"Well I think he still works at Concord Mall in North Carolina Louis. He was fired from the Concord police department after he started staking me and Jamal. Also, I heard that he had three events of him using excessive force on African America men. Ben is a little rough looking. He started gambling and owed a lot of money to some guy named Don Carlo. I think, he beat him pretty bad." Emily (Ben's ex-wife) said to Louis as he stood at the her door steps.

"Thank you, Emily, for letting me know. I have to go see him" Louis said as he turned around to walk down the stairs

"Louis, one question before you go. Did he do it? Did Tommy reach for the gun? Emily said

Louis still looked toward the steps, not facing Emily and asked, "would that change anything Emily?"

Louis walked to his car as tears ran quickly down Emily's face.

" Make it right Lou! "Emily shouted as Louis placed his hands on the steer wheel of his car.

Louis didn't say a word; he just locked his fiery eyes with Emily's sorrowfully eyes and drove off.

The drive from Greenleaf South Carolina to Concord North Carolina  was nearly 7 hours. Louis never stopped for food, water, and even to use the bathroom. He just keeps driving fueled by the thought of Tommy. Emily's words rang in head. Louis didn't know what he was going to do but Louis knew that he was going to make it right. He just knew that had to go see him.

When Louis arrived at concord mall it was nearly closing time. The parking lot was only lite by the dim park lot lights. Louis waited patiently in his car as he watched the last few customers leave and eventually all the security guards.

Ben was the last security guard too come out and the parking lot was now empty. Louis watched as Ben locked the doors of the front entrance of the mall.

Ben wasn't the same. We walked with a heavy lump. He looked beat up. From the look of him; it's been a long two years.

Ben walked slowly to his car. Looking like he was in pain from lumping around all day. He was walking but also grabbing his leg and looked slightly downward.

Louis got out his car and walked towards Ben.  

Ben still looked downward when Louis approached him about 4 yards away.

"The mall is closed. Leave" Ben said rudely as he waved Louis away.

Ben didn't realize that the person that was a few yards away from him was Louis.

"Ben it's me Louis "said Louis

Ben quickly looked up at Louis and tried not to lump as he walked towards him.

"Hey Lou, didn't realize it was you without the uniform. You look good man. I know I look like crap huh Lou? It's been a rough couple of years. I lost my job, my wife, I got into some money problems with Don Carlo. Hopeful they throw him jail. He got a trial next week for murder. "Ben said

"It's been a rough couple of years for me too Ben. I can't sleep Ben. I keep having nightmares about that night Ben when you shoot Tommy" Louis said

"Wow you know the nigger's name? Why you worried about him? These monkeys are ruining America. That future crack dealer, got what was coming to him. I sleep well every night Lou. I won't lose sleep for nigger no day." Ben said sarcastically.

Louis was stunned from the lack of remorse Ben showed How can he be happy Louis thought? How could Ben live with himself? How could this man sleep?

" I meant too thank you Lou for backing my story up Lou. Us southern white boys gotta have each other's back when it comes too shooting monkeys. Everybody always wanna freak out Lou" Ben continued after seeing that Louis didn't respond

Louis now fueled with anger wanted too to reach for gun and shoot him like he did Tommy, but he didn't. He said, "Ben what happened to you? Ben this isn't you? I know you Ben"

"This is me Lou. That nigger Tommy, that nigger Jamal, and every other nigger are all the same. They wanna take what we got and destroy society. My eyes are opened Lou. I talked to David Duke the other day. His ideas will blow your mind Lou. I'll let you look at some of the papers he mailed me Lou" Ben said

"Ben that wasn't right. You had no right to shoot him! We stood for the law Ben! I don't want to see nothing that you got! I am here to take you in." Louis shouted

" Take me in? You were my partner. You actually care about these niggers out here?" Ben said sadness and confession.

"Yeah I do Ben and it's time for you pay for your crime Ben" Louis said as he pulled his gun out and pointed the gun at Ben's chest.

" Yeah OK Lou. So, you're going to shoot me?" Ben said as smiled and turned lumping towards his car

As Ben turned Louis smacked him with the base of gun. Knocking him out.

Louis still fueled by anger; looked over Ben with disgust and dragged him into his car. 

Louis never took him to the police department.
