Chapter 19

The dinner proceeded quite smoothly after that, except for Rain, who remained silent all the time, fearing to say something more inappropriate. The siblings of the major family and their partners eventually left the mansion. Venice was about to take Rain back home while Vegas and Pete were in the sitting room right outside their bedroom.

"P' Payu... I... I want to apologize to your father..."

"I'm not sure it is a good idea. You can do that tomorrow. It is still an open wound and I can't tell you how he will react if you say the wrong thing again." Venice replied.

Rain didn't say anything at first, but when they reached the entrance door, he tried again and this time Venice gave up and agreed to take him to his fathers. They walked up the stairwell and reached the door of the sitting room.

"I'll stay outside, dad may think that I forced you if he sees that I enter with you. Don't worry, if the situation escalates I will intervene immediately and take you home right away." Venice said.

Rain nodded and walked to the door, he hesitated for a while and managed to overhear the whole conversation between Pete and Vegas, so that he could easily respond to what hurt Pete the most.

"Can you believe it, Vegas? Who is Venice's real dad... Am I not real enough? Didn't I do anything possible for my son? I devoted my soul and heart to him and that asshole comes in my house and dares to pose a question like that!" Pete shouted.

"Calm down, it was just a slip of tongue. He was embarrassed and he didn't know what to say. Imagine you at dinner with so many people that you don't know, nobody would like to end up in such a situation" Vegas responded calmly.

"What will he do next time? Huh? Call me mom? I'll slap him in the face if he dares..."

"Don't exaggerate. Now, calm down and sit" Vegas added.

Pete sank in the armchair and looked away with a sad expression.

"It... it is just that no matter what I do, it looks like there will be always be someone out there ready to say that I'm nothing to Venice. I raised him but I'm sure that he would dare to say that even a babysitter could do that and nobody would call them a parent..." Pete remarked.

"He was just curious and I'm sure that he wasn't judgmental at all. Besides, it isn't like you're talking with someone like Kim, who carefully choses his words to get the desired effect, he just posed a question without thinking too much about it" Vegas said.

"You're right... I'm just making a fuss over nothing, I... I will probably move on by tomorrow." Pete added before hearing someone knocking on the door. He stood up and said that they could enter, then he noticed that it was Rain.

"Khun Pete, Khun Vegas... I came to apologize" Rain stuttered.

Pete looked at him with the most snobbish expression he could pull out, then he told him:

"I'm listening, Rain"

"I'm sorry..."

"Alright, this is too much. Pete, you're an adult, you can't bully a kid, this is ridiculous" Vegas remarked.

"I'm the hurt one here! I don't care what he meant, I got hurt! Clear? It is up to me to accept his apology or not!" Pete exclaimed like he was about to cry or to kill someone.

"I came here to apologize just out of manners ok? If you don't want to accept it then do as you wish..." Rain dared to say. Pete sighed, he was about to give up, however, Rain interpreted it as the beginning of a new rant and decided to continue with the new strategy.

"I'm not scared of you, I just need Payu, not you..."

"and you think that Venice will still love someone who treats his father like that?!" Pete shouted. It was at that moment Payu walked inside the room to make sure that the argument couldn't go worse than that.

"Why should he care? He won't do everything you tell him! He isn't a child anymore!" Rain hissed back.

Pete couldn't stand it anymore, he walked to Rain and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. Vegas shouted his partner's name to stop him before he could hurt Venice's boyfriend. Unexpectedly though, Pete didn't hit him nor anything, he just glared at him, waiting for him to say something more.

"You're being too controlling on something that doesn't even belong to you anyway" Rain continued. Pete was a little confused by that statement and let him go, he turned to Vegas for a moment and that was the time Rain hit again:

"He's not even your son to begin with!" Rain shouted out of anger. His eyes widened immediately as he realized how cruel that sentence was compared to what was actually happening. He covered his mouth with his hands, then he almost shivered, fearing that Pete could really beat him up after that.

"What did you say?"

"I... I said..."

"Repeat it..." Pete said with a totally neutral tone.

Rain gulped before saying that again: "I said that he isn't your son..." he was shivering after murmuring those words.

"Vegas... I'm going to sleep, I'm tired... good night" Pete said with a slightly trembling voice, he opened the door of the bedroom, walked in and immediately closed it behind himself. He leant his back on the door and started crying desperately.

"Khun Pete!" Rain said as he walked to that door, he couldn't believe that he actually said that. He couldn't reach the door though, since Vegas went there before him and pushed Rain away.

"Venice, take him home..."

"But Khun Vegas, I'm s-" Rain started

"I don't care that you're sorry! You should think first before talking! Go away! Now!" Vegas shouted.

Even Payu was mad at Rain that moment, he grabbed his arm and took him to the car.

"P' Payu..."

"Rain, I don't feel like talking ok?" Payu said with a cold tone, Rain got into the car and sobbed but Venice tried to ignore it.
