Menace To Society| Larenz Tate
Y/N walked through the projects minding her business. Her over-sized tee moved slightly with each step and her box braids were tight and fresh. Passing by the group of men she noticed one in particular.
"Y/N!"
Ignoring his calls to her she rolled her eyes and continued to walk home. The gold chains around her neck made a clunking sound as her steps were rapid. Feeling a pull on her arm she turned around.
"What O?" Her face scrunched creating wrinkles on her soft forehead.
Sucking his teeth he let go of her arm, "You ain't hear me calling yo' stupid ass?"
"What did I tell you about talking to me like that? What do you want?" Y/N questioned.
The heels of her feet pivoted to face O. His braids moved slightly as he smiled at the girl in front of him. O placed his lanky arm around her shoulders and proceeded to walk her home. Y/N didn't put up a fight.
"You going to that graduation party tonight?"
Turning her head she replied, "Yeah why?"
"You don't be answering my calls or nothing. A nigga gotta come track you down and figure out what the fuck going on with you." O played in her braids sliding the tips of his fingers across her delicate face.
"You wouldn't have to come track me down if you was in school like the rest of us."
He sucked his teeth, "School ain't important right now."
"But fucking bitches and getting money is, right?" Y/N smirked shoving his arm off of her.
She ran up the pissy steps to her mother's apartment. O watched her leave him standing in the middle of the crowded quad. She slammed the door emphasizing her annoyance with him. Y/N watched him from the window sighing.
"God please protect him." Her whispers were light as she sent the positive energy his way.
O had always been in the streets. Y/N tried to help him get out but the streets loved him more than his mother. He was destined for failure. Y/N on the other hand stayed in the books and was going to UCLA in the fall. Her future was set. His wasn't.
That night Y/N was staring into her tall mirror. She carefully laid her edges sticking her tounge out in concentration. Tucking in her shirt and brushing off her jeans she smiled into the mirror. By the time she got to the graduation party people were everywhere.
"Hey ya'll." She exclaimed waving her slim hands as she entered the house.
Small hi and bye's slipped from her mouth as she passed folks she knew. The smell of alcohol flooded her sensitve nostrils making her mouth water. Loud music played as Y/N continued to make her way to the back of the house.
"Ah shit, look who finally showed up!" Caine yelled from the garage holding his arms open for a hug.
She blushed slightly as she gave Caine a hug, "Hey Caine."
O was talking loudly waving a vhs tape in his hands. Y/N rolled her eyes knowing what he was talking about. She stood by some girls as Caine passed her a beer. Ignoring, O she waited until he was finished rambling.
"So you not gone speak?" He asked leaning against the car.
She shook her head, "It's the showing your kill tape for me."
"You always on that bullshit." O waved her off.
"I'm trying to keep you safe and alive but all you do is fuck up. Go ahead and ruin your life." Y/N was ready to go at this point.
"Woah! What's with all the tension?" Caine was dumber than a bag of rocks. He couldn't even tell what the hell was going on between the two.
"Nothing."
Caine looked between them and shrugged his shoulders, "Well we finna go kick it somewhere else. You wanna come Y/N?"
O's arm was wrapped around her shoulder protectively, "Yeah I'll go."
She knew that being around him meant trouble but she couldn't resist. They all gathered into two cars. Y/N thought riding in the opposite car would've been best. She sat in the back while Caine and his cousin rode in the front.
They waited at the stop light. Y/N was enjoying the music. The street was empty and quiet. Almost too quiet. A black car pulled up next to them. Before she could speak their guns were drawn and hot bullets came flying.
Her scream was inaudible as she flew to the floor trying to protect herself. The windows shattered and the sharp glass cut at her face. The screeching of the tires let her know that they had left.
Crying from the pain in her abdomin she crawled out of the car landing on the ground. Looking down at her side blood pooled at the bullet wound in her stomach. Y/N's vision became blurry and all she could think about was O.
"Caine!" Y/N shouted trying to figure out if he was alright.
She could hear him mumble but she was too weak to get up. Darkness pooled at her eyes. She was losing too much blood. Hearing O's voice in the distance made her perk up. They must have heard the shots from the gas station.
"Y/N! It's gone be alright." O shouted as he rushed to the car.
They grabbed Caine from the car first. He had it worse than her. Feeling her body being lifted made her scream in pain.
"Baby it's just me. Relax. Relax."
Y/N's tears were being wiped away as the car sped off in the direction of the hospital. Her eyes started to close. Her brain was foggy.
"You gotta stay awake." O shook her face to get her eyes open.
"I'm sleepy. Just let me sleep."
"Nah, you know I can't do that." He told her putting pressure on her bleeding wounds.
"If I die you gotta do good for me, okay?" She weakly gripped his bloody shirt.
"You know I will. But, you ain't gone die. Not on my watch." He caressed her face and finally placed a tender kiss to her lips.
