Hey guys thanks so much for reading my book!!!

I jolted awake and looked around frantically, making sure the house was intact. I sighed in relief when everything was normal and flopped back down. Today was a big day, a very big day. Today was the day that I put part two of my plan into action. There was a lot to be done and so little time, but at least I have help.
"Ray are you up?" I called out from my bundle of fluffy blankets.
"Ya." I heard her say from the living room.
I sighed and sadly untangled myself from the comfortable fluffy pile. I looked down and realised I was still wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt, so I decided to stay in those clothes for now. I walked into the living room and flopped down onto the couch. Ray was sitting in a recliner organising all her makeup. Really?
"Makeup?" I asked curiously as she started putting it away.
"What? I'm not going to just leave my makeup behind. I spent money on this and I might as well look good surviving." She said before putting it in her backpack.
I sighed and shook my head at her. She was something else sometimes.
"We need to get started on our jobs. We have one day to get everything packed up and ready." I declared as she groaned.
"What do I need to do?" She asked while stretching.
"Sorting canned food downstairs and finding all foods that are not perishable." I explained before standing up and walking to the window.
"And you?" She asked curiously.
I sighed and ran a hand through my hair.
"I need to go through the clothes since you don't know what to get. I also need to find weapons and survival items. My most important job though, involves me going outside." I listed as peeked through the blinds.
No-one was in the neighborhood. I saw no signs of life, but I knew there were probably still people on the interstate.
"What? Are you crazy? What for?" She asked worriedly.
"We need a better car and I think I'm going to steal one from that car dealership by Family Fare." I said as walked to my room.
If I was going to do this I needed to prepare for the worst. Ray sighed as she followed me to my room. I grabbed a camo shirt and some black leggings before ushering my sister out. I quickly changed and grabbed my tennis shoes before opening the door.
"Are you walking or driving to Family Fare?" Ray asked as I walked towards the garage.
"You're insane if you think I'm going to walk there. That would be thirteen minutes of pure anxiety." I said before grabbing a flashlight.
I then switched it on and looked around the garage for the weapon I wanted. I needed something a little better than a screwdriver or plane old tool. Bingo! A silver hatchet was hanging on the wall by my grandpa's tool belt. I grabbed it and swung it a little, surprisingly it was rather easy to use.
"Whoa." Ray said while taking a step back.
"I need to get going so we have plenty of time to fill up the car. You can get started and keep a weapon on you. Don't let anyone inside the house, unless it's an absolute emergency and you can trust them. Be safe." I said before unlocking my car.
I pulled up the garage door before jumping into my car quickly. I realised I was quite lucky that I have a full tank of gas. Hopefully the dealership cars do too. I backed out quickly so Ray could shut the door. Once the garage door was down, I drove down the block and turned right.
I noticed how dead the neighborhood looked. You could tell everyone left in a rush, since some houses have their
doors wide open. I jumped when I thought I saw a person but they disappeared around a corner. I wonder if they were infected?
It only took 3 minutes to get to the dealership. It was a small family owned one, but it was a reliable one. They sold good cars and were friendly people. I parked in front and grabbed my hatchet. Once I stepped outside I listened for anything out of place. Everything was silent except for a few birds. I looked at the cars and looked for the perfect one. I knew we would need something that wasn't small and could hold a lot. A pick up?
I scanned the pickup trucks and then smiled. There was a nice silver one with two seats in the front and three seats in the backseat. It was a newer model from 2015 and had a full tank of gas. I read the number on the tag before walking up to the door and reaching for the handle. It wouldn't budge, of course it would be locked.
I sighed and looked around the windows for an opening. I ended up finding the office with all the keys. The window was locked, but the keys were right on the other side. I knew what I had to do. I looked around quickly before taking my hatchet and smashing the glass. I quickly grabbed the keys and ran to the truck. I jumped inside before groaning in annoyance. I left the supplies in the trunk of my car. I start the truck and drove up to my car. Then I quickly opened my trunk and put the supplies in my new truck and shutting the back. I heard a weird sound a block away that cut through the silence. It was a groaning and then it started growling. I ran to the drivers seat of the truck and sped away.
I sighed in relief as I pulled into our driveway.
I quickly opened the garage door before running to my truck and parking it inside. After closing the garage door, I looked around the garage to find any more useful weapons or tools.
I found a tool box with all the basic tools and decided to keep it in case I needed to fix something. I also found a couple roles of duct tape. Who couldn't use duct tape? I scanned the shelves when I saw a gas can. That is super handy. I picked it up and realised it was full, my grandma must of filled it recently. After putting that all in the bed of the truck, I went inside.
I noticed all the canned food from downstairs was now upstairs. Ray was sitting at the table sorting it. She looked up at me and smiled.
"I'm guessing you were successful?" She asked as she organised.
"Ya, I got us a silver pickup truck." I said before grabbing a flashlight.
I went into the attic and turned on the flashlight. Looking around I found a couple more back packs. I saw some plastic tubs as well and decided we could use those for the food. I crawled through the low space and searched for my dads rifle. I knew grandpa had it tucked away with amo up here. If I had one gun I could scare off any unwanted people.
Once I found it, I headed down to the main floor and placed the plastic tubs in the kitchen.
"I was thinking we could use these for the food." I explained to Ray as she nodded in understanding.
I took the back packs and went to Ray's room first. Going through all her clothes for suitable ones wasn't hard. She had a couple pairs of good clothes which were sport shorts, leggings, t-shirts, undergarments, socks, and PJs. I sighed and went to my room next.
Finding my stuff was easier since I knew what to grab and where it was. All in all I had three bags of clothes, seeing as Anna might need some as well. She's a stylish person, so she won't have a lot of regular clothes.
I grabbed the bags and made my way to the kitchen before setting them down. Ray had all the canned and nonperishable food organised. We put it all in the three plastic tubs and set them by the garage door.
"We should load the truck now." I said before opening the door and grabbing a tub.
With the light of a flashlight we began to put stuff in the bed of the truck. The three tubs were first, then clothes, blankets, pillows, tools, cookware, toiletries, and water.
It took us a while to gather everything but we were finally done. The stuff only filled about half the truck so we would have plenty of room for more stuff later on. I sighed in relief, but it was short lived as my stomach rumbled.
"I think maybe it's time for some dinner." I spoke as Ray followed me to the kitchen.
The bread was still good, so we grabbed some bread and jelly. The jelly was Luke warm, but we couldn't be picky. With everything that is happening, it might be a while till we have decent food again. The sun was setting and I knew I would need to take up watch soon. Ray looked rather tired, so I sent her to bed.
With my flashlight in hand, I looked at the map in front of me. After I picked Anna up we would need to escape to the country. Since Omaha was on the Nebraska-Iowa border, I could head west to the farmlands of Nebraska. Then we could find a place to stay safely as this all hopefully blows over.
I closed the map and walked to the garage. After tucking the map into the door compartment, I locked the truck and went inside. As I headed to bed I peaked out the window. What I saw confused me. The cars that were the interstate the night before with their headlights on, we're now dark. Not a single car had it's headlights on. Where did they all go? Did they just run out of gas or did something happen? I shook it off and headed to my room.
It took forever for 3am to come around. I just drew some sketches in my notebook and thought about tomorrow. Once Raven took over watch I was out like a light.
My dreamless sleep was then interrupted when Ray shook me awake. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 7am. I nodded to Ray before getting up and putting my long brown hair in a ponytail. We both ate another piece of bread before getting ready to leave.
I wrote a note to our grandparents in case they ever made home. It told them that we would be going out into the country. I also promised them that I would keep Ray and Anna safe.
After taping the note to the fridge and grabbing my backpack we headed to the truck. I placed my bag in the backseat before starting the car. Ray actually got into the backseat and buckled up.
"I feel safer in the backseat. Anna can have the front." She explained while setting her bag in front of her on the floor.
I nodded and got out quickly to open the garage, then got back into the car. I backed out, closed the garage, and drove off. I noticed more crazed people walking around now. I was horrified when I saw one missing an arm. How can they do that?
Ray shut her eyes and refused to look at the people. I sped down the block before turning right. Anna's house is in the opposite direction of the interstate so we'd be fine. It only took fifteen minutes to get to her house. Along the way I'd seen many crazed people and all of then had horrifying injuries. They would have huge gashes in their body or huge cuts. It didn't seem like they were bleeding. Most of the wounds were there but no blood would flow out. I pondered over it, but pushed it aside when I pulled into Anna's driveway backwards. This way we could escape easier and be able to put supplies in the back.
I turned the car off before running up the steps to the front door. Ray followed closely behind and we ran inside. I locked the door behind me and turned to face an emotional Anna. She had tears of joy forming in the corner of her eyes. I grinned and pulled her into a hug.
"Don't worry. I'm here now and I'll get us somewhere safe." I assured to her.
In that moment, I knew I had to protect these two with everything I had.
