Rain Stops Eventually| Trevante Rhodes
The rain pattered hard drenching everything in its path. Y/N laid asleep on the cool mattress. Her curves outlined by the small salt lamp that sat on the dresser. Her peaceful slumber was interrupted by a ringtone. Her face scrunched in annoyance. Rolling over she faced the bright screen.
"Oh, fuck." She whispered before picking up the device.
A boom of thunder cut her off before she could speak, "Hello?"
Trevante hesitated at first, "Hey. I know it's late but can I come over."
"Come over. I'll leave a key under the mat."
Y/N hung up the phone tossing it somewhere on the bed. The thunderstorm continued as Y/N rested her head on the pillow. She laid with her eyes closed until she heard the click of the door. His dark figure entered the room. His cologne was intoxicating. Y/N knew the sent by heart.
Y/N shifted out of bed rubbing the tiredness from her eyes. She stood and engulfed him in a tight hug. She inhaled his scent once again finally waking up. Trevante took in her calming presence. His muscles relaxed at her touch.
She led him to the kitchen, "You know I can feeling your heart racing?"
He chuckled watching her boil water to make tea. Y/N pulled out two mugs. They clinked against the marble tabletop. He took in her features. She was still gorgeous even with a bonnet on. Despite the silence, the flash of lightning broke his gaze.
"I can't have coffee?" He asked opening the teabag.
Y/N shook her head, "That's not what you need."
"Oh, I forgot. That's your job."
Y/N sat next to him as she waited for the water to boil. She ignored his question. She placed a soft yet sultry kiss on his lips. He leaned into her. She moaned slightly. A clap of thunder allowed her to pull away. He rested his head on her chest.
"How long you been up?" She questioned him caressing his dark skin.
"Since forever."
Y/N stayed quiet. She looked out the window watching the rainfall. Her heart broke for her man once again. He had just returned from his tour in Iraq. He rarely spoke about his time in the military. She imagined that's the reason he couldn't sleep at night especially when it rained.
Y/N was so zoned out that Trevante's grip on her thighs had brought her back down to earth. The kettle was screaming. Y/N turned the stove off and made their late-night specials. Y/N stirred the sugar in her mug watching him intensely.
"You wanna talk about it?"
"No."
His stern voice made her roll her eyes, "And you wonder why you can't function. You got all that shit bottled up."
Trevante locked eyes with her, "Don't patronize me. You don't need to know what happened."
She scoffed in response, "Yeah, okay. So let's ignore insomnia, the night terrors, the stress, everything!"
"Just drop it!" His voice boomed just as loud as the thunder.
Y/N slammed her cup down on the counter. Its steaming hot contents poured onto her flesh. She didn't react once. Her rage had reached a breaking point. Their staring contest ended with her final words.
"I want you to seek help. That's the only way to help you heal. I can't keep being your crutch because you don't want to face what the hell happened. This is your last time coming here. You can sleep but I want you gone before the sun rises. And if you don't get help then we're done."
Y/N left the kitchen without hearing his words. She didn't want any explanations or sit-downs. Trevante had caused her enough pain by making her his personal bed whenever he came across the problems brought by his past.
Tears pooled in the back of her eyes as she crawled into her bed. The rain came down harder this time. She could hear his chair pull out. He came into the bedroom placing his personal items on her dresser.
He pulled open the first drawer where she kept all his stuff. Pulling out clean clothes and a durag he went into the bathroom. She heard him take a shower and coming out a few minutes later. Her words played over and over. What would he pick.
The ruffling of the duvet broke her train of thought. He slid next to her. His heat radiating off his body. He planted a kiss on her shoulder as he leaned closer to her. Y/N stayed still. She couldn't fall for one of his games again.
"I didn't mean to hurt you." His voice was the softest it had ever been.
Y/N continued to mind her business on her side of the bed, "Okay, Trevante."
He sucked his teeth, "If you would let me finish. I was going to say that I'm finna get help. I shouldn't have dumped my emotional baggage on you like this. The stuff I've seen and done haunts me. I see faces everywhere. Innocent people. Evil people. It doesn't matter. I'm sorry. I don't want to ruin what we have over things that I can learn to control."
Y/N turned to face him. It was the first time he had ever taken accountability for his actions. She looked into his eyes even through the darkness of the room. He was serious. Sincerity blended with compassion as he pleaded with her.
"I forgive you. I just want you to get the help you need. It doesn't make you weak. It makes you strong. Vulnerability is a quality, remember that."
He kissed her with passion. The room was no longer cold but filled with warmth. Y/N pecked his lips one last time before pulling away. She blushed feeling like a schoolgirl again. Y/N laid on his chest.
"If we don't stop I won't get any sleep tonight." Trevante laughed at Y/N's excuse to not be intimate.
"Oh, look the rain stopped." He said noticing the peacefulness of nature.
"I always told you that rain stops eventually."
