Chapter 5
Patrick locked the door to the arcade before turning back to Pete. They started down the street. Pete still had the panda clenched to his side with one arm. Patrick was shining a smile at him.
"You're really enjoying that bear aren't you?" Pete nodded excitedly.
"Hell yeah I am!" They both laughed at Pete's enthusiasm. Their walk wasn't silent for long. "Thanks for tonight. I had a lot of fun."
"Me too."
"You were right, I don't have many nights out like this. Or any at all really." Pete felt Patrick's hand brush against his own.
"Well I'm glad I could give you this night. Maybe we could do this again?"
"Definitely," Pete said quickly. He buried his face in the back of the panda's head to hide a growing blush. Pete smiled when he felt Patrick's fingers lace through his own. They continued the rest of the way to Pete's place hand in hand.
When they made it to Pete's front door, they stood facing each other. Their eyes locked would lock for a moment before one would turn away with a smile on their lips. They caught each other occasionally glancing at the other's lips.
"Could I possibly get a goodnight kiss?" Patrick asked shyly as he stared at his shoes. Pete nodded and closed the space between them. They locked eyes as they leaned in close to each other. Pete felt Patrick's breath against his face as his eyes flutter closed.
When their lips met, everything in Pete stopped, his breathing, his heart, his mind. Patrick still had the taste of pizza on his lips. He couldn't help but smile into the kiss. When they pulled away, Pete felt Patrick letting out a deep sigh.
"Holy smokes," Patrick whispered into his sigh. Pete chuckled quietly. They opened their eyes, smiled glue onto their faces.
"Definitely looking forward to that second date." Patrick nodded in agreement. "Night Pattycakes."
"Night Peter panda." Pete blushed at the name as Patrick waved goodbye. When Patrick left, Pete went inside. He slouched against his closed door and sighed contently.
"So, how did it go?" He looked over at Brendon on the couch. he was laying on his stomach, head propped on his arm and legs swinging back and forth in the air.
"Shut up. You know how it went. You were there."
"I know, but I want you to tell me how you felt about it." Pete went over to the couch, pushing Brendon's feet out of the way as he sat down.
"I really enjoyed it," Pete answered and held his bear tightly. Brendon smirked.
"So tell me Petey, what is it about this boy that is making you this way?" Pete gave all his attention to his fingers as they messed with his panda's ear.
"I don't know. He's just sweet and shy and really cute. When we kissed, it felt, I don't know... right," he shrugged. Brendon was leaning back on the couch, still smirking at Pete.
"So this is the boy that's finally getting the infamous player, Pete Wentz, to commit." The smile faded from Pete's face. He put the panda beside the couch and ran a hand through his hair.
"I wouldn't say that. It was just one date. It could easily be another temporary thing."
"Yeah right," Brendon laughed. "I've never seen you like this before. This is serious." Pete's hands clenched.
"No it's not," he spoke through gritted teeth. Brendon was still shining that annoying smirk.
"You're falling in love," Brendon said teasingly. Pete stood up and hovered over Brendon not really sure what he was planning on doing.
"Stop it both of you." Pete and Brendon turned their heads to see Ryan walking into the room.
"You're back," Brendon said happily as he jumped up and went to embrace him.
"Back? Where were you?" Pete questioned. Now that he thought of it, he hadn't seen Ryan since they left the arcade. Ryan leaned his head on Brendon's chest with his eyes closed as arms wrapped around him. He took a deep breath before looking over at Pete, staying in his position.
"How did the date go?" Ryan asked in a soft voice.
"We kissed," Pete stated plainly with a shrug.
"Is there going to be a second date?" Pete shrugged again. "Well if you enjoyed yourself, I don't see why not." Pete looked at Brendon as the boy kissed the top of Ryan's head.
"Cause it's nothing serious. Don't see why we should get worked up about it. I'm not gonna ask the boy to marry me or anything," Pete grunted.
"I never said you were. You guys aren't even boyfriends, so I don't expect you to commit the rest of your life to this man." Pete felt his body relax. Ryan always knew exactly what to say. There was no pressure when he spoke.
Pete could see why Ryan was his angel and Brendon was his devil. Brendon guided Ryan to the couch slowly. Brendon held Ryan close to his chest when they laid down. Pete saw one of Brendon's black wings wrap around Ryan's body.
Pete knew Brendon did this to help comfort Ryan when he was really upset. He wanted to ask what was wrong and how he could help, but he knew they wouldn't tell him. As much as they got on his nerves, he did care about the two.
"I'll text Patrick about the second date," Pete said, hoping it'd cheer Ryan up. He heard a weak 'okay' in response. He walked over to the couch.
Ryan had his eyes closed and face pressed against Brendon's chest. One hand was gripping Brendon's shirt tightly. He noticed Ryan's body shaking slightly. Brendon had his eyes glued on his boy and ran his fingers through his brown hair for added comfort.
"Goodnight,"Pete spoke softly. Brendon looked up at him and nodded before turning his attention back to Ryan. Pete frowned as he walked back to his room. He didn't like the scared look he saw written all over Brendon's face. Whatever was going on between them, what every they were hiding, it wasn't getting any better.
He laid in his bed and brought his phone out. He opened his conversation with Patrick. A part of him was resenting himself for doing this, the other part was excited to hang out with the boy again. His fingers hovered over the keyboard as he decided what to say.
Hey Pattycakes
Hey Panda!
By any chance are you busy Friday?
Not that I know of
Pete chewed his lip nervously as he sent his next text.
Would you like to go out with me?
Of course I would! Where were you thinking about going?
His mind started racing. It would've probably been smart to think of place before asking him. His mind went blank.
It's a surprise
Haha alright I can't wait! I gotta go to sleep Pete early day tomorrow
Alright Pat goodnight sleep well
You too panda :)
Pete laid his phone down and stared at the ceiling. His mind started replaying what Brendon and Ryan had told him. What if this turns into something serious? Brendon was teasing, but what if he wasn't? And Ryan was completely calm about everything. What if he's just trying to play it cool and he knows what's going on.
Pete rubbed his hands down his face. He didn't like this new thing going on with Patrick. It was starting to worry him. He wanted to listen to Brendon's old suggestions and go back to one night stands. Patrick didn't deserve that though and Pete wanted to be able to give him what he deserved.
