Apocalypse (The Thinky Ink-Scribers Club Entry #1)

This poem (as mentioned above) is for The Thinky Ink-Scribers Club. The prompt is 'the end of the world.' Hope you enjoy!! xx

Apocalypse.

noun. the complete destruction of the world,

as described in the biblical book of Revelation.

"the bell's ringing is supposed to usher in the Apocalypse"

So, she told herself that she should've known

it was coming

the day he opened his mouth to speak to her -

when his lips birthed a voice that resonated like

the peeling bells of a new beginning...

She told herself she should've known

it was coming

she should've known

 the apocalypse was coming.

Yet how could she foresee the destruction

of a world

of which she'd never considered as 'existing'.

She'd never thought herself to be an Earth,

with the only water of her planet

being the

valleys of tears running down her cheeks;

the only landforms of her surface

being the

misshapen ridges along her wrists.

You see, she didn't know

it was possible to demolish

something that was already

broken.

But demolish her he did.

With words like falling meteors;

he set fire to every flammable

worry and fear,

mountain and valley;

the flames only becoming hotter

and the shadows only taller,

whilst she sat silently as the sole

witness

to her own apocalypse.

The demise of her very own world.
