Girls Need Love by Summer Walker
Daniel Ezra as Spencer James
You as Megan Conwell
"Are you still coming to the game tonight?" I asked my friend, Ariel, swinging my box braids.
She nodded her head while sucking on her half-eaten blow pop. I was dressed in my cheer uniform for South Crenshaw High School.
"We're playing against the rich white boys in Beverly."
I sucked my teeth, "Did you forget Spencer is at Beverly now. He ain't all that rich, boo. But, one day he's gonna be a star."
Ariel rolled her eyes, "Girl, you so stuck on that boy. Come on before we're late."

"Don't mess this up, guys." The cheer captain spoke as we stretched on the side of the field.
The sun was beaming and the stands were begging to fill up. I watched as the Beverly High bus pulled up. We all watched in slow motion as the team came out one by one. Spencer lifted his bag on his shoulder as he walked next to the players.
"Quit staring." Ariel nudged me and cocked her head to the side.
I nodded and proceeded to get in my spot. I picked up the shiny green pom-poms and whipped them around with the rest of the other girls. Staring out onto the long field, I just knew tonight was gonna be a long night.

Ariel huffed, "Mane, I can't believe those stuck up ass mayo boys won."
I giggled at her attitude. "It's just a game. Ten years from now nobodies going to remember football games in high school."
I untied my hair from its restricting bun and let my tight kinks free. A slight wind blew cooling off my sweaty skin. My back was sore from having to stand outside for two hours and dance for the team. I was tired. The sun was already set. And I was trying to get home as fast as possible.
"I'll catch you on Monday." I told Ariel giving her a short hug.
"Bye sweets! Text me when you get home. Don't forget."
Walking towards the exit, I was greeted by other football players. I smiled and waved. The laughed and joked as I continued on my journey home.
"Hey, Megan!"
I turned my head irritated that another person was stopping me from getting home. It was getting darker and lord knows I couldn't be walking around the neighborhood by myself.
"Spencer!" I greeted him happily.
His smile was brighter than the sun. No really. It was. His arms extended for a hug and I gladly returned it.
"You walking home?" He asked gripping his bag.
I nodded my head. "I'll walk with you then."
I let out a sigh of relief. The sun had gone down faster than I thought. Plus, it was Spencer James. The boy I've had a crush on since grade school.
"So, how's Beverly?" I asked glancing at him.
"It's okay. Not as good as being at Crenshaw. It's too white for me."
I giggled, "Spencer if you can make it at Crenshaw you can make it anywhere."
In a short span of time it seemed as if we talked about everything. Like old friends catching up. We finally made it to my house. I stopped at the front steps for any last words.
"Would you wanna hang out sometime?" He asked flashing a coy smile.
Authors Note:
This has been sitting in my drafts for a good minute and I needed to update. I'm about to stop writing because I feel like all my work is bad. I'm going to take a day and really focusing on my writing. Especially to make it more adult like and not so high schoolish. Vote and comment I guess.
