Wake Up Love| Sharife Cooper
Y/N tapped her pencil against the wooden desk as she listened to the teacher ramble about equations. Her brown eyes glanced between the clock and the board. With shaking hands, she continued to write the notes on her paper.
Sharife sat next to her watching her gently. She hadn't even noticed he was staring at her. But, he always did. Every class. All-day. His paper was empty and the practice problems stared back at him.
The bell rang interrupted Sharife's staring. He watched Y/N quickly pack up her books and zoom out of class before he had a chance to speak to her. Following her, he found Y/N putting her coat on at her locker. The hallway was loud but he didn't mind. He was only focused on one thing.
"Y/N?" Sharife asked finally coming face to face with the girl of his dreams.
"Hey, Sharife." She replied softly.
He shifted his weight confidently, "I was wondering if maybe you'd want to go out sometime?"
Y/N was at a loss for words. Her stomach tightened with butterflies and her jaw became heavy. Blocking out her nervousness she could only say one thing, "No."
"Wait what? No?" Sharife asked following Y/N to the parking lot.
Irritated she roughly responded, "I said no."
Smirking he let her walk away, "Sooner or later I'm gonna get you to go out with me!"
Shocked she shook her head before getting into her car. He watched her leave once again. He'll try even harder tomorrow. Y/N made it home in time for an early dinner. Her mother was cooking steak and potatoes.
"Are you going to the basketball game later tonight? I heard varsity is playing." Y/N's little sister Jennifer asked scooping food into her mouth.
Y/N shrugged, "I don't know. I have a lot of homework to do."
Her old sister Malia snorted, "No you don't. We're going tonight. I'll drive."
Y/N sighed but complied with her sisters. Having a sister be a freshman and a senior was hard. Crowds made her nervous and all she could think of was Sharife. He'd be playing tonight and he'd definitely try to mack on her if he saw that she was attending.
"What's this I heard about you and Sharife?" Jennifer asked innocently making their mother cough on her food.
Y/N could see the devil playing in her sisters eyes, "There's nothing going on."
Malia laughed, "I heard he asked you out and you said no."
"You said no? Why?" Their mother asked looking for all the tea.
Y/N rolled her eyes, "He's a player. Like I don't want a boyfriend right now."
"You still mad about what happened when ya'll was children?" Malia questioned not even paying attention to the food anymore.
"Wait what happened when ya'll was younger?" Jennifer asked confused. Being the youngest one she was terrible with all the old tea in the family.
Y/N and her sisters continued into the packed stadium. The crowd cheered and danced to the old 2000's music the DJ was playing. She tried to pull down the cropped sweater her sister made her wear but it wouldn't budge.
The three girls sat in the middle of the bleachers talking to each other. Sharife was warming up with his boys. Shooting mid court and stretching. He scanned the crowd. His eyes landed on Y/N they widened in joy. He would be showing out tonight just for her.
"Yo, I think your man is staring at you." Malia nudged Y/N's shoulders making her head pop up.
Staring into his eyes she tried not to blush. Not being able to contain her smile she finally gave in and sent him a small wave. Of course he smiled back and gave her a head nod in return. Looking away she pushed on Malila shoulder making her giggle.
"I hate you for that."
"But you'll love me at your wedding." She replied kissing her cheek.
Y/N stood in the parking lot with her sisters and their friends. They chatted about the game but all she wanted to do was look for Sharife. Their team had won the game. A blowout 52-15. The sun was beginning to set at seven.
The chilly wind blew at her uncovered face making her shiver. She saw Sharife exit the gym looking refreshed. He was goofing off with his teammates happy that they had won the game. Noticing Y/N, he said goodbye to his friends earning snickers from them.
"Hey, good game." Y/N complimented him on his skills the minute he approached her in the almost empty lot.
"I'm glad you came." His smile was bright and brought that energy that made Y/N smile.
His arms opened for a hug and she gladly returned it. His warmth shielded her from the chilly autumn air. Letting go she blushed and tried to cover her face.
"You finna let me take you out now?" He asked scanning her face for some type of consent.
"Yeah."
The two sat in a comfy booth at the twenty four hour diner. My Girl by The Temptations play lowly in the background. Ironic huh? Y/N sipped on her hot chocolate looking outside the window.
"Why you always gotta stare at me?" Y/N asked hiding her face with the menu.
"Because you're gorgeous."
Sharife pulled on the menu making Y/N show her entire face, "Why you so nervous?"
Y/N laughed, "Have you seen yourself lately?"
The two ate and talked all night. Their laughter filled the restaurant until it was time for them to leave. Sharief dropped Y/N off at her house and walked her to the front door. They stood at her doorstep in silence.
"I had fun tonight." Y/N exclaimed watching her sisters peak from the windows.
Sharife noticed her sisters and waved them off, "Next week we should go to that haunted house!"
"Sure that sounds fun. I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you."
Y/N turned to leave not before placing a kiss to his cheek. Her sisters screaming from excitement made Sharife laugh out loud before walking to his car. He finally got the girl he wanted and it sure as hell felt good.
