the coat rack. "Get in, we need to get to my vault." I said. we all climbed into Ruby's car and I drove the car the five blocks to the cemetery. We got out and headed towards the marble crypt. "Ruby, stay out here and keep watch in case someone we don't want to see comes running in." I ordered and Ruby took her position in front of the vault while mother and I made our way inside. It was exactly how I left it... well it was months ago since I've been here, especially now that I have... or had Emma. Right now Emma is our priority.I have to focus. I walked over to my fathers coffin and pushed it to the side. "Very smart dear. hiding your vault under your fathers crypt. Oh how I miss him so." Mother said sadly as she traced the marble coffin delicately with her fingers. The dark stairs were barely visible in the darkness, so with a flick of my wrist, the torches that lined the stairwell lit up showing us the way. Mother followed me down into the darkness. with every step the temperature dropped. Just as I had remembered. I made a right turn once we reached the bottom of the stairs and led her into the room where I had kept all my magical possessions. "This will be perfect dear. just give me a few minutes and I'll have the potion ready." She said. for the first time... ever, Mother is actually helping someone other than herself, and honestly its kind of freaking me out. "Why?" I asked. A simple question that I was wondering but had no intention of saying. it just slipped. "Why what dear?" she answered and stopped what she was doing to turn around and look at me. "Your actually helping me and I can't remember the last time you've helped anyone but yourself. Its... good." I said slightly embarrassed at the words coming out of my mouth. "Regina, the years we were apart made me realize that I should have been there for you and I shouldn't have killed Daniel. I was just too caught up in my own dreams that I didn't even get the chance to ask you what you wanted. Now that we are here together, its like I'm getting a second chance and I'm not going to mess it up again. I'm going to be the mother that you and Zelena never had. that is my promise. I'm not giving up until your happy Regina, and its obvious that you're happy with her. Happier than you ever were with Daniel and I'm going to help you fight for her. No matter what." I couldn't help the tears from falling. I don't know if it was because of all the emotions I was feeling about Emma's disappearance or the fact that mother was actually apologizing for killing Daniel all those years ago and trying to make it right. She embraced me and wrapped her arms around me and I melted into them. This was something that I had yearned for from her for years and to be honest I never thought that this would happen, then again, I never thought that anything that has been happening this last month or so would. I pulled away and wiped away my tears. "Thank you mother, but right now, we have to focus on saving Emma." I said giving her a weak smile. She smiled back at me before we both went back to work on finding Emma.

After a few minutes, the potion was finally done and I was eager to pour it on Emma's red leather jacket. "Regina wait." mother said and thats when I noticed another potion in her hand and I looked at her questioningly. "oh, now don't give me that look dear, this isn't anything bad, this is to help you." she said with a genuine smile which I wasn't used to seeing. "Help me with what?" I asked still unsure about how i felt about this. "Do you remember, all those years ago when I hired that man-" "you mean the prostitute?" I asked benign to glare at her. "If thats what you want to call him, then yes. Anyways, you drank a potion to make you infertile." mother continued. "Yes, your point mother, please. we have my girlfriend to save." I said getting annoyed. "While you were here in this land, I spent most of my time trying to figure out a way to reverse it and I did. I was able to make it here while you were finishing the locater spell." she confessed. "Why? you know Emma's pregnant, I'm already going to have a child." I asked not understanding her. "Dear, I know you are going to want more than one child, and I just want to keep your options open. Your obviously in love with the savior, and I couldn't live with myself knowing that I had done something to make you lose your opportunity of a mother." she said and I couldn't help but smile. "Thank you mother." I said kindly as I took the potion from her. I brought the bottle to my lips and poured the liquid into my mouth. The second it hit my tongue, a very familiar pain, the same pain that occurred when I had taken the infertility potion. and finally, for the first time in a long time, I was beginning to feel somewhat like the innocent teenage girl I used to be and it was the best feeling in the world. "Alright dear, now lets go find your girlfriend." mother said and we walked back up the stairs of the vault. "I'm coming Emma, I will find you, I will always find you!" I whispered to myself. Damn it Regina, why do you have to be so cliche? I sighed. "I'm not giving up on you Emma!"
