HARVEY
My eyes followed as she walked away from our table towards the server's station. I had a perfect view of her petite, yet curvy body as she leaned against the wooden counter, almost too high for her comfort. What a damn cutie.
I wonder if she noticed how much I've been staring at her.
I hope she did.
She caught my attention the moment I saw her carrying the bag of food towards the server's station. Her back was mostly facing me at that time, but I noticed her right away. When I saw her smile at her co-worker, even though it was such a limited view with the strands of her hair covering her face, I was automatically drawn to her. She had that magnetic force on me and I couldn't pull away.
I surveyed her every move. I watched as she tapped her fingers on the computer screen until Eric interrupted my private session.
"Can you be any more obvious?" Eric pointed out, laughing at my obscurity
"What do you mean? I'm just observing," I explained as I directed my attention back to him. I don't even know why I'm denying anything to him. He already busted me. There was no keeping secret from this guy.
"Observing my ass. You're eyeing her like a hawk." Eric shook his head. "She is pretty though. I'll give you that." He took a shot of the sake before continuing on.
"Sorry to break the news to you brother, but I think she's more interested in me," Eric teased. He animatedly raised his eyebrows with a wide grin across his face. "You saw how concerned she was when you almost killed me?"
"What the fuck are you talking about? It's not my fault you forgot how to drink water, idiot." I laughed at his idiocracy
"You know damn well what you did. You with your 'tonight's special' bullshit." Eric mocked me.
Idiot should be his legal name because he acted like one, intentionally. But in reality, he was the smartest and most creative person I knew. We'd been friends since freshman in high school when I was still at my lowest, physique wise. I was teased about my sloppy figure for the first couple of weeks in high school. Then, Eric came to the rescue. He wasn't the most built guy in school, but he was athletic and cocky enough to protect me. It was unexpected, but we hit it off so well that he convinced me to join the football team. In return, I taught him music. He was a quick learner, so it was easy for me to teach him how to play the bass and guitar. He had a good voice too. We alternated between leading and second voicing, but I mostly did the lead singing. We were inseparable. Even the girls we messed around with were always attached at the hip like we were.
Then, I joined the Marine and had to leave Chicago. It was the only time we ever separated since the day we met. There was never a question about joining the Marine Corps. My grandfather was a Marine. My father was a Marine. I had to be one. My younger brother, Matt, also joined the service. It ran in our blood. I was damn proud of that.
Semper Fi.
