Chapter One
also known as; first encounters
Sally had always had a strange relationship with her parents. Unlike most of her friends, her mom and dad were still very much together, something they all seemed to envy.
But actually sometimes Sally wondered whether having divorced parents was the better option, the easier option. The Cinnamon's home was a constant battle ground, filled with arguments and fights. Both of them blaming the young redhead for their issues because without her there would be no reason for them to still be together.
Which is why it helped that she'd somehow landed her dream job, as it meant she now had an excuse for always being out.
The skate shop she worked at didn't have the greatest trade, in other words, the place was completely empty most days. But Sally didn't mind that, she wasn't there for the money she was there as a getaway.
Today she wasn't so lucky, and as she watched a group of teenage boys appear outside the shop door she couldn't help but sigh, pushing the work she was doing under the table she was sat at.
They enter one by one, two holding boards the other two not. They looked like a strange mixture, like they didn't actually belong together. But judging by how much they were talking that would be the wrong assumption. The group were huddled in the corner of the store bickering in a hushed tone, every now and then they would look up at the redhead before beginning to bicker again.
She had seen two of the boys before, they came into the shop pretty regularly actually, normally just coming to look at the boards or shirts and then leaving without saying anything. The other two boys were not the usual type of people you would expect in a skate shop one dorky with curly hair and chunky braces, the other was harder to describe the only word Sally could think of was dickhead, major dickhead. In the short time he had been in the shop she had came to this conclusion, he was loud and had an extremely annoying laugh, the cigarette behind his ear making him look like even more of a twat than he already did.
"Christ," Sally mumbled to herself before getting up and making her way over to the group who still hadn't seemed to notice her approaching.
"Can I help you with something?" She spoke up from behind them smugly raising her eyebrow as she watched them jump in shock.
"Fucking hell," One boy mumbled from the back of the group while the other burst into that loud obnoxious laugh that made her roll her eyes.
"Hi, can you do anything about this?" A taller boy asked handing over a board that had been snapped in two.
"I don't think there's any saving that guy," She laughed, it was completely fucked in other words, she began to walk back to the counter dumping the broken board onto it before turning back to the group.
"Do you want a new one?" She asked lazily pointing to the variety of boards that were displayed behind her, this was the first real business she'd had in days and though she would never admit it she was secretly enjoying it.
"Can I keep the wheels?"
"Sure,"
"What deck do you want?" She asked beginning to unscrew the wheels from his old board, allowing him to grab one and pass it over to her while she did so. There was an awkward silence quickly falling over the group, the boys began bickering again.
"Ok, this'll take about ten minutes,"
"Cool,"
"Alright mate we'll be back in ten then," One spoke up and the group were quickly trailing out the door before he could object leaving him stood at the counter silently waiting for the girl to finish.
"Did you do this?" She asked noticing the intricate patterns that littered the back of the busted board.
"Yes,"
"Cool,"
"You think? I did it a couple of years ago this one will be way better, I'll to come show you once I'm done,"
"Hmm maybe," Sally mumbled not fully paying attention to the boy who had began to ramble on, instead she began finishing screwing his wheels back on ignoring the obvious stare he was giving her. She would have usually glared back but he was a customer and well that would probably be slightly mean she supposed, though that had never stopped her before.
"Do you do this a lot?" He asked shoving his hands into his back pockets as he began to lean back on his heals.
"What?" She asked sharply looking up at the boy who looked completely dumbfounded by her reaction even if it was completely fucking stupid.
"You know make boards?"
"It's my job."
"Right, yes that makes sense," He nodded a stupid dopey grin on his face that made Sally roll her eyes yet again.
"I'm Elias," It was becoming very clear to Sally that this boy, Elias, liked to talk like a lot. When Sally was passionate about something you really couldn't shut her up but Elias on the other hand just seemed to be talking for the sake of talking. Though she usually wouldn't mind, at this very moment she was trying her best to concentrate on not completely fucking up his board while she listened to him natter on about, well, nothing.
"Sally," She mumbled not looking back up to the boy knowing that would only fuel him to open his mouth once more, instead she just waited till he got bored and started looking through the racks of t-shirts at the other end of the store.
"I'm finished." She mumbled dropping the screwdriver onto the table before making her way over to the till beginning to tap in numbers into the machine.
"Cool cool," He grinned sliding a few notes across the counter and grabbing the board before slowly making his way to the door.
"Maybe I'll see you around then Sally?"
"Maybe," She spoke forcing a tight lipped smile so she didn't come off as a total bitch, it wasn't that this guy was bad he was fine. But she just didn't see the need in making friends she had two already. Did she really need anymore? No.
With that he stumbled out of the door and Sally was finally left in peace again.
