Sweet Love| LiAngelo Ball
Sweet Love by Anita Baker
Liangelo Ball as Himself
You as Angela McCoy
"So you telling me he's not coming?" Sylvia, my older sister asked as I watched the snowfall outside.
"No. Why would I expect him to come when he's with his family?" I responded shrugging my shoulders.
She sucked her teeth, "You sound dumb."
I cranked my neck to look at her. Slyvia stook in front of the 70-inch television with her arms crossed over her chest. I looked away from her knowing she was right. I traced shapes on the foggy window that overlooked the skyline of New York.
"Didn't you tell me you guys were official?"
"Yes," I said.
"Well, if you guys were official wouldn't he at least come to see you on Thanksgiving day, mind you it's today, or at least take you to meet his family in California?" Syliva questioned giving me a tension headache.
Liangelo and I were dating for four years exclusively now. But, it seemed like everyone has a problem with us dating privately first.
I waved my hand dismissively, "Okay, damn. I guess we aren't official then."
I felt her warm arm on my shoulder and I leaned into her embrace. I guess she figured I had enough of her talking my head off. She sat on the window ledge and looked at me.
"You can still come over Granny's house. Dinner starts in a couple of hours." She said persuasively.
I nodded and went to the back of my sky rise condo to my walk-in closet. I skimmed through the various pieces of clothing until my hand landed on a pink knit long-sleeved sweater. I paired the sweater with dark jeans and a long coat.
"I'm ready!" I called out applying my last bit of lip gloss.
And so here I was sitting at my grandma's table passing around food. Everyone was happy and in their own world enjoying family time. Laughing and smiling. While I just sat there picking at my food, constantly checking my phone, and wishing I was home.
"Angie! Come in here and help me with these dishes." My grandma said picking up her glass dishes and china.
I immediately got up to help her. I washed the dishes while she dried. I could tell she was worried about me. I could feel her staring at me.
"You upset ova' that boy ain't you?" She said finally breaking the ice.
I sniffed as I tried to hold back my tears, "I just don't know what to do? He said he was coming up here for Thanksgiving. And then he just left me in the dark. No phone calls or texts."
"Girl, you too pretty to be worried about a boy who can't keep his promises. If he wanted to be with you then he would have shown up."

I sighed as I turned the bathwater on. I added bubbles and bath salts. While I let the tub fill up I checked the time. 10:30 pm. I checked my phone one last time. No notifications. I turned off all the lights and quickly undressed.
I submerged my body into the hot water. Allowing the steam to flow off my skin. I silently cried to myself. Today was important to me and Liangelo knew that. I wanted to spend time with him and his family. Or even spend time with him and my family. Something together like we had planned.
I quickly washed my body and dried off. After putting on lotion I pulled on my silk pajama set and pulled on my bonnet. I settled into bed comforting myself. Finally drifting off I heard loud knocks at my door.
Sitting up in bed I rubbed my eyes before walking to the door. I checked the peephole seeing Liangelo looking distraught. I debated if I should open the door.
"Angela, I know you're behind the door. Open up, please." He begged.
I unlocked the door and opened it slightly. The cold air from the hallway gave me goosebumps. I squinted my eyes seeing that he brought food.
"Really? Chinese food on Thanksgiving? The fuck are you doing here?" I asked not letting him in.
"Can you just let me in?"
"Why should I? We aren't together. And I don't let strangers in my crib. Leave." I said letting my emotions take over. I tried to shut the door but he placed his foot in the doorway stopping me.
I looked into his pleading eyes. I sucked my teeth before letting him in. I turned the dim setting for the lights. And he sat his ass on my couch taking out the food.
"I know you didn't eat. Here." He said patting the seat next to him.
"How'd you know I ain't eat?" I sat next to him taking my bonnet off and letting my natural hair fall.
"Your sister called me while ya'll was at dinner earlier."

I hated that he could come back into my life and my space and I'd fall in love with him all over again. He did just that. My back was against his chest as he explained what happened. I allowed him to caress my exposed skin which ignited sparks in my belly. Sweet Love by Anita Baker played softly on the radio.
"I was on the way here for Cali. I promise I was. But, we got caught in the snowstorm. We had to land in Ohio. I was stuck at the airport with no service. So I couldn't call you or anything." He said as I listened to our hearts beating.
"That sounds a little bit cliche. But, I believe you."
He laughed before facing me.
"I get that you were mad at me for not communicating better but..." He stopped before getting on his knees in front of me.
"I did get you this." He said pulling out a ring box.
My stomach churned as he opened the box to reveal an engagement ring. I covered my face in shock. He smiled at me before taking my left hand and slipping the band on my slim finger. Oh shit.
"Will you marry me, Angela?"
I nodded my head before hugging him and giving him a kiss on the lips. We stood up together and I got an idea.
"Dance with me," I said excitedly before running to the radio and turning up the song.

I'll try to start making these more juicy and drama-filled. I just like a lot of cliche love stories cuz I don't get that type of love at home. (lol sorry)
