This isn't us

Jessica felt guilty for not answering Sarah's phone calls and texts messages, but Sarah really hurt her, and she just wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine.

It was after dinner and the baby's were content with Jessica's family.
Danny noticed that Jessica's phone kept ringing every few minutes, and Jessica would immediately decline it.

"Jessica, what are you doing?"

"Nothing, why?"

"Let me see your phone?"

"Use yours!" Jessica gets an attitude with him.

"Who are you messaging?"

"No one."

"Let me see your phone."

Jessica rolls her eyes and hands him her cell phone.

"Jess, Sarah's called you like fifty times! Why aren't you answering her?"

"Because she hurt my feelings! Why does she want to talk now?"

"Jessica, I understand what Sarah did was hurtful, but you have to understand that she was in a bad place. Don't be too upset with her. Hear her out"

"I guess I should.. Next time she calls, I'll answer."

"Why don't you call her back now?"

"I said, Next time she calls, I'll answer."

"Okay."

**

The rest of the night Jessica held her phone in her hand waiting for it to ring, but it didn't.

Jessica was sitting on a couch in her room holding Eliana who had woken up during the night, but quickly fell asleep after a short feeding.

Danny and Emilia were still sleeping peacefully.

It was 3:00 in the morning and Jessica couldn't get herself to fall asleep. She just kept thinking of what could be wrong. Even though it was late Jessica decided to call Sarah.

It went straight to voicemail so Jessica left a message.

"Hey Sarah.... I'm sorry for not answering you today.. The twins are sick and.. *Sighs* It's been a crazy day... *Clears throat* Well anyway! Uh, sorry for calling so late. Call me in the morning and we can talk.... I hope you're doing well.. Buh-bye... Oh! And um.. I love you.. Bye.."

Jessica hangs the phone up and covers her mouth to quiet the sobs that were trying to escape.

Danny heard her muffled noises and woke up.

"Jess?" He says in a groggy voice looking in her direction.

"Hm? Oh.. Go back to bed, baby.. I just had to feed Lainey."

"Are you crying?"

"No.."

"Yes you are. Sweetie, what's wrong?"

"Sarah never called me back, so I called her and she didn't answer."

"When did you call?"

"Just right now."

"Well baby.. It's three in the morning." He says looking at the clock on his nightstand.

"I know, but.. I just feel bad." She cries.

"Don't get upset, you're gonna make the girls sad too." Danny says getting up and taking Elaina from her to put in the bassinet.

Danny walks back and holds her hand for her to stand up. He sits down and Jessica sits on his lap. She cuddles into his chest and cries.

"I feel horrible. I should have just answered. I knew she was going through a hard time, and I was just being a brat!"

"You're not a brat, honey. Your feelings were hurt, that's understandable. Plus we were busy with the twins all day."

"Danny, Sarah is my sister.. We've been friends forever that we're more than just friends.. You don't turn your back on family. I should have kept calling, I should have known she was leaving early! Danny, I'm not a good friend."

"You're a great friend! Now, in the morning when Sarah calls you, or you call her, you two are going to talk this all out and everything will be okay!"

Jessica sniffles, then grabs his shirt to wipe her nose.

"Now you're acting like the girls getting boogers all over me!" He jokes making her laugh.

"Why are you even wearing a shirt? I like it when you only sleep in your underwear." She says cuddling him.

"Oh you're the only one that can wear clothes to bed?"

"No! *Laughs* You just never wear a shirt."

"I wanted to try something different."

She giggles and Danny kisses the top of her head.

"You wanna go to bed?"

"No, I'm comfortable like this."

Jessica was comfortable, but Danny was not. As long as Jessica was happy, Danny didn't mind being a little uncomfortable.

The next morning Jessica was able to take a shower before the girls woke up.
She was even able to get dressed for the day, which was great since she rarely ever gets to accomplish that so early in the day.

Once she was ready, she checked on the girls, and they were still out, so Jessica went downstairs and got a hot cup of tea.

Before everyone came down for breakfast, she decided to sit on the porch and call Sarah.

It rang quite a few times, which really upset her. She figured Sarah would go back to ignoring her phone calls. Then suddenly the ringing stopped.

"... Hello?"

"Sarah! Oh my gosh, hi!"

"Hey.. Sorry I didn't answer, I was asl-"

"It was late, it's okay! I was up with one of the girls, then she fell asleep and I was up thinking.. Thinking about us and how-"

"How this isn't us." Sarah finishes.

"Exactly! Sarah, I'm so sorry."

"No Jess, I'm the one that should apologize. I'm sorry I lied to you about when I was leaving. I was afraid that you would pressure me into telling Evan, and talking about my whole situation really... Well I just couldn't do it right now."

"I would have understood that, Sarah!"

"I just had to get away.."

"And that's okay. I have to admit, I was hurt, but it's okay! You just scared the shit out of me that day you left."

"I know, my mom told me. *Chuckles* Thank you for caring about me, Jess."

"Don't thank me, honey! That's what sisters are for."

"Yeah.. They are.
..So how are the girls? You said they're sick?"

"Yeah, they have their first little colds!"

"Aw poor babies!"

"I know, and they each got three shots!"

"Oh no! Well give them extra kisses from me!"

"I will!
How are you?"

"I'm well! I um.. Well I have a lot to talk to you about when I get home." You could hear the excitement in Sarah's voice.

"Ooh! Did you meet a man already?"

"Hey, my lips are sealed! I want to see the look on your face when I tell you!"

"I feel like that's a yes, bitch!"

"It's a nothing!"

"Uh-huh, I knew you'd meet a guy!"

"I cannot confirm nor deny that right now."

"Mhm!"

"Oh unpurse your lips!"

"How did you know?" Jessica laughs.

"Because I KNOW YOU!"

Jessica laughs and hears the front door open.

"Sorry to interrupt, but she's crying!" Danny whispers.

"It's okay, give her to me.
Emi, what's wrong, Princess?"

"She misses her aunt Sarah."

"Haha!  I think she does!"

"Heh!  Jess, I have to go.  I'll text you, okay?"

"Yeah, okay.  Call me later tonight!"

"I will."

"I love you, Sarah."

"I love you too, sis."

Jessica smiles and hangs the phone up.

She looks down at Emilia and giggles.

"Mommy's so happy, little one!
I know you don't care, you just want to be fed, don't you?" She laughs.
