Letters| Dave East

Dave East as Himself

Y/N as yourself

2017

Popping your gum you walked down the New York streets wishing the heatwave would end. You wore booty shorts and a cami. Sweating like a maniac you entered your apartment complex. The cool air hit you and you sighed in relief.

Letting your bookbag fall you checked your mailbox. A nigga standing to the left of you made you jump. Sucking your teeth you locked your mailbox before turning to the dude.

"David. What I tell you about scaring me like that?" You asked angrily crossing your arms.

He laughed. His deep sultry voice already making you wet. Squeezing your legs you rolled your eyes. Dave East was fucking annoying. But, he was your neighbor. And sometimes he was your friend.

"You know I love messing with you."

He wrapped his slender arm around his neck as he walked you to your door a couple of flights up. More warmth spread through your body but you couldn't accept that.

"How's school coming?" He asked stopping in front of your apartment.

"Good. I mean its fun and everything."

"Mane, don't give me that bullshit. You know you need to be going for art instead of doing whatever you doing now." He encouraged you.

Shaking your head in disbelief, "You know why I can't do that."

Opening your door he followed ranting behind you. "Fuck your parents. That business degree ain't gone do shit for you. Start doing what you love."

Turning your neck you huffed once more, " You don't get it. I can't just do that. My parents pay for this apartment and giving me money on the side. How am I supposed to pay for college?" You questioned.

"You know I gotchu more than anything."

He wasn't lying. But, you know what he did behind closed doors. Slanging in the streets all day and night. Not even coming home for days. You didn't want his drug money. It wasn't worth it.

"I have a plan. Getting this business degree will allow me to open up my own gallery. Then I can start selling my art. Can you change the subject?"

"Come with me to this party tonight."

"You won't be working will you?"

He shook his head, "Nah."

"Bet."

"Bet."

Already at the party, you sat on Dave's lap as people around you danced and joked. You were ready to go. Y/N couldn't focus. Her heart was too heavy at the moment.

"You good?" Dave asked noticing a change in your mood.

Staring into his brown eyes your gaze softened, "I wanna her drunk."

"Go ahead. I won't drink tonight then."

You went to the kitchen greeting people on your way. Everybody had known you since they always saw you with Dave. And he always seemed to be talking about you to his homeboys.

Drowning out the background noise Y/N took shot after shot. The back of her throat was burning but she didn't care. Feeling hot she left the kitchen and Dave was waiting on her.

"I wanna dance." You said pulling him to a less crowded area.

Dave followed your lead taking in your new personality brought on by the alcohol. Letting your worries go you sunk into Dave's broad chest.

"I want you to fuck me!" Y/N boldly told Dave as he carried her upstairs to his apartment.

"Nah shorty. You ain't ready for all that yet." He said holding her up as she was leaning forward.

"Can we still go to your place? Mine reminds me of hell." She said in a baby-like voice.

Y/N pushed herself against Dave again trying to turn him on. Her eyes were hooded as the alcohol ran through her veins.

Seeing that his apartment was closer and Y/N was heavy as fuck he went to unlock his apartment. He took his keys out as she hummed a song that he didn't know.

"You know I always liked you." Y/N said as Dave laid her body on the couch.

"And why's that?"

"Because you turn me on." She laughed blindly.

David ignored her naughty comments that started to flood out her mouth like word vomit. He took her air forces off her feet and proceeded to remove her socks.

"I'd let you do anything to me. Fuck me senselessly as I drip all over the place. You know that'd make my day."

"Y/N, chill with all that." He told her while motioning her to lift her arms up.

She drunkenly lifted her arms. He took off her shirt revealing her red lace bra. Dave handed her one of his shirts to sleep in.

"You gone have to take off your pants."

"Can you help me? I'm struggling over here."

They both laid in Dave's bed. Y/N was asleep. Snoring slightly she resembled an angel to Dave. He liked her a lot. But he couldn't ever cross that line. He wanted too. Only if she gave him a chance when she wasn't drunk.

The next morning, the smell of bacon and grits filled the kitchen. Y/N woke up from her deep slumber to a growling stomach.

"Ugh." She sighed pushing her hair out of her face.

Noticing that she wasn't in her apartment she pulled the duvet off her legs. Dave's Rolex watches sat on his nightstand along with a gun. It made her skin crawl but she was happy seeing that she was safe.

Heading to the bathroom she took a shower washing the stench of alcohol off her body. Brushing her teeth and refreshing her hair she put on the clothes Dave put out for her.

"Good morning!" She chimes walking into the kitchen seeing Dave cooking. He smiled and continued to flip the bacon.

"More like afternoon."

Sucking her teeth she grinned, "Boy. It's only eleven."

"How are you feeling?" He asked stepping closer to her.

"Good. Thank you for taking care of me last night. I know I showed you a different side of me. But, maybe I meant what I said." Her finger slid down David's tatted chest.

"Oh really." He said looking at her plump lips.

Y/N made the first move and kissed him. Immediately kissing her back his hand slid to her backside. Their moment was interrupted by banging on the door.

"Police!"

Y/N jumped in fear. The banging stopped and the hinges of the door flew off. Dozens of federal agents bombarded the apartment. Your eyes widened as you realized what was going on. A female agent took Y/N away as they arrested Dave.

"David!" You shouted not knowing what to do.

He was already in handcuffs, "I'll be aight. Just go with the lady."

He was calm but you could see the tick in his jaw as they roughly escorted him out. On the verge of tears, you sat with the agents giving them everything you knew. Which was nothing because he never got you involved with anything.

"I don't know what you're talking about. David never got me involved with this shit. I don't know anything."

Everything after that went by in a blur. The court dates and sentencing. Crying your eyes out because he was your only true friend. You realized you loved David East. He had become you everything after you moved to New York. And that's when you realized what you had to do. Picking up your pen with shaky hands you began to write.

"Dear Dave,"

2020

You waited for the gates to open as you leaned on the side of your car. You wore a coat and scarf as it was wintertime. Small white snowflakes fell from the sky as you rubbed your hands together. Nose turning bright red you checked your phone. Bold white numbers crossed the screen. Ten o'clock pm.

"They betta' hurry up." You said your slight Baltimore accent slipping through.

The screeching sound of the rusty old gates opening caught your attention. Your man, Dave, emerged rubbing his arms as he felt like he would freeze to death. You laughed at his reaction before standing completely straight.

Running to him with open arms you couldn't stop yourself from jumping onto him. Hugging him tight he returned the favor by squeezing your waist.

"Wassup ma, long time no see." Dave joked as you unlocked your car.

Squealing excitedly you responded, "I'm so happy to see you!"

"You want something to eat? I know jail food ain't all that." You asked reaching in the backseat for the container of food you brought.

He smirked seeing how happy you were. Nodding he grabbed the container and opened it up to some delicious mac and cheese, collards, chicken and cornbread. All made by his mother.

"You already know ya', momma wasn't finna let me pick you up without sending something."

"I missed you." He said stuffing his face with food.

"I know. I missed you too."

Arriving at your place you unlocked the front door and allowed Dave to roam around. He stretched and went to lay on your expensive couch.

"Nah. Go take a shower! You stink."

Dave laughed, "That's how you feel? Aight show me where it is."

After giving him a towel, soap and washcloth you left him alone. Sitting alone you sighed. Dave had been locked up since the summer of 2017. Three years too long. By then you had graduated from college and it seemed like you'd lost sight of your relationship with Dave. If you could call it that.

The only way for you to communicate with him while he was away, was letters. That was the only tangible thing. You couldn't see him because of college. Constant phone calls and putting money on his books was the only thing keeping you sane. Closing your eyes you dozed off waiting for David to be finished.

"Aye, wake up." You heard as Dave shook you awake.

He was dressed in basketball shorts with no shirt. Small water droplets were on his waves and the towel you gave him was over his shoulders. He needed a haircut but you did enjoy looking at his newly grown beard. It suits him.

"I guess I fell asleep. Speaking of sleep. You not tired?"

You laid on Dave's chest as he looked at you peacefully. Rubbing over his tattoos you prayed silently. Wishing and hoping he'd do the right thing after being released. It had been a long journey. And you fell in love with him even more.

"I guess it's time to pick up where we left off." He smirked kissing you passionately.
