Chapter 9

(A/n I know that a couple of chapters ago I gave Nina a face claim but honestly, just imagine her however you want." I'm not certain I will continue using the face claim when it comes to describing her, etc but if it helps you dope! Anyway enjoy 😉 )

The jet landed back home after the case. The relief of the team was obvious. Everyone wanted to go home and see their families.

Nina bid everyone a good night and quick hugs before rushing off to catch the 9o'clock bus.
Her keys jingle as she unlocks the front door to her aunts house.
Now ,Nina knows that being 24 and still living at home wasn't ideal but with her Aunt still paying off the Mortgage and Nina's other half of her college bursary not to mention all the everyday things that come with caring for two kids, she knew her Aunt couldn't afford to pay for Ethan's medical bills, so she cancelled her lease on her old place in New York and moved back to Quantico with her aunt, got a job and helped as much as she could.

"Nina, I didn't hear you come in." Aunt Jean says from the kitchen, a glass of wine in hand, looking tired but happy to see her niece nonetheless.
Discarding her go-bag she pulls her Aunt into a tight hug. "I've missed you." She mumbles.
Her Aunt gives her a squeeze.
"I know, Superstar." Nina hadn't heard the childhood nickname in a while.
"The kids are in bed, Ethan's been doing better everyday, the doctor says that they'll be able to stop Chemo in a month." Nina couldn't suppress her smile. She was thrilled her little brother was finally gonna he able to live life like a normal 12 year old.
Her Aunt smiles back at her, "I'm off to bed, I'm opening up the diner tomorrow morning."

"Okay." Nina says softly as her Aunt closes her bedroom door.
Nina checks in on Ethan and Hope, giving them both soft kisses on the crown of their heads as the slept soundly. She was so glad they were okay. After everything that had happened she was scared that something could happen to her family.

As she sat on her sofa, starting her second glass of wine, her thoughts drifted to Spencer.
She knew he didn't have anyone waiting at home for him. She knew his mom lived far away and that he didn't have a family here. She felt sad suddenly, that no one was with him after everything that had happened to the team.

So maybe it was the two glasses of wine ,the fact that she wanted to see Spencer regardless of the time or that she was convincing herself that he would want someone to talk to.
But she got up and practically ran out the door.

After a very uncomfortable ride on the metro where she was pretty sure her taser had become imbedded in her hand, she arrived in-front of Spencer's apartment. The slight buzz from the wine was starting to wear off as she realised she'd never been to Spencer's apartment.
What if he thought she was weird for showing up here at Eleven o'clock at night.
What if he was sleeping and she woke him up?
What if he had A GIRLFRIEND and didn't even need her company like she needed his. No, he would have mentioned a girlfriend to her, she thought to herself.
But what if even if he didn't have anyone he still thought she was weird.

God, she was stupid. Of course he wouldn't want to see her, he probably wasn't desperate for company like she was and he definitely didn't like her the way she liked him, even if it was slightly less platonic than Nina would wish it to be, she had grown quite attached to Spencer, she loved talking to him and listening to his rants. Because even though Nina had her Aunt and her siblings, she often felt lonely, like she couldn't talk about what happens at work or her fears and dreams with them, they needed her to be strong, even when she wasn't.

Just as she was about to turn back, she saw a light turn on in the second floor apartment, Spencer's apartment.

She watched his silhouette pace and run his hands through his hair.

'Fuck it', she thought and rang the doorbell next to his name. Dr.S. Reid. Written in his almost illegible handwriting, it made her smile.

Opening his door, Spencer was very confused as to who was at his door this late at night.

The last person he'd expected was the person he was just dreaming about.

Of course the dream had started out like the last two dreams he'd had about her ,he was ashamed to say, hot and heavy.
Besides he wasn't even sure if he actually had a crush on Nina or if his subconscious was just horny and lonely and knew that Nina was certainly the most beautiful that had ever shown any interest in Spencer, even platonically.
(A/n very light smut starts here)
The dream:
"Fuck, Spencer." A breathy moan escaped Nina's lips as he kissed his way down her chest. He could feel her arousal practically leak out of her, his fingers thrusting deep inside her.
"Shit, baby" he groaned, his hard dick rubbing against her thigh giving him some relief . "All this for me?" He curled his fingers inside her, hitting the spot that made her come undone on top of him.
Her nails duh into his shoulders and her whole body shook, her mouth made a perfect little 'oh' shape and her eyes snapped to his.
He almost came just by watching her.
Her big brown eyes shining with lust, her cheeks flushed, a sheen of sweat making her glow.
"Spencer," She breathes out.
The scene changes
"Spencer." She says, this time her voice was not raspy with lust, it was shaky and scared like she had been crying.
"Spencer please, help me." He looked up to see her, Foyet standing behind her a gun pressed to her temple with a sadistic grin on his face.
Spencer watched as he pulled the trigger, Nina's body crumpling to the ground.
He felt the scream tear through his throat.

He woke with a start, the scream still echoing around his room.
Getting up, he turned on the light in his living room and frowned, running his hands through his messy hair. Well, that was certainly a boner-killer. He sighed, just as he was about to put on a coffee pot he heard his doorbell ring.

And here he was, with Nina standing in front of him, in a big hoodie and leggings, hair slightly disheveled, bags under her eyes, nervously twirling her thumbs.
"Nina?" He couldn't stop the question leaving his mouth as he looked at her confused.

"I'm sorry, I just didn't know who else to talk to and I was thinking of you, I didn't really think about what I was doing, I was just gonna leave but then I saw your light turn on and thought-" Nina's rambling was cut off by her being pulled into a warm hug, Spencer bending down , practically nestling his face into the crook and of her neck.
He tightened his grip on her as she runs her fingers through his hair soothingly. They stood like that for a good two minutes in Spencer's doorway.
Nina didn't mind, all her nerves from a second ago vanished. she knew he needed her right now, just as much as she needed him. Besides, she liked that way he felt pressed up against her, his breath softly tickling her throat, making goosebumps breakout on her skin.
She pushed those thoughts down, her silly little crush on Spencer wasn't important right now.

Slowly detangling himself from Nina, Spencer gave her a small, embarrassed smile. He didn't know what came over him but in that moment, after what he'd just dreamed (the murder part not the other thing, obviously) he just needed to make sure she was real, that she was okay.
Clearing his throat He says " I was going to make some coffee, do you want some?"

Nina's face breaks into a smile, "You know, that's my line." She giggles.
Spencer feels any awkwardness leave the room and gestures for her to come inside.

Nina had never seen a room that screamed 'Spencer' more than his apartment did.

Bookshelves lined the walls overflowing with books. Everything orderly except for the go-bag and satchel dumped at his front door and the few papers on a desk in the corner and a couple of books lying around.

"Sit on the couch, I'll get started on the coffee" Spencer says, quickly moving two thick books off the one end of the sofa.

Nina sat on the couch and watched as Spencer made coffee in his kitchen.
He was wearing a CalTech t-shirt and plaid PJ pants.
Nina watched his back muscles move through the shirt, although Spencer was a slender-build, you could see the definition of his muscles through this T-shirt, Nina decidedly really liked this shirt.

"Did you know Beethoven was such an ardent coffee lover that he'd count 60 beans per cup before making his brew." Spencer said, breaking the comfortable silence.

"You really do know everything." Nina looks at him in awe.

"Sorry" Spencer apologizes sheepishly.

"Don't apologize , I guess I'm just a little bummed out that when I tell you something, you'll already know." Nina says to him taking the coffee mug that Spencer hands her.

"Worlds sexiest Contractor." She reads what's printed on the mug aloud. A snort leaves her before she can stop it, causing her to blush deep red.

Spencer grins at her, his cheeks also flushed because in his rush to get Nina her coffee he'd grabbed one of the mugs he'd bought at a yard sale without thinking.

"Yeah, there was a box of old mugs at a yard sale when I first moved in here." He says with a chuckle.

"Wait, so you're telling you're not the worlds sexiest contractor?" Nina looks at him with fake shock," unbelievable, and here I thought I was with an honest man." She giggles her own joke. Spencer can't help but laugh along, her laugh was infectious.

"I know, I'm so sorry but I've been living a lie, all I ever wanted was to be the worlds sexiest contractor but that's just not me." Spencer shoots back at her with a fake dramatic sigh, sending them both into peals of laughter, sleepiness making them both a little bit delusional.

"You know," Spencer starts after catching his breath from laughing so hard, "you do know things that I don't know." He tells her, watching how she tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"Oh yeah? I highly doubt that." Nina says, giving him a bright smile and fluttering her eyelashes softly , that made Spencers heart beat like he just ran a marathon.

"Well, I don't know that much about you, so you can start there." He says, looking at her like whatever she'd say next was the answer to solving the universes problems.

"You want to know about me?" Nina asks, as if it was the most shocking thing in the world that Spencer would want to know more about her. But Spencer was pretty sure that if there was a book about everything about Nina Charleston he'd want to memorize it, even if he didn't have an Eidetic memory.

"Why wouldn't I? I like what I've learnt so far." Spencer answers her like she's just asked the simplest question ever. Nina couldn't help a blush crawling up her cheeks or her palms sweating, because even though Spencer didn't know it, the way Spencer had said that so genuinely had just confirmed to Nina what she was very afraid of.

She had feelings for Spencer, not just a silly crush on a handsome coworker, but real feelings.

'Oh fuck, I like him.' Nina gulped at the thought. She pushes it away and clears her throat.

"Okay, I'll tell you something you don't know." Nina says fully turning her body towards Spencer's and their eyes locked.

She really was totally screwed by her own stupid feelings.
