Who Are We Up Against

--Stiles--
I stood in front of my open locker, staring into it blankly as Scott stood beside me talking about what happened last night. I was barely listening though as my mind was somewhere else. I was scared and confused about what had happened last night. I was worried that the man would come back for me and I would be defenseless to do anything to stop him. To protect myself.

"Stiles." Scott said nudging me. "Are you even listening to me?"

Startled I gave a slight jump and glanced at him. "Uh...what?"

Scott watched me with concern, nodding slightly to himself as if he knew something I didn't. "Are you okay?"

I closed my locker, slowly turning towards him. "I'm fine. Just tired. Didn't get much sleep."

My facial expression must've said something else because Scott placed his hand on my arm gently and said softly, "Stiles nothing is going to happen to you. Not while I'm here."

I smile wanly and say quietly, "You can't promise that. Not even a true alpha can stop what we don't know is coming."

We walked to class and on our way there I saw him standing at the end of the hallway, in the corner by the doors. I knew I was imagining him there but I still had to ask. "Do you see that?"

Scott looked around a frown settling on his lips. "See what? I don't see anything."

I knew it. I sighed frustrated and ran a hand through my dark hair. "Never mind."

After school we all met at Scott's house since the clinic had a, been compromised and b, had been almost destroyed. I was sitting on the couch Malia, Lydia, Mason, Hayden, Liam, Kira, Scott and Deaton sitting or standing and trying to figure out who or what we were up against.

"So what do you think we're up against here?" Liam asked.

Deaton stroked his chin looking thoughtful. "I'm not sure. What were the emotions that you got from him?"

Scott glanced at me;I pretended not to notice. "Desire and lust mostly. But also anger and envy, jealousy and...."

I narrowed my eyes at him and Malia said, "And what? What is it that you're not telling us?"

Scott glanced at me once more before adding, "His scent wasn't human. It was the smell of death and destruction, despair and....and blood. A lot of it."

I frowned. Even I wasn't sure what he meant by that. But in the back of my mind was the faint whisper of the word:vampire.

"So...."

Scott let out a breath, running a hand through his hair. "He's a vampire."
