Dopeman| Rotimi
Rotimi as Andre "Dre" Coleman
You as Mia Scott
I heard the front door open and slam. I sat up in my twin size bed and looked at the clock. 3:27 am read in red led lighting. I sighed and got up fixing the bonnet on my head. I checked momma's room to see that she was missing. Probably at work.
The bathroom door wasn't closed all the way and light seeped into the hallway. Marcus, my older brother, washed his hands at the sink. I peaked in further, blood mixed in with the clear water making me gasp.
I opened the door, "Marcus what the hell?"
He jumped but relaxed seeing that it was just me. He sucked his teeth and continued to clean up. I looked at him intensely. Cuts littered his face and blood splattered on his white teeshirt. I only came to one conclusion.
"I can't believe you! You really joined the gang. Wow. I guess Dre got to you." I scoffed at him.
"Go to bed. Don't you got school tomorrow?" He asked trying to get rid of me.
"I hope you're careful. The minute you come up to Dre short he'll put a bullet through you."
I left the bathroom and went back to my room. We didn't live in the best of neighborhoods. After daddy died momma had to take the weight all by herself. She worked two jobs. I guess Marcus felt the need to help momma. He knew selling dope was dangerous. But, he never cared about anything.

"Girl come to the store wit' me." Kayla, the girl around the corner, said banging loudly on the screen door.
I looked up from my notebook and slammed it shut. The evening sun was shining and I had no choice but to walk with her. I wasn't going to let her go alone. And nobody was home at the moment.
"What do you need now? We just went yesterday." I sighed.
"I need some hot chips. I don't wanna go by myself. Chile' come on." She yelled leaving the front porch.
Damn it. I sucked my teeth and went outside. The sun was beginning to set creating an orange glow in the sky. I should have put a jacket on because the warm breeze was giving me goosebumps.
"Why do you always need me to go with you?" I asked Kayla as she tapped her long pink gel nails on her glass phone screen.
"Cuz, niggas play too much at the corner store. If I got another girl with me, they won't do anything." She replied putting her phone away.
As we approached the corner store my mental alarm went off. I pulled down my shorts as far as they could go. All because the gang was littered on the steps of the store.
I stopped, "Do we really have to go in?"
A look of worry coated my face as we made our way up to the hard concrete steps. Their chatter continued and we stepped through the doors without hesitation.
The small bell chimed letting the owner know we were here. Kayla made her way to the chips aisle and I stood by the door staring at my phone.
After Kayla paid for her hot Cheetos we made our way back outside. The group of boys yelled and joked as they played a dice game. A black car was parked on the curb. Some of the boys were leaning on the car smoking a joint.
I averted my eyes. Until the window rolled down. And a deep voice shouted. Kayla and I froze. Her chewing stopped.
"What?" I asked not hearing the man the first time.
"Come here."
My face tensed, "Girl you better go!" Kayla pushed me towards the car.
I made my way to the sleek Escalade. Leaning down slightly I was able to see who was hiding inside the driver's seat. Andre Coleman.
His light skin face peaked from the darkness of the car, "Ain't you Marcus little sister?"
"Yes."
Andre laughed, "What you so standoffish for? Niggas ain't do shit to you."
"Because. You got my brother in a gang doing God knows what. I don't give a fuck about you or what the fuck you gotta say to me!" I walked away from the car and grabbed Kayla's arm.
"Sis! What did you just do? Now he's gonna come looking for you." Her eyes widened in panic.
"I don't care."
I opened the front door to my house. Momma was sitting on the couch drinking a glass of wine. She looked angry.
"Have you seen your brother?"
"No, mom. You know he out here running the streets. I'm going out, I'll be back." I said moving to the kitchen and grabbing a cold water bottle.
*****
"Fuck." I hissed as the cold air made goosebumps rise on my bare arms.
I had been waiting on this damn uber for twenty minutes. Loud groups of people crowded the parking lot as the skating session came to an end. I had just finished having fun with my friends when my brother said he wouldn't be able to come to get me.
"Girl, my dad's here I gotta go. Call me when you get home." I looked at my friend Tiana. She happily walked off to her dad's car leaving me out here.
Checking the time it was almost ten-thirty. Momma was gonna kill me. Looking at my phone again the bright screen lit up my face. My nails clicked on the glass trying to figure out what the fuck my uber was doing.
"Yo, Mia!" A voice called out.
I turned my neck to the voice with anger written all on my face. I grunted when I noticed Dre pulling up in another new car. It had to be an Audi or something of that degree. He smirked seeing me stand outside.
"Yo brother couldn't make it. So he sent me to take you home."
I glared at him, "Mhm, I don't believe you."
His nose flared, he was already irritated with me. So irritated that he parked the car and jumped out. Slightly grabbing my arm he pulled me towards the passenger side. I yelped in surprise. He opened the door and plucked me inside.
"Was this really necessary?" I questioned him as he started the car back up and quickly drove off.
"I gotta make a stop real quick."
My neck snapped to him, "No, sir! You're going to drop me off home."
"Just sit back and shut the fuck up." He barked his orders.
My hands went up in surrender. I sat back in the leather chair and inhaled the smell of his fresh car. My phone rang. I noticed it was my mother calling. Cursing slightly under my breath I slid my finger to answer the phone.
"Hello?" I said in a shaky voice.
"Where are you? You were supposed to be home thirty minutes ago." Her voice was calm and it scared me.
"Umm. My uber didn't come and Marcus never came to get me...so." I couldn't finish my sentence.
"So what?"
"Andre's taking me home."
She sighed and hung up the phone. I knew I was in a world of trouble once I got home. She never wanted me around Andre "Dre" Coleman. But, this was the way it was. Plus he wasn't that bad. Or so I thought.
We finally pulled up to the corner of some run-down neighborhood. I didn't know where we were and I didn't care. Dre reached over my lap and opened the dashboard retrieving a knife. Heat rose on my bare legs where he had touched me.
"What are you doing?" I asked as he got out of the car.
"Just stay in the car and lock the door." He walked off the end of the corner.
I squinted my eyes trying to figure out what the hell was going on. All I could see were figures talking, more like arguing. Dre was about to walk off when he pulled the knife and stabbed the young man in his chest. He fell to the ground and Dre came smoothly to the car.
We rode in silence. My heart was beating rapidly. Of course, I had seen a dead body before but that was at funerals. Not a freshly dead body that had just been stabbed to death. Dre seemed unfazed. He pulled up to my house and I could see my mother peeping out the window.
"I'm not gonna tell anybody what I saw, you know."
He turned to me, the darkness from the tint wouldn't allow me to see him clearly, "I know. Now get out."
Once again he reached over me and opened my door. The cool night air rose on my body as I stepped out of the car and shut the door. He watched me until I opened the door and drove off. My mother was sitting on the sofa smoking when I got inside. And my brother was resting on the couch with a beat-up face, again.
"Where you been?" She questioned taking a puff of her cig.
"I told you where I was." I sat my phone down on the counter.
"I hope you ain't out here fucking with the dope boy. Mia, I taught you better than that." My mother stood up from the spot on the couch and rushed towards me.
"I'm not sleeping with Dre. Geez, I'm not like Marcus all wrapped up in this gang shit. He just gave me a ride." I felt smaller and smaller.
She scoffed, "One ride turns into two and that turns into sneaking out to see him and that turns into a baby."
I rolled my eyes and left her standing in the living room. Going into Marcus's room I went to find his burner phone. I know every drug dealer has one. I found it and went straight to the contacts. I smiled when I found Dre's number. Quickly typing it into my phone I left the room and entered mine.
"Aye, Dre spin back around," I told him and he laughed.
"I thought you weren't supposed to be around me?" He questioned but I could hear his tires screech over the phone.
"Just pull up out back and hurry up. I don't want to spend another minute in this fucking house."

If you don't know who Rotimi is, he plays Andre Coleman on the hit tv series Power. That's my favorite show. Anyway, I'm talking too much. Goodbye!
