Chapter Fifteen
Long chapter!
Crys' POV
As I rinse off the strawberry body wash I'd just scrubbed myself in, my nerves officially reach an all time high.
Tonight is the night Harv and I go on our first date.
To say I'm a bundle of nerves is an understatement, but I'm also pretty excited to find out what we're doing.
But I can't help fear that if this doesn't work out, I'll possibly lose my best friend too.
Harv is the one person I feel like I can bare my soul to, without the fear of being judged for it. He makes me laugh more then I have in years and even in total silence, I feel safe with him.
He feels like home.
And I can't help the fear that rises within me at the possibility of losing all that.
Of losing him.
A banging on the bathroom door snaps me from my runaway thoughts.
"Are you nearly done in there?!" Scarlet shouts from the other side of the door.
I decided to get ready at her place because she said it'd be better if he was picking me up over simply knocking on the bedroom door next to his own.
Plus, I like having her with me while I get ready. A second opinion is always helpful.
"Yeah! Getting out now!" I yell back as I turn the water off.
Stepping out of the shower, I quickly dry myself off before wrapping a warm towel around me.
When I walk into Scarlet's room, I see what must be every ounce of make-up she owns as well as shoes and perhaps ten dresses thrown on her bed.
"Okay, so I grabbed out my faves but this one I think will look the best." Scarlet starts telling me, as she picks up a black halter dress that goes to just above my knees.
"What do you think, huh?" She asks excitedly.
Honestly, it looks beautiful and more daring than I'd normally wear. My own insecurities threaten to spill out of my mouth, to turn the dress down. Before I can, she thrusts it into my hands.
"Don't overthink it. At least try it on, please?" She pouts at me.
"Ugh. Fine, but it'll look silly on me, Scar." I tell her reluctantly.
"Oh shut up. It'll look sexy as hell." She yells as I go into the bathroom again, after grabbing underwear.
After pulling my panties on, I slide the soft black fabric of the dress over my head. Once it's on, I adjust it so it's sitting just how it should. To my relief, the chest area has a built in bra to give support, since apparently, the back doesn't allow you to wear one.
I can feel my insecurities bubbling at the surface again when I look at the outfit in the bathroom mirror.
It shows loads of cleavage and the back is basically strips of black fabric. Framing my chest were diamonds that sparkled in the lights.
Definitely a sexy dress, but I felt like this wasn't really appropriate.
Maybe I should change into jeans...
Walking out to tell her just that, I'm stopped by her gasp and smile.
"That looks amazing!" She gushes at me before walking around to make sure it's sitting right.
"I don't think I should wear this, Scar. I feel really exposed..." I trail off.
"Crys. You look beautiful. I know you don't see it, but believe me when I say, you are a gorgeous woman and you look it." She tells me seriously before pulling me into a firm hug. "Trust me. Please." She whispers into the hug.
"Fuck it." I chuckle before nodding at her.
"Good." She laughs before pulling my to her vanity, that has every inch covered in makeup.
"I don't want to pile it on Scar." I tell her, probably looking terrified.
"I know. Trust me Crys." She smiles at worried face.
Nodding my okay, Scarlet gets started on my makeup. I'm not allowed to sneak a peek, so when she isn't working on my mouth, we're talking to calm my worried brain.
Once done, she grabs a pair of low heel black shoes for me to slip on and brushes my hair out. She decided to leave in down in it's natural loose wavy state.
"There! All done!" She claps once as she stands to allow me to turn around.
To say I was blown away by my finished look, was an understatement. She'd framed my blue eyes in black eyeliner and mascara, with dark eyeshadow adding to the effect. My lips simply had a slightly darker shade of my natural lip colour on them and the heels were low enough where I wouldn't fall on my face.
(I picture this dress but with less cleavage exposed lol.)
"Holy cow... Scar, I look... I look..." I stumbled my words.
"You look amazing." She beamed at me.
"Yeah..." I breath out, surprising myself.
But I did look amazing, I actually saw myself as beautiful in that moment. I rarely felt ugly since moving here, but attractive wasn't something I could call myself either. This was such a foreign feeling to me.
A knock at the door broke me from my thoughts and before I could think, Scarlet had run over with a big grin on her face. She pulled the door back, welcoming Harv in before stepping aside.
He was looking divine. If I had to pick from the long list of words racing through my head, that was the closest I could get to express him right now.
His soft brown hair was styled neatly. His face was still sporting his ever present beard, but he had run the trimmer over it making it neat. His muscular frame was barely hidden from view, wearing a navy blue dress shirt and black jeans.
I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my lips when I spotted his favourite black converse. Though I slowed it to a smile when I saw the stunned face he was sporting.
"Are you okay, Harv?" Scarlet cheekily nudged him, snapping him back to nearly.
"Yeah." He huskily confirmed before clearing his throat. "You look exquisite, Crys." He breathed out.
I couldn't have stopped the blush creeping up my face if I tried.
"You're looking rather handsome yourself." I say back with a small smile.
"Shall we?" He says while offering me his hand and bowing slightly, with a cheeky smile on his face.
Taking it, he entwines our fingers with a small squeeze. We say a quick goodbye to Scarlet, who tells us "get lost already," before he walks us towards his Dodge truck.
After opening my door for me, we start our drive to who knows where. I want to enjoy the surprise, but I'm so nervous and excited that I'm too curious not to ask.
"So... where are we going?" I say peering at him with a wide smile.
"Nice try. I was pre-warned you'd likely try to get details out of me." He chuckles as my smile falls.
"Can I have a hint?" I try.
"Hmm..." He pretends to ponder while still driving. "Nope!" He eventually answers with a smile.
I can't help the "hmph" I let out as I relax into my seat. He's enjoying this way too much, if his constant chuckles are anything to go off.
Feeling the truck come to a stop, I see we're at the park and I can't help the confusion that crossed my face as to why we drove for 15 minutes first.
"It would be too easy if I just took us here, now wouldn't it?" He smiles at me before offering his hand again.
Walking through the lamp lit park, I can't help enjoy the silence around us as we stroll the familiar path. I stay in that state until we get closer to the usual spot we sit at.
Gasping at what greets me, I turn to look back at Harv shocked then back to what I can only assume is our date.
There's an outdoor cinema set up and our usual spot looks to have a picnic set up on it. There are a few other couples further in front but there was enough distance that you wouldn't pay them attention.
"Come on." Harv offered, breaking my thoughts.
Walking to where we usually sit, I see it isn't just a picnic. He has a blanket set down with many pillows and cushions on one end that I just want to dive in. A typical picnic basket sits to the side as well as a box of pizza.
It's simple but bloody brilliant.
Honestly, I'd have probably felt really out of place in the middle of a crowded restaurant, especially with how I am dressed.
"If you don't like it, we can go out to eat instead. I booked a table in case this wasn't...-" He starts rambling.
I stop him with a quick peck, apparently taking him by surprise.
"This is amazing, Harv. What are we seeing?" I smile at him before I sit on the blanket with my ankles crossed in front of me.
"Well, actually... It's, uhh, True Romance..." he mutters nervously.
"Really?!" I practically squeal, drawing a couple of stares before I throw my arms around his neck and squeeze, possibly too hard.
"Yeah. I was hoping you'd like it." He smiles down at me as he joins me on the blanket.
"How did you do all this?" I ask shocked.
"Don't give me too much credit. They have the cinema showing sometimes and I might have bribed the organiser to show this movie. But the set up we're on is actually with the help of the twins. I'd never be able to carry so many blankets and pillows alone." He chuckles.
"Bribery huh? How scandalous!" I smile up at him.
"So, my lady. We have pizza for dinner as well as a picnic basket with all your faves such as, milk bottles, M&Ms and sarsaparilla." He beams before opening the pizza box.
"Wow. Thank you, Harv." I tell him genuinely.
"I'd love to rent out a five star restaurant or cinema, but sadly I'm not that well off. But I thought this is something you'd enjoy and hopefully has never happened before?" He says the last part almost like a question.
"This is amazing, Harv! I love it!" I smile with excitement at seeing this as a date movie.
The movie starts not long after we finish eating our pizza and I pull open the picnic basket seeing just how much of my favourite snacks he did grab.
During the movie, we laid back onto the throne of soft pillows making me never want to leave. Harv pulls a blanket out from under a pillow and covers us so we don't freeze while watching the brilliant movie. Honestly, I love anything that Quentin Tarantino directs, so he was always winning with this.
At some point, we gravitate to each other as I snuggle into his chest and he wraps an arm around me while stroking my hair gently.
Another reason I'm happy I left it alone.
When the movie finishes, the few other couples packed up their own things and left, but we just stayed there enjoying the presence of one another.
Harv grabs his phone from his pocket and I think he's about to tell us it's late and time to go home. But before I can move an inch, he's put the phone back away and moments later the last few lights shut off.
We're left in the natural light of night, I can see the lamp lights still going in the distance of the park though.
Harv untangles himself from me before standing from his sitting position, holding a hand out to me with a nervous smile.
Taking it, I'm graciously pulled into his firm chest. He places my hands on his shoulders while resting his on my hips and pulls me closer to him. I can't stop the blush that's likely covering my face at the moment.
"You're so beautiful." He whispers to me, adding to my blush.
Suddenly light music fills the air around us and Harv starts to gently sway us side to side. We rock in smooth motions that would lull me to sleep if I wasn't so filled with joy at the action.
I'm not sure how long we sway together before Harv stops and looks at me with some much happiness in his eyes. He leans closer to me so naturally that I don't even notice I'm doing the same thing. His soft warm hand caresses my cheek while we are still gazing into each other's eyes.
The distance between us shrinks so much that I'm not sure who closes it, but all I know is his soft lips connect with mine the moment our eyes closed.
We share a couple of soft pecks before he pulls back slightly, staring into my soul with a gentle smile on his face.
"So, how'd I do on our date?" He asks with that normal Harv smirk.
"This was beyond words, I couldn't have imagined a date as fun and good as this." I tell him truthfully.
"Good. Well, with that said. Crys, would you like to be my girlfriend?"
To say I'm shocked is an understatement.
I love spending time with him, we're clearly attracted to each other, plus it's been months since our last relationships ended. And even now, my mind isn't thinking of anyone else but us.
I'd love nothing more than to be dating this incredible person, who has a very nervous look on his face.
Oh right. Haven't actually answered him...
"Yes!" I beam up at him.
He lets out a breath before his smile stretches from ear to ear.
"Really?!" He asks with the smile not fading one bit.
I simply nod at him before his lips reconnect with mine and I get lost in their gentle caress. The joy, passion and lust all get mixed into the kiss we're sharing as his hand rests on my lower back and my fingers lightly tug his hair.
A moment later, I feel a firm wet tongue glide across my lower lip, gently asking permission, which I gladly allow. I feel myself getting warmer in his embrace, the need for more contact growing.
Well, I am an adult. I have needs and desires too.
Harv pulls back slowly, leaning his forehead against mine with his eyes still shut.
"Please tell me I haven't dreamt all of this." He whispers so quietly I almost miss it.
"You haven't dreamt this, Harv." I smile at him as he finally opens his eyes.
"Thank goodness." He quickly says before giving me another gentle kiss.
We continue to stay there for another half an hour while talking about random things that have happened in our day or the twins giving Harv a hard time about the date.
I felt myself slowly drifting to sleep before Harv suddenly picked me up bridal style and walked us back to his truck.
Feeling him sit me on the comfortable bench seat, he gently buckled me in before he quickly goes around to his own seat and we head back to our home.
As we reach our apartment, Harv guides me through to my bedroom before planting a tender kiss on the back of my hand.
"Goodnight Crys." He smiles down at me warmly.
"Goodnight Harv." I say back before hugging him close to me. "Thank you for the best date ever." I tell him truthfully before sharing a quick final kiss to end our dreamy date together.
As I close my bedroom door, I can't help lean against it with a smile so big my cheeks hurt.
Best first date ever!

Holy cow! Over 2,500 words!
So, what did you think?
I'm not good at writing date scenes, as a parent my date nights are seeing a movie we can't take the kids to. LOL.
What would be your dream date?
