"ARGH!" Alex grunted as she threw her backpack to the floor of their apartment. Her roommate, Violet, jumped at the sound, turning away from the television to see her friend pacing in the kitchen.

"We have people living below us, you know."

"I have an asshole for a partner!"

"Sounds like your ex-boyfriend," Violet chuckled.

"I'm being serious!" Alex clenched her fists, "First day of class and he's drunk, and then he makes fun of my name."

Violet's eyebrows raised. "Wow, what a dick!"

"I swear, Violet, I'm going to beg the professor to assign me to someone else. I just can't deal with someone like that."

"I'm sure your professor will understand. Maybe."

Alex took a deep breath. "I need to go to the gym. Want to come with?"

"And be your human punching bag? No, thank you. Plus, my show just came on. Why does Vampire Diaries have to be so addicting?"

Grabbing her gym bag, she stuffed a pair of shorts, her sports bra, and her wraps.

"Probably just the secret romantic in you," Alex winked as she walked out the door.
