Good Luck| Shareef O'Neal
based on the song: good luck by nao feat. lucky daye
Y/N tried her best to wipe the tears that fell from her face. She had just gotten the news that Shareef would be moving across the country to play pro ball. She looked at herself in the mirror remembering his last words...
"I think we should break up. I know that we both won't be able to do that long-distance thing. Maybe we can make this thing work one day but not right now."
Y/N was shocked at how nonchalant he had been. She knew that his basketball career always came first but she just wished he was more gentle with his words. Y/N blinked a few times before smiling in the mirror.
"You got this girl. Don't let them see you cry." She said sniffling.
With one last look in the mirror, she exited the bathroom. Shareef was packing his suitcase for his plane ride. She took a look around his bedroom. Flashes of the past six months played in her head. Their first date, their first kiss, everything.
"You been crying?" Shareef asked looking at her.
She shook her head no. Shareef sucked his teeth as he approached her. His big arms wrapped around her body. His chin rested on top of her head. Y/N felt like breaking down all over again. He rubbed her back.
He leaned down to kiss her. She kissed him three times. I. Love. You. It was something they always did.
"I know basketball means everything to you. You could've been nice about it though." She cracked a smile at him.
He looked down at her wiping a few stray tears from her eyes, "I know. I'm sorry."
"You don't even wanna fight for the relationship. Just demote me back to friend status." She traced the tattoos on his arms.
He laughed, "It's not like I don't want to stop seeing you-"
"Then don't."
Shareef rolled his eyes, "Don't you wanna know how I feel? I'm saving us both the heartache."
Y/N's body went rigid, "That's ironic. I could fly out a few times a month. We could do virtual dates or whatever. We don't have to break up. You being silly playing with my heart and I don't like that."
"This is what I'm talking about. You're being clingy again."
Y/N's face twisted in confusion, "Where is all this coming from?"
"Stop begging and just learn to accept shit, Y/N. Damn, I just wanna experience life right now without any commitments."
Y/N laughed pushing him slightly, "Fuck you, for real. Goodbye, Shareef."
"Wait, Y/N!"
She grabbed her bag throwing it over the shoulder. Shareef looked back at her with regret in his eyes. She was really walking away from him. Opening the door she took one last look back at him.
"Good luck, save it for the next one. You'll need it."
