The Waitress| Josh Christopher

"Do I really have to go today?" Y/N asked her boss over the phone.

"Y/N if you don't get ya' ass out the bed and get to work." Her father, her boss, shouted through the phone speakers.

She sucked her teeth and tossed the phone on her plush bed. Her father owned plenty of chain restaurants in Arizona. Freddies BBQ was a popular spot for college kids. Drinks and unlimited hot wings for ten dollars was something everyone came out for.

Y/N was well taken care of but she was lazy as hell. After graduating high school at sixteen she went to college and got her bachelor's in business by the time she was nineteen. Overachiever was an understatement of her past. Now, all she wanted was to chill.

After picking out her curls she dressed in the uniform and went to her tesla, a gift from her father. She parked and entered the sports restaurant. Even though she would become CEO of her father's companies he wanted her to work for it first. That meant bussing tables and taking orders.

"Yo! Yo! Wassup kid." The fifty-year-old cook and Y/N's work father, Benny, spoke.

"Wassup Mr. Benny! Damn, we hella busy right now." Y/N gazed from the kitchen to the main floor.

He hummed an old tune while prepping more wings, "It's the dinner rush! Better start before Hobbs tells your dad you ain't working."

On queue Y/N's supervisor and babysitter, Hobbs appeared in a crisp white dress shirt and black slacks. His hand was always glued to his cell phone. And her father was on the other end. Cursing in her head she grabbed her materials and went to her other co-workers.

"Stella! Which section I'm working on?"

Stella the hostess checked the chart, "Section five. Be a big girl, it's ballers in that section."

"Ballers or wanna be college ballers. There's a difference." Mia another co-worker spoke while seating guests.

Giggling Y/N made her way to section five. Their loud cheers startled her. They'd definitely be a tough crowd for her. Sucking it up she made her way to the table.

"Hi! My name is Y/N I'll be your server today. Can I get you all started with some drinks and appetizers?" She pulled out her pad while their chatter died down.

"Can we all get some water first?" The rest of the boys cut him off.

"With mozzarella sticks!"

"Onion rings!"

"Two cokes, one spite, and two iced teas!"

"Them lil potato skins."

Josh looked at his friends and waved them off, "And whatever the hottest wings on the menu are?" Josh spoke smiling at Y/N.

"Ain't nothing as hot as her." One of his teammates spoke out loud causing some of them to laugh.

She rolled her eyes, "I'll be right back with that."

She went to the kitchen and place the gigantic order on the tabs so the crew could see it. Hurrying she filled five cups of water and added lemon wedges to the small serving cup in case they were feeling festive.

Balancing the tray she set them down with ease, "Here are the waters! I'll come back with the rest of the drinks. And your apps should be coming up shortly!" Y/N said but got no response in return.

Jalen was the only one paying attention, "Thank you!"

Y/N walked off and went to get the drinks. Benny had said their apps were ready for taking out. Deciding to make them wait a little longer she only got the drinks. Her smirk was evident on her face.

"When are the apps coming out?" One of Josh's friends shouted at Y/N.

"They're coming out soon. As you can see we're packed."

Josh examined his friends and frowned, "Can we let Y/N do her job!"

Y/N smiled at him again as a way of saying thanks.

Popular music played in the background. Y/N went to get their appetizers and brung them out immediately.

"Ya'll wings should be coming in soon."

In an effort to keep her around Josh gathered her attention, "How many baskets come out?"

"Four baskets with about ten wings in each."

The wings were still being made but the table had finished their apps in about fifteen minutes. Carrying their trash to the back Y/N grabbed the finished wings. The table cheered with excitement. She set the wings down with blue cheese and ranch sauces and extra napkins. They instantly dug in and ignored Y/N's presence.

"Enjoy." She spoke turning to go back to the kitchen.

Above the loud music she could hear Josh speak lightly, "Thank you."

The rest of the evening was uneventful. Her shift was soon to be over.  She stood cleaning off tables and helping with the dirty dishes. Most of her tables had eaten, tipped and gone home. Once the group of boys left she immediately went to the table and started cleaning.

They had left dirty napkins, chicken bones, and empty trays on the table. Y/N shook her head in disgust. But she smiled when she saw Josh's side neatly stacked.

"Uh, excuse me?" A soft voice spoke out loud.

She turned to see who was standing in the restaurant. Josh swayed on his two feet not knowing what to say. She gave him a soft smile which encouraged him to speak up. He pulled a couple of crips bills from his pocket.

"I wanted to give you the tip personally." His smile was brighter than the sun.

Y/N took the money, "Thank you so much. Have a good one."

Automatically she went back to cleaning. He still admired her from where he was standing. Still feeling his presence she turned again to face him. Putting the cleaning cloth down she placed a hand on her hip.

"What's up?"

He looked down to the group a bit embarrassed but picked his head up, "I was wondering if I could get your number? I'm Josh by the way."

Her smile grew a bit, "Sure."
