Chapter 16
Next morning the Devil and co's cars were gone. I've never been so happy and relieved. If I had to see him again, I would've burst like a mint in coke bottle. How dare he talked to me like that? If he thought I was the girl crying for everything he told, he wrong there. I might be the quiet one but I know how to slap one with sarcasm.
Perks of being with Abby.
Finally, I get to bring my friends to the aquarium. It was crowded on Sunday but the crowd didn't tire my admiration. I was showing my friends all of the species I've been seeing for a past month.
"This place is cool", Luke exclaimed snapping pictures of sharks. I nodded in agreement. Smiles and laughs filled the place with children running here and there.
Next stop, Rose's. We went inside and ordered coffee and tarts. Abby was looking behind me and saw me, repeatedly. I raised my eyebrows asking her what she was looking at. She pointed behind me. I turned to see Ryder, with the pink haired girl, looking at us intently. I gave him a blank stare and turned towards Abby shaking my head at her.
"I like this place", Matt said with a smile. " I know", I prided for bringing them here. The door opened and my eyes widened. "Don't tell me its", Abby was cut off. "Hey Emily", Connor said cheerfully.
All of the things Devil told me flashed back. Was he thinking the same?. I turned around after a smile. His face had a confusion but he started talking with the boys. I urged them eat quickly and we went out. I was out when I turned to look inside the glass walls. Ryder was still looking.
"Oh My God. Some one broke into our house. Everything is out of order. Oh my god. Oh my god. OH. MY. GOD", Luke exclaimed with a gasp pacing across the room. "Oh Shut it Luke. It was you", Abby deadpanned him. Realization hit him as he went to guy with low sugar.
"Oh, I thought someone broke into our place", he said gladly and comforted on the sofa. "As if someone would break in here", I scoffed.
"So, what's with the gym?", I asked while eating. "What's with the gym?", Luke asked with a stuffed mouth. I rose my eyebrows scrutinizing him with my eyes. Once again, Luke proved to be a fool not get I was suspicious about something. Okay, you asked for it.
"You seeing someone?", Luke sprayed the food all over the table choking. "I didn't ask anything wrong? Why are reacting like this?", I grimaced taking food from my dress. "Hey, how am I supposed to react when you ask such questions out of blue?", he said clenching in his teeth. "Thank God I didn't sit next to him", Abby said with disgust. Matt had the same expression as her.
"Just asking", I shrugged. "Why me?", he took the plates to the sink. "Well others tell me what's happening and don't slip out", I stated placing my plate above his. "There's nothing for me tell", he said with a straight face. Somehow, that felt like a challenge. Challenge feeds by curiosity. Curiosity turns me into a stalker.
Therefore, I decided to stalk Mr. Mystery in the house. I jumped up in happiness.
"You are making me anxious. Will you stop it?", I stopped pacing. "Luke is hiding something and my gut says it is interesting", I smiled at the thought. Abby lips turned into a smirk, "You think?", she asked wiggling her eyebrows. I nodded and I setup an alibi.
That night we followed Luke to the gym. We waited in the reception until he changed and hid behind the machines for cover. He wasn't doing anything out of ordinary. I asked Abby to wait when she gave me a confused look.
Three detective movies didn't help much when our cover blew 5 minutes into hiding. The girl was looking at us up and down, contorting her face. "What are you doing here?". The girl can't you be more loud. Luke saw us, "What are you doing here?", he asked while we both acted like we just apparated here. "Oh my god, it worked", Abby exclaimed. I looked at her baffled. I quickly got and smiled awkwardly. "Yeah, it did"
"You know them?", the red head girl asked Luke. I elbowed Abby to look at him. Luke was blushing and the girl was too. Christ, did I miss too much?. Abby cleared her throat and extended her hand, "Hi, my name is Abigail. I am Luke's girlfriend". We all gasped at the same time. Luke flushed red. Abby guffawed. "You should've seen those faces."
"What the hell Abby? Laura, it is not true", he fretted. "Just kidding. I am Luke's friend. We all stay together", she said and broke out into laughing again, "Still you should've seen the faces. Thanks Em, it was fun". Thanks for pointing the gun to me. "Well, I was just curious. I didn't think we will get caught. I swear, that girlfriend joke isn't mine." I mumbled as I slowly moved towards the door. "I am sorry Laura. I will catch up with you later. I have to smack two mosquitoes", he said looking at us.
What do I do? Run? I turned to see Abby waving at me from the door to follow her. When did she run there? Run. This girl was gonna get me killed one day. I sprinted off and Luke tailed. I ran through various blocks following Abby. Luke was gaining on me, blame it on his running skills. I ran through the cars, settling behind the car. I peeked through to find Luke searching outside the parking. I settled beside a car to catch my breathe.
I closed my mouth from screaming when someone tapped my shoulders. Connor crouched to my level and whispered with a gleamy eyes. "What are you doing here?". I placed my hands on the chest, "Don't creep on me like that. I thought it was Luke". He smiled scratching his head,
"I'm sorry". All things Ryder said came back. I didn't know if Connor was acting or not, if at all there was no reason to. "How long are you planning to hide like this?", he asked. "Until Luke doesn't want introduce me to death", I dusted my dress after standing.
"If you want we can go for a drive", he asked with a hesitation. Was he asking me out?. Nope, it was just a drive. I nodded my head with a smile. He rushed to open the doors for me. We crossed Luke outside. Man, he was desperate. I wished Abby wouldn't get caught but a small part of me wanted that crazy demon to get caught.
We were in the highway, "Where are we going?", I asked looking at him. He turned towards me and smiled, "Some where peaceful". First time I noticed him this close. Connor's side profile was perfect, the defined jaw lines, the twinkling eyes and small baby fat. That was when I decided.
The hell with Ryder. If that was what Connor thought about me, then I was ready for first degree burns.
