Nari placed her head in her hands on top of the light blue bedsheets as she watched the rabbit wash herself with her little paws. After helping Namjoon and Taehyung set up the cage and fence in a small enclosure in her room, Nari spent almost three hours researching rabbit care. She wanted to be the best parent that she could to the new member of her unique little family. Sonia hopped over to the girl and sniffed her face, making Nari smile as the whiskers tickled her cheeks.
Unfortunately, his rare moment of peace was short lived as the girl head rapid footsteps outside of her room.
"A bunny?! You got a bunny?!!" J-Hope gushed excitedly as he slammed open the door, "You can't just call me and say you got a bunny! Lemme see! Lemme see!"
"Shh, you scared her," Nari whispered and cuddled the animal close, hoping to ease the rabbit's pounding heartbeat, "Her name is Sonia."
J-Hope knelt down to her eye level and gently stroked the bunny in the girl's arms, "Sorry, sorry." He whispered, "She's so cute, I love her." The boy cleared his throat, "Hey Nari, I know we aren't close like you are with Namjoon and Suga, but I still care about you a lot. You can talk to me about anything and I'll be there to listen. If you're sad, I'll be by your side until you feel okay again."
Nari smiled, "I know, Hobi. Thank you."
"Have I ever told you why I chose J-Hope as my stage name?" He climbed on to the bed and sat beside the girl with his legs crossed, "I chose it because I want to inspire people to have hope. I want them to know that even in their darkest hours, there's someone that believes in them. I give them hope and they give me hope, we help eachother."
J-Hope took a deep breath, "Nari, I don't know exactly what happened to you, but I just want you to know that I'm always here for you." He laughed awkwardly, "Sorry, I'm not very good with words like you are, but I care a whole lot and that will never change.
"It's okay," Nari assured him and put Sonia away in her cage, "I know what you mean." She wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug, "You are my hope, Hobi."
The boy eagerly accepted her embrace, "Come see me if you're feeling down, okay? You know, we don't even have to talk if you don't want to. We can just cuddle or read or listen to music, whatever makes you feel better. I'll help you."
"Thank you, Hobi." She whispered and left a gentle kiss on his cheek, making him blush with pride.
J-Hope didn't often show his serious and emotional side, but out of all the boys, he cared much more than what he led them to believe. His love was special in the way that it couldn't be fully expressed through words. From hugs, to kisses, to gifts, or a random picture of something pretty with the caption "this made me think of you", J-Hope showed his affection in small ways. Putting together the little pieces of his love language always made Nari smile and she knew that he'd be there for her.
"I love you so much, Nari-bun," The boy said softly before letting go, "Now how about we go downstairs and get some dinner?"
"Sounds good." Nari got up to leave but J-Hope playfully blocked the doorway.
"But first, you gotta show me your best smile." He insisted, "I won't know that you're okay until you do."
The girl good naturedly rolled her eyes and managed a small smile.
"Not good enough! I wanna see all of those teeth!"
Nari laughed and grinned widely until she could feel her cheeks burn. J-Hope slid aside and held her hand tightly.
"Much better," He said and offered a smile of his own as he gently placed a kiss on her head, "Now that's the Nari I never want to lose."

Namjoon yawned and stood up as he shut down his laptop. It was almost 3 in the morning. He tucked Nari into bed at 9:30 and so far hasn't heard a peep from her room since. This was going to be the first normal night in weeks.
Suddenly, Namjoon's phone rang loudly. He checked the contact and saw that it was Rika, their manager. The boy furrowed his brow in confusion. She never called this late.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Namjoon," The woman answered, "There's something I want to talk to you about, it concerns Nari."
"Is everything okay?"
"A few days ago we received multiple messages from someone claiming to be Nari's mother."
"Nari's mother?" Namjoon repeated, "I'm sorry if this is rude, but this is the fifth message we've gotten about people claiming to be Nari's parents since the article was released. I thought we agreed to just ignore them?"
"Well, here's the thing," Rika answered, "I think that this one might be real. When you took Nari to that therapist the other day, all of the files that were encrypted were released, including the ones that had the information on her past. Our security team read through them of course, just to make sure that you all would be as safe as possible, but here's the thing: the messages we received from the woman mentioned all of the information that was found in those files, including pictures that weren't there."
Namjoon bit his lip, "Those files were top secret. Nari was essentially in the witness protection program, there's no way that any normal person should have access to that information. Hell, we didn't even know until two days ago!"
"Exactly, that's why I think it's worth looking into. I had the security team do a full background check and they found a lot of articles with her. Apparently she's a spokesperson for several anti human trafficking agencies and with all that information, her story checks out." Rika paused, "I've forwarded you the message that she sent to all of our social media pages and district offices as well as the information that we found on her. It's in your email."
"Thank you. Goodnight."
Namjoon sat back down and reopened his laptop, letting out a sigh. Things just keep getting more and more complicated. He opened the email that Rika sent and began to read:
Dear Kim Namjoon,
I know that you probably recieve a lot of these messages, being an idol and all, but it is very important to me that read this and reply if you can. My name is Choi Hyo. I am 26 years old and I currently live in Seoul with my husband Choi Kyong. I was kidnapped from my family when I was 11 years old and a victim in the sick and twisted business of sex trafficking for 8 years until I was rescued by the Korean Women's Human Rights Agency. When I was 15 I got pregnant and had a daughter, but the leaders of the trafficking ring forced me to give her to them to be used for the people who bought their services. I tried to remain in contact as best as I could and managed to see her several times a month until she was about 2. We were then separated permanently. When I was recovered by the KWHRA the first thing I tried to do was find her, but without a birth certificate or any identification, it was extremely difficult. A few years later the sex trafficking ring known as the Sunshine Children was taken down permanently and I tried once again to find my daughter, but the government had already given all of the children new names and identities and sent them to orphanages across the world. I then worked with the media to become a spokesperson for women's rights, hoping to someday that fate would bring us together.
I don't know exactly how to say this, but I think that the child you adopted (Nari) is my daughter. I've read every article that has mentioned her, I've researched the orphanage that she came from, I have pulled together every piece of evidence that I have and I truly believe that girl is the daughter that I lost so long ago. Before we were separated, I took a few photos of her. They were never released to the press in any way. I have attached them below as well as all my contact information.
Please answer this message if you read it. I am begging you, Mr. Kim, I just want to see my baby again.
Choi Hyo
Just as the letter had said, three pictures were attached to the email. The first two were of a toddler sitting on a hardwood floor. They were a bit blurry and out of focus, but even Namjoon could admit that the child in the picture bore a striking resemblance to Nari. The last picture was of the same girl with her hands outstretched to a picture book. One detail caught his eye: the child's left arm was in a cast. Dr. Kang mentioned in Nari's files that she had a broken arm when she was young.
Namjoon felt his heart drop and he buried his head in his hands. That was it. Nari was that child. She is the daughter of Choi Hyo. There could be no other explanation, the woman knew all of the information on the Sunshine Children that had been kept under lock and key, and she even had pictures of her with the broken arm that not even Nari could remember happening.
"Hey, Joon? You okay?" J-Hope popped his head into the living room with a towel covering his sweaty hair and a can of sprite in hand, "I didn't know that you were still up."
The boy lifted his head and sighed, "Yeah, I'm fine. What are you doing this late?"
"I was just practicing some of the new choreography," He answered and took a seat next to him on the couch, "Are you sure that everything is okay?"
Namjoon shook his head, "Well, Hobi, there's been a development."
"About Nari?"
"Yeah, about Nari." He pushed the laptop towards the younger boy, "Read this and tell me what you think."
J-Hope complied and took a minute to read through the email, clicking through the pictures as well. His face changed from one of friendly concern to deep in thought and contemplative before finally looking up from the computer, "It doesn't look fake." He pointed to the photograph with the picture book, "Look at this one. She has a mole right under the knuckle of her right index finder and another one on her jawline." The boy pulled out his phone and scrolled until he found a selfie of himself and the girl. Their faces stretched into bright smiles and Nari held a fistful of dandelions, with several of them stuck in J-Hope's dark hair.
"See, look," He zoomed in on the picture, "There's the mole on her knuckle, and the other one on her face too."
Namjoon nodded, "You're right. I didn't even see that, Hobi. How did you even notice? They're so small."
"Well, I'm not very good with showing how I feel," J-Hope admitted sheepishly, "So I make sure to watch over her, you know? Like Suga, she's good at hiding when she's sad, so it's up to me to notice those little things if I want to cheer her up." His voice softened, "I just want Nari to be happy, that's all."
The other boy smiled, touched by his friend's sincere words, "Me too, Hobi. Thank you for everything you do for her, and for all of us too. I know that sometimes you don't get the appreciation you deserve." He turned back to the laptop screen, "So, what do you think we should do? Should we reach out to Hyo? Or should we talk to Nari?"
"I think we should talk to Hyo first," J-Hope answered, "We shouldn't mention it to Nari until we have proof that this is her mother. There's no use in making her worry if it turns out to be fake after all."
Namjoon nodded, "You're right." He carefully typed the number that the woman left at the bottom of her message into his phone before writing two simple sentences
Hello, this is Kim Namjoon. I got your message.
The reply was almost instantaneous.
"That was fast." He remarked
Thank you so much for contacting me, it really means so much to me. Sorry for being so forward, but you think that your child is the one?
Namjoon looked to his friend beside him, "What should I say?"
"Tell her that we'll need to do paternity test first." J-Hope advised, "We'll tell Nari that the court needs a DNA sample to update the custody papers now that all those Sunshine Children documents were released. It's probably a good idea to do that anyway."
The taller boy agreed and typed back, "Yeah, I think so too."
I'm not sure. I will send a paternity test to the address you listed and we will go from there once the results come in.
Namjoon, with J-Hope at his side, immediately dialed the closest hospital he could think of to ask for the best and fastest DNA testing they could do. He sighed. As it turns out, this was going to be just another long night.
