Chapter 24
I could hear foot steps on the other side of the door. As the steps become prominent I was nervous for the surprise. Papi was grunting on the other side talking about how someone was making him work. "What do you want?", he asked from other side of the door.
"Cookies sir", I said with a grin. According to Papi, the word cookies had him open his doors. I held my breath when he opened the door and extended his hands without a proper look. I was barely holding in my laughter when he was tapping his foot.
I handed him the paper bag. Figured that he had no glasses and couldn't see my face close enough. "100 bucks", I said slightly changing my voice to a rough tone. To my surprise he handed over 100 bucks, for a cookie. No wonder he went bankrupt at one stage.
He was about to close the door when he commented, "You look like my granddaughter". I was full blown laughing when he finally figured me out. He ran into the house searching for his glasses and screaming my arrival.
My dad was carrying my bag next instant and mom was hugging me. I felt like that long lost child finally discovered and handed over to the yearning family.
My mom was freaking out not believing that I actually came after I promised that I wouldn't. Thankfully no water works.
"Mom, I love you. Please, calm down", I toned down to bring her nerves down. Practically shoving me with food she sat beside hugging side ways.
Dad was shooting me questions about college and friends. I happily told them about a few friends and Chadd. My eyes averted to Papi who was smirking. The old man had a smug cause he was the only one who knew about my neighbor issue and cool about it.
The familiar scent of my room hit when I landed on my bed. I passed out of exhaustion.
The door creaked open revealing my old man. I smiled while setting my clothes as he made way to my bed.
I ran into his arms realizing how much I missed home. Where I was a kid pampered and not some woman after a boy. "You know the rules Emily", Papi said and pulled out of the hug.
I played dumb scrunching my nose.
His eyes flashed disappointment. The corner of my lips lifted as I pulled out a huge pack of Oreo off my bad. The happiness and relief in his face had me fill with warmth.
He snatched the packet of my hands. "You owe me, old man", I playfully commented. "100 bucks", he butted completely interested in packet.
"If only Dad finds out"
"Uh, I play victim honey. I survived your grandma for more than 50 years. You think your dad is scary. You've never seen my wife's wrath. I even peed myself once or maybe more".
Tears were flowing from laughing too much. He loved the lady. Every memory of her was precious to him. A true gentleman and bought up my dad to be one. My dad even said stories about how grandma was the queen and treated as one. For her right was right and wrong was definitely wrong.
There was no one who could train an egoistic young Papi into a alpha male and a puppy to her. She had his heart till the last breath and she will till his. Every part of their life was love, even the arguments and fights, they never gave upon each other.
My heart swell up when I looked at Papi shoving his Oreos. How difficult would've been for him to lose the gem of his life and still trying to live for my dad. A man is deserved for love.
I quickly wiped the tears blinking rapidly and got up to unpack my bag. I hugged him controlling myself from crying.
"How's your neighbor?", he asked drinking his glass of milk that I sneaked into my room. "Connor's good but has issues around him. I just don't want to get involved". He scoffed. "Who asked about Connor? I bet for bad boys"
I rolled my eyes at him. Clearly he had a fantasy about bad boys being swag. "He's a jerk and I'll stop there"
"He must a candy to the eye". Suddenly all the images of Ryder in car, house ,college and library fill in. I must admit he was a show to the eyes and bewitching. I hummed in response.
There was no point in deny when Papi's gonna figure it out.
"I wish I could see him once". As if he would be glad to.
"Trust me you don't want to. As attractive he is, I would never go for such personality"
"I was like that too. Handsome hunk and a bad personality until I got my ring master. You know I begged for our first kiss", the pride laced in his voice. God, how much did he love her.
If my mom was freaking out Abby's parents where making us freak out. They were ecstatic. Her dad even decided to throw a party for no reason. Only she came from the college for a break. It took a few hours to convince that we indeed didn't need a party everytime we visited.
Luke's were calm and they were concerned about Abby's parents. It felt like a long time that we all sat together and talked about our lives, leaving the important things. It was good to be back home, laugh together forgetting the problems there.
My very own world with my people.
Author Notes:
I almost cried writing this chapter. Comment down if you have a love story like Papi.
Are you the princess or the queen?
