Lotus (로터스)

"Hey Namjoon?"

"Hm?"

"What happened to me?"

The boy paused and put down the book he was reading as he looked down at the girl whose head was in his lap on the couch. "What do you mean, darling? What happened to you today? Well, you woke up around 8 and you cleaned Sonia's cage and then ate breakfast with us and Jimin took you to therapy and then-"

"No, no not like that," Nari laughed, "I mean, what happened to me before I got here. What happened during the parts that I can't remember?" She took a deep breath, "Dr. Kang says that I should start talking with you. She said that maybe if I start talking about it then I won't feel as bad."

Namjoon gently stroked her hair, "Of course. I'm always here for you, Nari." He bent down and kissed her forehead, causing the girl to giggle as the tips of his hair tickled her nose, "I just want to ask, is therapy working for you? Is twice a week too much?"

"No, it's good!" The girl replied, "And I don't know if I would call it working, but I feel better knowing that you guys are here for me." She smiled softly, "Jimin helps a lot when I'm at therapy."

"Jimin is a really kind person," He agreed, "He cares a lot more than what he lets on. And as for what happened to you, we don't really know exactly. All we know for sure is that you were part of a human trafficking ring. I'm sorry darling, I can't tell you any more than that."

"It's alright," Nari sat up and stretched, letting out a relaxed yawn, "I guess I've just been thinking a lot about it lately. I have all these questions and I feel like I won't be okay until I know the answers."

"Well, what kind of questions are they?"

The girl shrugged, "I don't think you'd be able to answer them anyway."

"Try me." Namjoon replied, "The worst I can say is that I don't know."

"Okay," Nari nodded, "Namjoon, do you know who my parents are?"

The boy pulled her close, taking a deep breath and making sure that he chose his words carefully. The results of the paternity test came in the mail a few days ago and they were a perfect match. It was really only a matter of time before Nari knew, "Actually, I do." He answered, "Your mother reached out to us a couple weeks ago."

"Really! She did?" Nari looked up at him excitedly, "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Who is she? What do you know about her?"

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier, but your safety comes first, of course," Namjoon explained, "There are people out there that would do some screwed up things just to get our attention. But well, someone messaged all of our social media accounts-actually it's probably easier to show you instead."

He handed her the email that he pulled up on his phone, "So yeah. That's your mom."

It seemed like an eternity for for Nari to finish reading the message. She scrolled to the bottom of the page and clicked on the first picture she saw, which was the one with the cast. The girl looked up at him, "That's me." She pointed at the photo, "Just like Dr. Kang said, there's my broken arm."

"Yeah, that's you."

"I existed." Nari whispered, "I existed. Look, that's me."

Namjoon smiled, "That's you, Nari."

"This is real, right? Like she's really my mom?"

"Uh huh, we did a paternity test and everything," The boy nodded, "She's your mom, darling."

Nari hugged him tightly, "Can I meet her? Is that okay?"

"Of course." Namjoon kissed the top of her head, "I will never stop you from seeing your family."

Nari swung her legs anxiously at the kitchen table as she counted down the minutes until 3 o clock. Today is the day. The girl placed her hand on top of Suga's, who sat next to her. He held Nari's hand comfortingly and brushed a piece of hair out of her face.

"They'll be here soon." Suga reassured the nervous girl, "Namjoon texted us that he's on his way home."

"Shu-ger, what if she doesn't like me?" Nari asked and looked up at the boy, her voice cracking, "What if I'm all wrong? What if-"

"Hush, lovely," Suga placed a supportive hand on her shoulder, "She spent the last 8 years looking for you. Your mom will love you no matter what, just like we do." He pressed his forehead against hers, his most tender display of affection, "And even if she doesn't, you'll always have us."

Suddenly, the door opened and the girl shot up from her seat. Namjoon entered the house and smiled, "Nari, this is Choi Hyo."

A woman with with long dark brown hair stepped into the house behind him. Her eyes filled with tears as their gazes met. Looking into the woman's eyes sent chills down Nari's back. She had longed for this day for years and now it was finally happening. Her family came back for her, just like she was a princess locked in a tower.

"Yon," The woman whispered, "It's really you." She tightly embraced the girl, "I'm sorry, baby girl. Yon, I'm so sorry." As Hyo cried and held her close, Nari realized something.

I don't feel anything, she thought to herself, I know she's my mom and I've wanted this for so so long, but she doesn't feel like Namjoon or Suga or the other boys. I feel...nothing.

"Who's Yon?" Nari heard Suga say.

Hyo wiped her eyes and let go, "Oh, sorry, I mean Nari. When she was with me, I called her Yon. The agency must have changed her name when they sent her to the orphanage. Nari, I'm sorry I couldn't be here sooner. I never stopped looking for you I promise." She stepped aside and introduced a man that Nari hadn't seen before, "This is my husband, Choi Kyong."

"It's nice to meet you." Nari bowed politely, "This is my family, Namjoon and Yoongi."

"I'm so happy that you found eachother," Hyo smiled, "If I couldn't be there to love you, I'm glad that you found a family who could."

The five of them arranged themselves on the couch and chairs in the living room with a tray of tea and little cookies between them. Nari took a deep breath and leaned against Namjoon, her main source of comfort when she felt uncertain. He gently swung his arm around her shoulders and looked to the couple on the other end of the couch, "It's really nice to meet the both of you. Thank you for reaching out to me, I'm really glad that I could bring you all together."

"No, thank you," The woman shook her head, "You helped me find my daughter. I'll never be able to repay you for that." She turned to the shy girl beside him, "Nari, I'm sure that you have a lot of questions. Ask me anything."

Nari nodded, "Hyo, how did I break my arm?"

"Well, to be honest, I've always felt a little guilty about that," She managed a laugh, "It was kind of my fault. I was warned about something and I didn't listen, so you got hurt as punishment. I'm sorry, Yon-Sorry, I mean Nari. That's a beautiful name, by the way. Namjoon, Yoongi, did you choose it?"

"No no," Suga shook his head, "We only adopted her about six months ago, so we didn't have any say in that. It is beautiful, though. Perfect for her."

The girl blushed, "You don't have to say that, Suga."

"It's true though," Hyo agreed, "I love it. You're such a pretty girl, Nari, and I'm so proud of the person you've become after all these years. If you'll let me, I would love to watch you grow up."

"I think I'd like that," Nari nodded bashfully, "I want to get to know you too."

Kyong spoke up as he pushed his glasses up on his nose, "I know you guys are busy, being idols and all, so if you ever need someone to watch Nari while you go on tour-"

"I told you not to bring that up yet!" The woman swiftly elbowed him in the ribs as she scolded her husband, "I'm sorry," She apologized, "I don't want to rush anything, of course."

"No, it's okay," Namjoon replied, cracking a smile. He could see now where Nari got her attitude from, "It's not out of the question. We have been talking about doing a quick tour soon, only for a month or two. Nari, what do you think?"

The girl shrugged, "I wouldn't hate it."

"You could even go back to school," Kyong offered and placed a hand on his wife stomach, "Besides, we have a baby on the way. We want to spend as much time as we can with Nari before we're preoccupied with another child."

Nari's eyes widened as she noticed her mother's protruding belly. That means I'll have a sibling, she realized, I get to be a big sister.

"Well, I think that going back to school would be good for her," Suga agreed, "But we'll have to talk it over a little."

Nari nodded, "I'll have to think on that a bit, sorry. It was really nice to meet both of you."

"It's nice to meet you too, Nari." Hyo checked her watch, "Looks like our hour is almost up," She reached across the couch and gave the girl's hand a supportive squeeze before standing up, "I hope we see eachother soon, my daughter."

Namjoon thanked the couple for coming and shook their hands before they went out the door. He turned to Nari, placing a hand on her shoulder, "How do you feel, darling?"

"I don't know." She replied thoughtfully, "I thought that it would feel more like closure, I guess, but now I'm just more confused."

The boy gently pulled her into a hug, kissing the top of her head, "That makes sense. It's okay. But Nari, did you hear the name she called you by?"

"Yeah, it was Yon, wasn't it?"

Suga spoke up, "Yon, it means lotus flower. Lotuses symbolize rebirth." His voice softened, "Even in the dirtiest water, the lotus still still produces the most beautiful flower."

"Nari and Yon," The girl mumbled, "Lotus and lily, love and rebirth. That's what my names mean."

Namjoon smiled as he held her tight, "You see, my darling, you're not only made for love, you're made for healing too. Bad things might have happened to you in the past, but you will heal from them. You will bloom into a beautiful flower."

"I love you." Nari stood on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek, "And Namjoon, did you hear what Kyong said? Hyo is pregnant. I'm going to have a little brother or sister." She looked to him, "Are you ever going to have more kids? Will I get a sibling here?"

"Not for a long time, sweet lily," The boy shook his head, "I'd need to marry someone first, and I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. You're the only girl I need in my life right now."

"Good." She answered stately, "Because I don't think that I want to share yet. Sorry."

Both boys burst into laughter, making her face turn a light shade of red. Nari bashfully buried her head in Namjoon's chest and mumbled, "Hey! It's not funny!"

"Sorry, lovely," Suga managed to control his laughter, "You're just too cute."

"I am not!"

"Yes you are," Namjoon replied as he lifted her blushing face from his shirt and placed a loving kiss on her forehead, "And don't you worry, darling, you won't ever have to share my love. I promise that you'll always be the closest person to my heart."
