Iris (난초)
Nari could barely contain her excitement as she stepped off of the plane. After 10 long hours they were finally here! America! She gripped Namjoon's hand and took a deep breath.
"You excited?" The boy chuckled, "Welcome to New York, my darling."
Jin popped up behind them, "You're gonna love America so much! It's like the marketplace but wayyyyyy bigger! And the food here is amazing. Tonight we're gonna have the best sushi in the entire world."
"America is very exciting, yes," Namjoon agreed, "But it's very dangerous too. There's going to be some rules you have to follow, okay?"
"Ugh, there's always rules," Jungkook complained and opened the door to their taxi.
The older boy took a seat beside Nari in the cab, sandwiching her inbetween himself and Taehyung, "Rules are important, especially now." He met the girl's eyes, "Rule number one: Never go anywhere alone. I always want you to be with one of us or a member of our security team."
"Got it." She nodded.
"Rule number two: You'll need to talk in English as much as you can," Namjoon continued, "People here don't understand Korean, like, at all. That goes along with my don't go anywhere alone rule. I know that you and Suga have been watching Stranger Things, so maybe try watching without Korean subtitles tonight. It'll help. We're going on Good Morning America tomorrow and you'll definitely need to speak English there."
"God, Namjoon, she's only been in America for 5 minutes and you're already taking the fun out of it," Taehyung exclaimed and swung a supportive arm around the girl's shoulders, "Rule number three: Have fun! Relax dude, you're stressing too much. Take a nap, spend some time to yourself, I'll take Nari to the Rockefeller Center for ice skating and you can join us when you've calmed down a little."
Namjoon sighed, "You're probably right. I always get stressed out before big interviews." He turned to Nari, "Is that good with you?"
"Uh huh!" The girl nodded excitedly, "You should rest. Don't worry, Tae will take care of me."
The taxi stopped in front of the hotel and Namjoon opened the car door. "Is there anything else that you guys need before I go?"
"Nope! We're good." Taehyung replied, "Come join us when you feel better!"
Namjoon yawned as he entered the hotel, taking his room key and bags from Rika. Everyone else was out enjoying the city so he was guaranteed at least an hour of alone time. Good. The rest of the week was going to be so busy, it would be nice to catch a breath for a little bit.
After a short trip up the elevator, Namjoon unlocked the door to his room to see that Suga's luggage was already laid out on one of the two beds. He preferred to room with Suga out of anyone else during overseas trips because of their similarly introverted personalities. A door by the closet connected their suite to Nari's room as well. It comforted Namjoon to know that she would be close by.
The boy collapsed on the soft bed and pulled out his phone. Now that he was finally alone, there was a call that he had been dying to make.
"Hey! You're here!" A sweet female voice picked up.
"I'm here," Namjoon answered and smiled, "We just landed in New York like 10 minutes ago. I'm already exhausted."
"I bet," The woman replied sympathetically, "Did Nari do okay on the flight over?"
He nodded, "Yeah. Takeoff made her a little nervous, but other than that, she did really well. She's out ice skating with Tae now, I'm planning to join them as soon as I'm done talking to you." Namjoon's voice softened, "I had to beg for it, but we have a day off on Friday. I really want to see you, Chels. It's been forever."
"I know, I feel the same way," She said, "I'm here in Boston for spring break, I would love to show you around."
"That's perfect," The boy agreed, "It's a date. Oh, and would you mind if Nari came along for a bit? She misses you too."
Chelsea replied eagerly, "I don't mind at all! She actually texted me the other week saying that if I didn't come back soon you'd die of love deprivation, something cute like that. I love that kid so much."
"Really?" Namjoon laughed, "What did you tell her back?"
"Oh, I made her promise to love you twice as much until I see you again. That's all."
He smiled, "I guess that's why she's been a little extra clingy lately, not that I mind. It makes me so happy knowing that you two get along. I can't wait for you to meet my parents too, I know that they'll love you, and with their blessing I'll finally have the little family I always dreamed of."
Chelsea felt her face flush, "You know, my family didn't believe me when I said I was dating RM from BTS. I couldn't even show them pictures of us together because we're not allowed to have them on our phones. You'll have to meet them too sometime, Joon, and maybe then they won't think I'm crazy."
"I know, it's not ideal," Namjoon sighed, "But that's just how it has to be for now. You're my dirty little secret and I'm your imaginary celebrity boyfriend."
"Don't call me that," The woman teased, "I prefer mystery lover or top secret sweetheart. I'm a teacher, I have a reputation to uphold."
"God, you're cute." The boy sat up in his bed, "Oh, that reminds me, I was looking around earlier for a gift for you and I found-"
Chelsea interrupted gently, "Joon, you don't have to get me anything. Just knowing that I'm yours is enough for me."
"But I want to!" Namjoon insisted, "I hate that I'm so busy and that we never get to see eachother. And besides, you'll like this. It's alcohol."
"I'm listening. Go on."
He laughed, "That's what I thought. Anyway, I found this high end distillery in Manhattan so I ordered a couple bottles to take back to Korea. I'll bribe Jin to make us an expensive charcuterie board and we can have a little wine and cheese night next week. What was that play you recommended to me the other day? Bring it and we can read too. What do you think?
"I love it!" She answered immediately, "I can't wait to eat fancy cheese and read Shakespeare on your bed. By the way, are your sheets still stained with that red wine we had last time?"
Namjoon sighed, "They are. We've really gotta be more careful, babe. I got some weird looks bringing practically my entire mattress to the washing machine for that."
"It is what it is," Chelsea replied playfully, "If it's really that bad I'll just get you new ones from my parents' shop over here. They just got some with crabs on them."
"Really?"
"Yes. Do you want green or pink ones?"
"Whichever you think is cuter," He replied and smiled, "I can't wait to see you, Chels."

"Please don't let go!" Nari held Taehyung's hand as tightly as she could, with her other hand glued to the wall of the skating rink, "Tae, you have to promise that you're not going let go of me."
"Nari, I promise that I will not let go of you," The boy assured her with a laugh, "I'm not as good at skating as Namjoon, but I'm right by your side, princess. I won't leave."
Her legs wobbled precariously on the thin metal blades, "You better not. I will literally cry."
"I would never ever make you cry." Taehyung gripped her hand tighter, "Now we're gonna go forward a little, okay?" He slowly shuffled ahead, pulling the girl along as well, "See? It's not scary! Try letting go now."
Nari cautiously followed his instruction and released her grip on the wall. She stumbled forward a little, making her heart jump.
"Tae!"
"Got it, got it," He tenderly caught her in his arms, "You're okay, princess. You're okay." Taehyung gently set the girl upright again, not letting go of her hand for a second, "Just trust me, Nari. I'll keep you safe."
"I trust you, Tae," She let go of the wall, "I'm ready."
Slowly but surely, Nari got more comfortable on the ice. After an hour or two she was easily gliding alongside Taehyung as they skated around and around while music pulsed overhead. Suddenly, a familiar voice boomed from the speakers.
Taehyung's eyes lit up with excitement, "Hey! That's me! Nari, this is Fake Love! That's our song!" He sang along to the music with a big smile spreading across his face. Nari couldn't help but grin along with him.
"I see that you guys are having fun," Namjoon smoothly appeared alongside them, "Sorry that I took so long."
"It's okay!" The girl replied eagerly, "I'm happy that you're here! Look, Tae taught me to skate!"
Namjoon smiled brightly, "You're doing amazing, darling."
"Hey, do you guys see that girl over there?" Taehyung asked gesturing to a slender person with floppy lavender hair sitting at a table outside the rink, "She has a BTS sweatshirt on." Sure enough the girl in question was wearing a black hoodie with band's logo emblazoned on the front.
"I'm gonna say hi." He declared, "Nari, do you want to come too?"
Nari looked to Namjoon for permission, who shrugged, "Yeah, sure. It's good English practice. Besides, meeting fans is always fun."
The three of them pushed their way through the crowd until they stopped in front of the girl. Taehyung waved slightly, catching her attention, "Hi. I like your shirt."
"Thank you-" She looked up from her phone and then abruptly stopped as her eyes widened in surprise, "Holy shit. Tae."
The boy smiled, "That's me! I'm Tae! What's your name?"
"Iris," The girl mumbled, "My name is Iris. I'm a huge fan, I've been listening to BTS for years-" She noticed the two other people at Taehyung's side, "Namjoon and Nari too! Hi."
"Hello, Iris." Namjoon greeted her, "Thank you for being an ARMY. We love you!"
Nari could feel her face turning redder by the second. This girl reminded her so much of Ashley, with her bold makeup and short hair. Little butterflies rose in her stomach in a way she had never felt before. She loved everything about Iris, from her bright hair, to her sharp eyeliner, to the colorful beaded bracelets adorning her wrists. Her voice was sweet like candy and stuck Nari in her aura like bubblegum. She was just so cute!
"You're cute!" Nari suddenly exclaimed, meeting the other girl's light eyes.
Iris's cheeks turned rosy as well, "Thank you, Nari. You're very cute too." She turned to the rest of the boys, "Can I take a picture with all of you?"
"Of course!" Namjoon replied and posed for the selfie, "Just do us a favor and don't post it online for a couple hours, okay?"
She nodded, "Uh huh." Iris gently pulled the quiet girl a little closer, "Nari, I want you to be in here too."
"O-Okay."
Nari managed a smile as their hands briefly overlapped, filling her body with a strange sensation that made her head spin. Every second they spent together seemed to last an eternity.
"Thank you so much!" Iris smiled widely and took the picture, "It was really nice to meet you guys."
"It's nice to meet you too!" Taehyung chirped, "Are you coming to the interview tomorrow?"
She nodded, "Uh huh."
"Awesome!" Namjoon said, "If we see you in the crowd we'll be sure to say hi."
Nari shyly spoke up, "I hope we see you again soon."
The boys said their goodbyes and they parted ways, but Nari still couldn't ease her pounding heart. That girl....she was just so different...but different in a good way. A really really good way.
