With Me| Shareef O'Neal

Y/N watched Shareef sleep in silence. Realizing that it was later than she expected she silently cursed under her breath. Lifting the heavy duvet off her naked body, Y/N searched for her skimpy clothes.

The cold wood floor creaked making Y/N stop in her tracks. Shareef's tatted chest rose and fell comfortably. Sighing she made her way out of his condo. Her friend, Solana, waited outside looking bummy.

"This is the last time I'm picking you up from yo' late-night booty calls. Especially from Reef's house."

Y/N sucked her teeth, "Man what?"

Pulling off Solan turned the radio off, "You know that boy is in love with you. Why you keep doing that to him?"

As if he could hear the conversation Y/N's phone lit up. His contact name appeared on her iPhone screen. Ignoring the call she put her phone in her black clutch bag. Solana shook her head in disbelief.

"You need to stop playing with that boy's heart." Solana opened the front door to their apartment.

Y/N rolled her eyes and went to her room to undress. Her phone kept going off flashing lights in the darkroom. Her eyes grew heavy desiring nothing but to fall asleep. Ignoring the calls and text messages Y/N fell asleep the thoughts of Shareef floating away.

The next morning Y/N woke up with leftover messages from Shareef. Getting ready for her job she rushed to the bathroom. Picking up her car keys she let Solana know she was leaving for work.

"Almost late again, Y/N" Her nagging manager was waiting for her at the door.

"Yes, I know. I made it didn't I?" Y/N rolled her eyes and went to the back to clock in.

Her little cashier job helped Y/N pay for some of her tuition. She placed her name tag on and went to the registers. At nine o'clock in the morning, the store was fairly empty. She leaned against the register waiting for some type of human interaction.

Random pop songs played over the intercom. The front doorbell chimed making Y/N turn her head towards the door. Her heart skipped a beat noticing Shareef's tall frame. He pushed his glasses on his face searching for Y/N's pretty face. Y/N knew at that moment that Solana had told Shareef where'd she had been.

His lanky figure created long shadows on the tile floor blocking Y/N from any view of lighting. He spoke with sheer confidence, "Hey."

Y/N finally looked up at him feeling guilt in her stomach, "Good morning."

"You kinda stormed off last night. I had to make sure you were okay."

Nodding her head she replied making sure her manager wasn't near, "I had to work so I just left."

Noticing her body tense he backed off, "Can I see you when you're done?"

Her manager could be seen watching from afar. Knowing she had to get him to buy something or leave, Y/N agreed. Tilting her head and smiling at him to show her interest she barked a quick yes.

"Yeah. My shift is over at five."

"So dinner at Moe's?" He asked.

Y/N pulled into the parking lot starving. Solana was on the phone making sure Y/N knew how wrong she was.

"You just told me yesterday that he was just a fuck buddy. Now you're going to dinner with him. It must really be hot girl fall."

Y/N applied some lipgloss to her lips while looking in the car mirror, "He offered me dinner. That's free food bitch."

"He probably finna ask you about your feelings. You need to tell him the truth. That boy is too whipped to notice he's being played." Solana's frustrations with Y/N were beginning to show.

"Look I promise I'll tell him the truth."

Hanging up on her friend she began to enter the restaurant. Shareef was already waiting for her. She could see flowers sitting in the booth next to him. He stood up excited to see her. They shared a soft hug. When he tried to kiss her she tilted her head allowing him to kiss her cheek.

Ignoring the tension she sat down and smiled, "Are those flowers for me?"

Nodding his head he presented the roses to her. She took them hearing the crinkling of the paper that surrounded the stems. The restaurant was quiet. Dim lights tried to set the tone for the lovers but it wasn't working.

"Why do you do that?"

Y/N lifted her eyes to face him, "Do what?"

"You never seem to be as interested in me as I am in you. You act like you can't trust me. You take one step forward and then take ten steps back with me."

Y/N fingered the crease of the menu that sat in front of her. The cool table seemed to relax her hot skin for some time. She cleared her throat before speaking.

"I can't trust anyone. I've been hurt in the past by niggas who ain't shit." She sighed allowing all the stress to fall from her burdened shoulders.

"You can trust me, you know that right?" Shareef held her hand from across the table.

She resisted the urge to pull her hand away. She liked the feeling of her hand intertwined with hers, "I think I'm just starting to see that."

Taking a leap of faith Y/N looked him in the eyes, "I just want to apologize for everything that I did. I know that me having trust and abandonment issues made me hurt you in the process. Can we start over?"

He gave her a wide warm smile, "Yeah. I'd like that."

"Just bear with me."
