Chapter 1

"Seriously, congratulations you guys. I know how hard its been for you."

The sounds of fancy silverware clanging against plates rang in the background. Two couples sat at a table right in the middle of the floor. Waiters walked around refilling drinks, placing orders in front of hungry patrons. His best friend; tall, handsome, beautiful dark mahogany skin, and teeth as white and straight as ever, smiled and raised his glass.

"Thank you, Becca. We are very excited. Aria is over the moon."

"Yeah, she keeps praying for a boy." His wife laughed while picking up a bit of salad with her fork. She wore her long brown hair in a messy bun. Her blue eyes pierced through the dark ambiance. "We haven't told our parents yet."

He grinned. Two pair of matching oceanic eyes stared back. They always reminded her of Barbie and Ken. She, a Disney princess plucked right off the screen, with her curly dirty blonde hair and her dimples. She was prefect and he was her handsome counterpart. His blonde quiff, always perfectly styled. Rebecca and Scott. Scott and Becca.

They all met in college. Scott and her husband,  Kevin, were college roommates. She and Becca met in English 201. She watched as this perfect picture love story manifested itself. She was Becca's maid of honor. Kevin was Scott's best man. They helped them start their firm, the men built her coffee shop, and they attended every school event Becca put on.

"Why not?"

"Well you remember how they were about Aria. If we tell them we're pregnant, again....all hell would break loose."

He laughed his little cute laugh. It was what really caught Becca's eye at first. It had an almost feminine quality to it but was manly just the same. "That's true. Mama didn't really take it well."

"Yeah well, it's their loss. Our family is beautiful. I'm happy that's all that matters."

"Exactly." Becca chimed in grabbing her hand and squeezing it. They were interrupted by a hand being placed on her shoulder.

"Becca, Scott! Anika told me family walked in. How are you?" Standing to Becca's right stood her first cousin, Nicholas, who happened to be part owner of Ambrosia.

She stood and hugged him. He looked a lot like her. Trade hazel for blue and widen her nose a bit. But she looked like her mother who favored her brother, his father, so much people thought they were twins. Scott stood nearly 6 inches taller than mostly everyone, Nick included.

"Hey man, nice place you got here." They hugged and Scott sat down but not before noticing a band setting up on the stage. "Kirstin still singing?"

"Yeah, man. I had to promise to let her perform once we opened. Ya know, keep it in the family."

Kevin took a sip of his drink. "Are they any good?"

"You know, I can't lie. They're pretty good and I'm not just saying it because she's my wife." He laughed

The group turned and watched. A vision in a white off the shoulder gown, Nick's wife grabbed the microphone. She was a Texas-born princess. Her jet black hair pulled into a curly bun was accented by the dangle-y pearl earrings. Her big brown doe-like eyes sparkled in the dim candlelight.

"Hello, my name is Kirstin Maldonado-Foster. On the drum machine and vocals, we have Matt Sallee. On piano and sharing lead vocals, the genius, the myth, the only reason we sound so good: Mitch Grassi." She take a break to laugh at the blush upon her friend's face. "We are Le Armonia."

*The beginning of Be My Eyes by Pentatonix begins.*

"Little white horses on carousels and quicksand
Am I one of you or one of them?
Television dulls my senses and reactions
I can't seem to find my way again."

The band sings, the group of friends smile at the look of adoration on Nick's face. "Yo, they're really good." Kevin says grabbing Leigh's hand and twirling her around.

"They are, aren't they?"

Becca puts her head on Nick's shoulder, "where did she meet them?"

"Dougie's sister introduced us to her boyfriend, Matt. He's pretty cool, went to school to be a engineer and decided halfway through he'd rather sing. Mitch and Kirstin go way back. They grew up together in Dallas. She begged him to come out here. He works as a freelance photographer and painter by day, is an amazing singer and piano player by night."

Kevin was mesmerized by the way Matt kept hitting the pads. He was dark, lighter than him though. Of average height, there was a way he'd smile when back at his band mates that said he was just happy to be there.

Scott immediately found himself captivated by the small brown haired man on the piano and immediately hated himself for it. He had been good. It had been years since his unnecessary crush on Kevin. He had moved past his inhuman feelings but this man was tickling some fancy he had put behind him.

He was short and thin. He had very Italian like features that made Scott feel like he was back in Milan, on his honeymoon with Becca. His dimples were reminiscent of the dimples that lined his wife's face. Short brown hair lined his forehead. He'd smile every now and then and it would make his heart race.

"I can get caught up on little things and missteps
You rebuild the ground beneath my feet
When I get lost, I'm out of my mind, too in my head
You're the camera to refocus me.

The stranger that I call joy is
Who you are when I'm too far down (too far down)
When there's so many inside voices (inside voices) calling
Where do I, where do I run right now?"

Periodically, this voice flowed through the speakers. It rattled his insides and made him nervous. It came from this man playing the piano and making eyes to the crowd.

Becca turned around and watched her husband stare. Thankfully, she thought he was staring at Kirstin. "Babe, wipe the side of your mouth; you're drooling."

He looked down at her intensely, "what?"

"You're staring."

She giggled as he blushed and scratched the back of his head. "Yeah, sorry."

"'Is okay. She's very pretty. But she's married to my cousin and you're mine."
She turned and caught Leigh looking at her. She grinned while turning around.

As the night dragged on, music flowed through speakers. The friends enjoyed their dinner, making small chit-chat with each other.

Before they left, Scott and Kevin traded punches, Kevin noticed the stare session too. Becca and Leigh promised to grab lunch the next day to talk babies. All the while this angelic voice played in the background. Luring him to the edge of the earth.
