EIGHT. happiness
ALEENA AND Maya had been dating for quite some time now, but for some odd reason, Maya was nervous to invite Aleena to her mother's wedding.
She had a lot going on and didn't want to bother Aleena. She was nervous that the wedding would be canceled and that Shawn wouldn't stay. Maya didn't have as much hope for this wedding as she imagined and it sucked. She knew it sucked that she felt this way and she wanted to believe that Shawn wouldn't up and leave her like her father had... but something inside her kept telling her that he would.
But if the wedding did happen, she wanted Aleena to be there.
Maya heavily sighed and knocked on the apartment door of the York's and waited patiently for what she hoped to be Aleena to answer the door, but alas, when the door opened, Aleena's sister, Ayesha opened the door and smiled at the blonde girl.
"Um, hi." Maya smiled awkwardly. "Is Aleena home?"
Ayesha nodded and stepped to the side to allow Maya inside.
"Leena!" Ayesha called. "Maya's here!"
Maya heard a door open quickly and footsteps heavily coming down the stairs.
Aleena peered around the corner and gestured for Maya to follow behind her.
The blonde turned, waving at Ayesha who sat back down on the couch.
Aleena's sister sent Maya a small wave as she turned her attention back toward the show she'd been watching before she arrived.
As Maya followed Aleena upstairs and towards her bedroom, she took notice of the pictures that lined the walls. Baby pictures of Aleena and her siblings, her parents on their wedding day, and photos of Aleena's siblings graduating high school. Just picture after picture that seemed to never end.
Soon enough, Maya found herself in Aleena's bedroom and it was a stark contrast from her own and Riley's, but that's not what she was there for, to Maya, it would be better to talk about why she chose to have her walls painted a dark gray than talk about this wedding that was peering its ugly head around the corner.
Aleena turned in her steps and sat down on her bed, a small smile on her lips as she looked up at Maya. "What's wrong?" She asked.
"There's nothing wrong." Maya answered.
"Oh come on, Hart. I know you. Is it the wedding?"
Maya furrowed her brows. "How do you know about the wedding?"
Aleena smiled. "Charlie is nosey. He gets the information you and your friends and he's spilling his guts out to me later."
Maya sighed and joined Aleena's side on the bed. "I was going to tell you-"
"You don't have to tell me anything that you don't want to Maya."
Maya turned, giving Aleena a small smile. "I want Shawn to stay. But what if he doesn't?"
"What if he does?" Aleena asked. "I don't think Shawn is like your dad, Maya, not from what you've told me. He seems like a nice guy who cares about your mom and you. You're lucky to have a guy like Shawn in your life."
Maya sighed. "Have your parents always been married?"
Aleena nodded. "They met in college, clicked, and have been together ever since. But you can't compare my parent's relationship to yours. I know it's not easy, but there's a positive in this and you know it."
"My whole life is going to change."
"For the better." Aleena smiled, taking her hand. "You deserve happiness and you know that you want it. So don't push it away."
"You've been really nice to me since we started dating." Maya smiled.
"It's 'cause I like you good." Aleena said, returning the smile.
"You're also invited to Riley's for a sleepover tonight."
Aleena smiled. "Don't push it."
THE WEDDING came around a lot sooner than Aleena imagined. The wedding had been moved up and now the girl found herself sitting behind Riley's little brother, Auggie, and his "girlfriend" Ava.
The ceremony went out and now Katy and Shawn were married.
The group made their way upstairs and into Riley's bedroom.
Aleena had been the last one to enter the bedroom, standing at the doorway as the others gathered around Riley's bay window.
Aleena held a soft, almost awkward smile as she held her hands behind her back. She had never been in Riley's room let alone the Matthews's apartment. This was unfamiliar territory and she had been locked in all because she was in a relationship with Maya Hart. But, because of that, she sucked it up for the time being.
Katy, with the widest smile, turned towards the door. "Thank you for coming, Aleena."
Aleena nodded. "Thank you for having me. It was a beautiful service and I'm thankful that I was a part of it."
Maya happily stood to her feet and made her way over to Aleena. She grabbed her hand and gave the girl a bright smile.
"Thank you." Maya whispered, resting her head on Aleena's shoulder.
Aleena chuckled and pressed her cheek against Maya's head.
Overall, a 10 out of 10 wedding.
