Chapter 9
We all decided to get a take out for the night. The pizzas and chicken were delivered along with our next door devil. The guy was drunk when he stumbled on our couch. The alcohol smell reeked all over his body.
"What's wrong with this guy?", Abby said with an exasperated sigh. Lucas went to call Connor to collect this guy. He started to mutter some incoherent words, I sat next to him trying to listen. "What are you doing?", Abby asked with a creased eyebrow. "What? I am just curious. I heard people say secrets while drunk. Don't you wanna know?", I said raising my shoulders.
She shook her head and went to her room. "Betty", the only word I recognized. Connor came with the guy Abby was talking about. "I am sorry. I can't believe he did it", Connor told with an awkward smile. "That's fine. Just make sure it doesn't happen again?", Matt said while I noticed the other guy, Dustin, was looking around the room, more like some one.
"Abby is in her room", I said with a devious smile. Dustin scratched his head in embarrassment and picked up the trouble lying on our couch. The moment the guy stepped out of the door, he started thrashing at his friends. They tried to control him, finally managing to drag him into the house.
"Well, that was tough", Lucas said wiping his sweat. I just smiled and looked at their door. Destiny was against me when I bumped into him at the elevator, alone. He didn't recognize my sorry, acting passive through the ride. College became busy as days went by and Chadd, Matt and I formed a little group within our class, ultimately becoming our new member in the group.
This was his first time lunch with us after so much of talking with others. I didn't know they were this sensitive about butting in a new one. Regardless of my worries Chadd went well with the others. That definitely felt like introducing my boyfriend to my parents. That'd be easier.
I arrived early at the library, giving myself a free time before my shift starts. My feet went straight to the mystery books, which I've looked first I came here. My favorites- The Maltese Falcon, The girl with a dragon tattoo, The woman in white- were there. I pulled out the woman in white deciding to occupy the next fifteen minutes until my shifts begun.
I was about to finish the second page when someone cleared their throat. "That's my seat", said the devil in disguise. I was quick enough to conceal my shock creasing my eyebrow, "I didn't see your name"
For a strange reason, I felt proud seeing his annoyed face. Yeah, he was clear with facial expressions. He was talking by himself, saying along how stupid I was before he budged out of the table. Bummer. I wished for more fun.
The same routine, dusting the dusted area, folding the cardboards and arranging the books by their serial. Ralph was a little roughed but didn't give a peek into his true face, if there was one. Seeing him dance when he thought no one noticed gave away that he was someone else inside.
Walking home was my time for myself. Organizing my thoughts, talking to my parents and else happened during this fifteen minutes stroll. But today, all my thoughts was the devil. It was strange seeing him there, a secluded library which people barely notice. Maybe he needed some time alone. Everyone needs one.
I pushed open my doors to the apartment. Thankfully, I didn't face Connor after the party. He made me uncomfortable. I could heaving sound , I rushed to the bathroom to find Abby politely bowing to the toilet and offering it everything within her. I put my stuff in the entrance and held her hair back. Few more heave and she slithered down next to the toilet.
"Please tell me you are not pregnant", her face warped into a disgust. "I am not pregnant. Just found fried chicken and yogurt doesn't go well", she susurrated with a sigh. I pulled her along with me, settling her on the couch.
A full cup of ginger tea was what took Abby to look a less pale. "Where's Luke?", I asked knowing Matt was probably at the library. "I don't know", speak of the devil, Luke entered when she stopped. He stopped at the entrance, studying our faces and was hit with realization. He rose his hands up in the air, "I swear I didn't cook today". We burst laughing at his panic stricken face.
"It's Dustin", she said smiling lightly when we turned towards her. "What?", Luke surpassed with shock. "I went out with him after college", she said playing with her nails. Luke made some funny confused face. "It's the neighbor, Luke", I said. The creases disappeared after he recognized, slowly a grin seeped through his lips. "Is he good?", he asked her wiggling his eyebrows.
Abby was beet-red, "Luke! We are not sleeping together", she said with a frown. "Yet", I finished her sentence, she turned towards mouth ajar. "That's my girl", Luke high fived while we continued teasing Abby with all possible things that may or may not happen with Dustin. "We just hung out twice. You guys are taking it too far", she huffed throwing the pillow in the couch.
"I was thinking about asking earlier", he said looking around the room. I looked at him, "What is it?" He sniffed around the room, "Why does the house smell like vomit?". He scrunched his nose smelling me, "And you reek vomit"
"It's Abby. She has an upset stomach". He smelled his shirt and gagged, "You should've told it earlier".
"You should've asked it earlier"
"I think I need a shower ASAP", he scurried out like a girl. I definitely needed one and a through laundry for my stinky clothes. That night we all decided to go out. Vintage Division was on the less populated area of the city. It wasn't exactly bar or a club but people were grinding into each other. It could be described crowded on a Thursday night.
We entered the bar and ordered. The dance floor was practically shaking with reckless jumping. It creeped me out of dancing with stranger, rubbing each other. I could see a guy putting his hands inside the girl's dress and the girl was either too drunk to recognize or definitely enjoying the show. Either way, it was disgusting to look at.
The bartender bought the coke and Martini to our table. I gladly took in the Coke, preparing myself for a drunk teenagers. An hour and three rounds of Seven and Seven was all it took to knock Luke out. Thankfully, Matt was able to walk to the car while Abby and I dragged the mosey Luke.
"I am never coming out with you again", I grunted lifting Luke's arm around my shoulder. "I love this place", Luke purred in my ear. If this guy wasn't gonna shut his mouth, I was gonna ditch him here with address on his forehead. The day couldn't become more difficult when we three stumbled and landed on our knees. My jeans prevented most of scrapes but my knee took a hard blow.
"Jesus Christ", Abby said wiping the blood from her knees. "That's gonna leave a mark. I am gonna kill you Luke", she said and got up while Luke was still licking the ground. With the pain shooting up my knees we both managed to carry him to his feet.
"Emily?", I turned around the shoulders to see Connor and his friends, including the devil. He was by my side in an instant, putting Luke's hand on his shoulder and settling him in the back seat along with the passed out Matt.
