Two: Tonight's Special
"HARVEY!"
I could feel Eric's burning eyes on me, but mine were glued on Ally as she walked away. For some odd reason, she consumed my attention. I couldn't stop it even if I wanted to. And I didn't think I wanted to. There was something about her that caught me off guard.
She was a beauty. A rare one. Although she stood short, probably a foot or so shorter than me, she was blessed with a hourglass figure. As she turned her back to us and walked towards the server's station, my eyes naturally lingered on her shapely rear end. My mouth fell open.
"Harvey!" Eric attempted to get my attention again, his voice a little louder the the first one.
I heard him loud and clear. I just chose to ignore him. Couldn't he figure out that I was busy?
She disappeared from my view as soon as she entered the server's station and I was finally relieved from her pull.
"Why do you sound like a bitch saying my name like that?" I knew he purposely said my name out loud for her to hear.
He bursted out in laughter. He turned his head towards the direction she disappeared to. When he turned back to look at me, a villainous smirk painted his irritating face.
This was going to be a long night.
Before I could give him anymore advantages, I quickly covered my face with the menu, pretending to read through it before he had the chance to say something smart.
"I was asking what you were getting."
"Oh. I don't know. What's their special?"
I tried to avoid his suspicious stare. He knew me too well. If he noticed how much I was staring at her, he would not, and I repeat, he would not shut up about it.
"Hmm," he scanned the menu again.
"I think the special for tonight is called Ally. But sorry man, she's not on the menu. Maybe you can order it to go for a take-home tonight." Eric was laughing at this point.
"Shut your mouth, smartass."
I tried to keep a straight face to show my annoyance. But it just made him laugh harder. I caved in and laughed at his stupidity.
He knew me too well. Usually, that was a good thing. But tonight, his smart-mouth made me nervous.
When I noticed a petite figure walking towards our table, I straightened myself as much as possible.
I'm so glad I got that haircut earlier today.
"Here is your drink," she said placing the bottle of sake and two ceramic cups on the table.
"Are you ready to order?" She inquired while holding the notepad in her right hand and pen with the other.
Either she needed new glasses or she was nervous to be around us by the way she held that notepad so close to her face as if that little thing could hide her from me.
I smiled at that thought.
Her big brown eyes behind her glasses darted into mine. It widened as she noticed my fixated attention and smile towards her. She quickly looked away, staring at the notepad in front of her.
She's nervous. I can tell. Her hands are slightly shaking. Am I making her nervous?
The thought of it made me grin from ear to ear.
I still couldn't look away even if I wanted to. She was standing inches away from me. I could smell the scent of fresh wildflower with a hint of citrus coming from her. I had to sum up all my will power to restrain myself from inhaling as much of her as possible.
What the hell is wrong with me. I'm acting like a dog.
"Yep! I think we're ready to order," Eric said, saving her from me.
"Ladies first," he nodded at me with a smirk.
I scorned and shook my head in response.
"You're an idiot."
Eric laughed.
To my surprise, she smiled. Not the formal, mandatory fake smile. This was a genuine smile. A smile that crinkled her big brown eyes.
"I'll have tonight's special," I ordered as I kept my eyes fixated on hers. She looked at me, unaware that my desire to fulfill my appetite was more than what their menu offered.
The cool sensation on my arm had forced me to look away from Ally. Spots of wetness scattered on me and the table.
I looked ahead and saw Eric choking on the water he was drinking. With concern, Ally quickly handed him his napkin, while I, on the other hand, had a victorious grin on my face.
