Louis and Ben got into the patrol car but from the look on Ben's face, He knew that something was wrong with him. Ben, the usually happy friendly guy that everybody loved, seemed distanced.

For at least 20 minutes Ben and Louis paroled around Greenleaf without saying one word to each other.

"Did you see the game last night? Michael Jordan probably going all the way this year" Louis asked trying to break the silence .

Ben looked over at Louis' bright youthful face and slowly shook his head. Then looked forward still driving looking a little more upset because of Louis' question.

For another 30 seconds Ben still remained silent

"Too many niggers running around the screen for me Lou, when basketball get a little more white i'll watch it"Ben said sarcastically

Louis was stunned by the words that77 Ben said.Ben loved everyone regardless of the color of their skin.This was the first time Ben ever said such a nuuegative saying. Louis give a awkward pity laugh and hoped opit was some kind of bad joke.

"Monkeys taking over everything. Before you know it one will be in the White House. I hate them Lou. I really do. I tell you who should be President, That David Duke, Lou". Ben said as he stopped at a red light.

Louis sat there without saying a word but it seemed to give Ben more fuel too keep going because Ben thought he was listening by being silent.

" That dang monkey, Dwayne touched my shoulder this morning at the locker room and ask me if I was OK , I wanted to rip his dang face off Lou"Ben continued

"What's going on Ben?".Louis asked as he finally had enough of Ben's racist frenzy.

"Well Louis my wife is screwing around with a nigger Lou. Big Ol' monkey named Jamal next door. She said I can't satisfy all her needs. What that monkey got I don't Lou? Bananas? I put a roof over her head, food on the table and she leaves me. She said she has been sleeping with him for 9 months Lou.Damn 9 months! He was at my Christmas Party Lou, He helped hang the lights up outside, his son fixed my ceiling fan Lou! ", Ben shouted in sorrow and anger.

"Ben it's OK I know it hurts...." Louis said softy.

" She told me she was pregnant Lou. A month ago we agreed to wait to tell everybody but now she says it's not mines. She says it's Jamal's baby.Lou" Ben said now fully crying cutting off Louis.

Ben pulled over to the side of the road and buried his head into the steering wheel and cried harder.

Louis tapped Ben on the shoulder and told him he would drive and they switched seats.

For nearly 20 minutes Louis tried to convince Ben to go home so he could clear his head but Ben insisted on working his full shift. Ben was so fueled by anger that he wore himself. He fell asleep for hours on the passenger seat of the car. Louis did all the traffic stops.

" Lou pull them over. Turn the lights on" Ben insisted as he woke up suddenly from his nap and thought he saw a person that looked like Jamal's 16 year old son Tyson and a blond hair white girl in a silver car.

"Turn on the lights Lou!"Ben insisted more forcefully. Louis did and both cars parked into a parking space in a empty lot

Ben immediately ran out the car while it was nearly still rolling, His husky body fell a little to the ground as he approached the car.

Louis ran the tag number while Ben walked towards the car

"ma'am are you ok?" Ben asked the young girl that was in the passenger seat.

"I am ok" the young girl responded in confusion.

"Why did you pull me over?" the young man asked

"One of your damn tail lights is out give me your ID boy "Ben responded.

"Boy?? You don't got to get rude" the young man respond while handing his ID to Ben

Ben and the young man exchanged heated words for a few minutes

Louis now realized that he needed to take over after Ben pulled the young man out the car and started calling him "boy" multiple times instead of his name. Louis jumped out the car immediately.

The passenger begged for them too calm down,but both the driver and Ben were too fueled up to stop.

The young man was so fueled with anger from the racist comments that he punched Ben in the face.

Louis tackled the young man and held him down with some help from Ben that had his knee pressing down of one of his hands.

The passenger jumped out the car when she saw how elevated things got Louis looked up at her for one second and told her to get back into the car.

Then Ben shot the young man, twice.

Louis noticed an empty look on Ben's face as he still held the gun pointed at the young man.

"Nigger shouldn't have grabbed for my gun. Right Lou?"Ben asked.

One Week Later

The atmosphere completely changed around the police department. All the white cops believed Ben's story because before that day Ben was a good man and a great cop. The black cops didn't believe Ben mainly because more and more white racist cops were exposed after the Rodney King beating.

The atmosphere around the town changed too. Nearly every day people protested about the shooting of Tommy Anderson. Some of the protest got violent.

Tommy was in the intensive care unit so he could not give his testimony. The doctor said that Tommy would live but it would be a long process. Doctors claimed that he wouldn't walk again.

Ben was on paid leave while the shooting was under investigation. Its was hard to investigate the shooting because there wasn't working cameras in the parking lot and the passenger(Amanda) could not see her boyfriend (Tommy) because she in her sit and could not see over the hood. She only reported the racist comments that lead Tommy to striking Ben but of course Ben denied it.

The only person that saw it was Louis but for that split second he took his eyes off of Tommy, he plundered if it was a 1% percent chance that he could have reached for his gun. But How Louis wondered as he remembered that Ben's knee was on top of Tommy's hand.

Louis never gave the real story and Ben never was charged. Ben transferred to out of state of South Carolina but the shooting still left a bitter taste in people of Green-leaf county mouth. Most of all Louis was the most troubled by Ben freedom.After many sleepless nights Louis decide to find Ben and do something.
