α]The Packs[α
~[α]~
I really wanted to make a page to honour our very own Spoony and her dedication to her OCs (I also promised her), so here's the story of the Buckingham Pack, their symbols and history.
[For Canon Character pack symbols, see the header of this chapter.]
Enjoy!!!

The Buckinghams:
{Symbols}
The Knot of Four
(For fictional purposes...)
This represents the Buckingham Family and is the ancient symbol of the pack.
The Mind, The Body, The Heart and The Soul.
They intertwine in the middle, representing The Being.
The Being is encompassed by a circle (the moon), representing The Being's power from the moon and the moon runs through all four components, which means the moon is a part of them.
The Trinity Knot
This is the symbol in current use by the Buckinghams.
It was changed after a great change within the family and when that change caused a deep grief in the youngest sister.
The trinity knot represents The Mind, The Heart and The Body.
The Soul isn't present as The Being can go on without it.
However, The Being can't survive without The Mind, The Body or The Heart.
It also represents the unity of family: Blood, Trust and Strength, which then gives Sanctuary.

{History}
The Buckingham family and pack, are amongst the most notorious and respected packs; powerful and influential even before they were werewolves - though back then it was with money and status, rather than supernatural power. They can be found around Europe, but they originate and mostly inhabit Britain.
The Buckinghams have a history stretching back centuries; the first to be turned into a werewolf was Edgar de Vere - Earl of Oxford back in 1575. They have their own stories and legends, concerning their ancestors and alphas - who are very prominent figures. Whether it be Sage Buckingham, who used his keen mind to ease the building of war between packs, or Thorn Buckingham, whose strength had him defeat a squadron of hunters, in defence of his Kanima lover - whom he also had to fend off.
There's also the legend of the Buckingham Alpha's curse - the idea that eventually every alpha or soon to be alpha of the Buckingham Pack becomes corrupted by its power or loses everything to its power.
As it is in the latest generation of the Buckinghams.
Pride, Loss and Unyielding Ambition:
Canus and Wilhelmina Buckingham, were the leaders of the pack - Canus being the alpha. When it came to the next line of Buckinghams, they had hoped to produce a son to pass the alpha spark onto when the time was right. However, when they only birthed daughters - much to their frustration - Canus decided that when it came to choosing an heir, he'd let his two eldest prove who was the best amongst them.
Antonia, the eldest daughter, could have been perceived as her parents favourite (though they all received coldness from their parents). She had never really wanted to be alpha, though she hadn't not wanted it either. To her, if she became alpha then it was because she earned it.
Her younger sister, Narcissa, had always wanted to be alpha. While Antonia was seen as a perfect example of what a Buckingham should be: intelligent, capable and proud. Narcissa was seen as: pathetic, weak and feeble.
When Wilhelmina died and Canus announced his fading health, both daughters set out to prove themselves as alpha. A few months later, Canus passed, and Antonia took on the role as alpha at the age of twenty-six.
Antonia wasn't a bad leader, she stepped up to the mark and tried to follow in her parents footsteps. She was compassionate but fair in her rule, though her pride was prominent. She continued to lead for two years, earning the pack's trust by pulling them through grief and troubles. Though on the midst of all this, she was trying to balance her personal life; having fallen in love with the roguish, but lovable Aaron Wulf (ironic a werewolf being called Wulf) in the year prior, and eventually, he proposed.
While Antonia was enveloped in the warmth of love, Narcissa was frozen in ice of envy. She should have been happy to see her sister flourishing and doing so well, but it just fuelled her jealousy and slow growing resentment. You see, it'd always been Antonia.
Their parent's bloody pride and joy.
Her parents had never admitted it, because honestly, Antonia wasn't their favourite - they didn't have one - but perhaps it seemed the eldest was praised a little more than the others. This never bothered younger sisters Zinnia and Dahlia, who were too concerned with their own lives to care about who was praised more, but it continued to bother Narcissa - she despised the self-perceived favouritism.
Scorned and envious, it was the start of Narcissa's descent into the frozen waters of ruthless ambition. She would have what she wanted.
She'd just have to take it.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the pack, a group of hunters had begun to eradicate packs and any werewolves they came across. It only came to their attention, when news of brutal deaths from other packs reached them. Whole families and packs, slaughtered. Their own pack was becoming nervous.
Naturally, all eyes turned to the alpha.
Antonia's pride wouldn't allow them to hide, they wouldn't show weakness in fear, but she thought it unreasonable to go and seek a fight. So, she decided the best thing to do would be to stay their ground and wait to see what to coming time would bring. After all, she was a firm believer in strength in heart, before strength in arm. The choice was met with mixed reviews, though it was the alphas decision and one that would been respected. Besides, she hadn't steered them wrong thus far.
Then came the ambush.
They hadn't even seen it coming; they couldn't have prepared. Many of the pack were slaughtered, as were many of the Hunters, enough for the Hunters to see they were defeated. The remaining Hunters fled after the carnage, leaving those still alive from the pack to tend to wounds and gather their dead.
Antonia had been wounded, but she'd live - it was only a bullet in the shoulder, which was more than she could say say for her soon-to-be husband.
Aaron had been killed, shot in the head.
As she looked upon the dead body of her fiancee, the only person her heart had truly soared for, she felt like a knife had been driven into her gut. Her heart shattered in her chest, her being flooding with grief. She'd lost him.
Perhaps to make matters worse, was Narcissa's cold anger towards her, that she blamed her for what had happened. Well, Narcissa was right. None of this would have happened of she'd listened to her pack, rather than her pride.
Antonia couldn't lead anymore. She couldn't stay either. Antonia hadn't been kicked out, but she couldn't look upon all those faces that had trusted her and had lost so much because of her. Broken and defeated, it didn't take long for Antonia to pass on the alpha spark, leaving the pack entirely in the hands of whom she felt would be more suited.
Narcissa.
While Antonia fled and fell, Narcissa rose: standing before all those that had underestimated her. She'd gotten what she wanted.
Now was her era, the era for the greatest alpha the pack would ever know.
Now was the time for unyielding ambition.
