Chapter 4: Sinister Sisters
???: This is Agent J, along with my partner Agent R, and this is my private log, part 66. We've located the fugitive on the planet Earth, most likely hiding among the population. As this is one of the galaxy's more dangerous criminals, we'll be sending the Centauri attack drones ahead, and only when exhausted should we attempt to arrest her. Agent J, over and out.
A black and blue figure stepped away from the computer they were using, and walked over to a small row of pods, each one housing a pink device. They pressed the button on one tube, causing it to launch the drone down towards earth. Shortly after, the being who referred to themselves as Agent J sat by a smaller figure, this one wearing a black spacesuit.
Agent J: You think it'll be easy?
Agent R: I would not be so sure, Tameraneons are known for their strength.
Agent J: Let's just hope we don't run into nobody else, I heard a bunch of alien immigrants have been moving here, with all the chaos going on.
Agent R: They shouldn't be a bother, but let's be sure to keep our weapons at the ready...
--Jump City Carnival--
Fireworks went off in the night sky, lighting up the darkened docks for brief moments as the many fair goers enjoyed the rides and games. Our heroes were no different, and while three were off somewhere else, many on the ferris wheel were somewhat surprised to find Omni-Boy and Starfire joining along with them. The two young Titans were along the top portion as the latter gazed in wonderment at the fireworks.
Starfire: Beautiful...what are they called again?
Omni-Boy: Those? They're called fireworks.
Starfire: We have similar explosives on my planet, but we use them to signal Gordanian invasions. Are you certain the Earth is not under attack?
Omni-Boy: (Chuckles) Oh no, no! Earthlings use 'em for holidays and celebrations, nothing bad like that. Besides, we took care of those guys a long time ago. (He holds out a cone of cotton candy.) Here, want some?
Starfire: Mm, the last I tried a ball of cotton, it did not taste very good...
Omni-Boy: This isn't like wool, people eat it here all the time, watch.
Devan pulls his mask just above his mouth to tear off a piece and demonstrate to Starfire, who follows suit a few moments after.
Starfire: Mmmm... (A yelp of surprise.) It has vanished!
Omni-Boy: Hehehe, yeah, it does that..
After the brief exchange, they notice the fireworks display was now reaching its climax, redoubling in its intensity. Devan sat back and just...took in the moment. Things have been somewhat chaotic now that he became a full-time hero, so being able to do things like this was a great change of pace. But here, with Starfire, it gave him a strange feeling, something he never thought he'd feel for anyone really. It was difficult for him to describe, but he felt happy, like nothing could go wrong, like everything was at peace.
Starfire: Starfire: (Sighs) ...When I first came to this planet, I did not think I would ever fit in. Earth was full of strange things. But now, I see that--
She is cut off, and then dragged off, by the robotic squid drone we saw at the beginning of this chapter. It wraps itself around the orange Titan and floats off in a hurry, leaving Omni-Boy in abject shock.
Omni-Boy: Starfire?! Don't worry, I'm right behind you!!
He hurriedly twists his watch before slamming the dial and jumping from his seat. In an instant, he became a manta-like humanoid.
Devan: Get back here!
They were now soaring over the carnival, Star attempts to pry herself loose.
Starfire: Mr. Octopus Robot Sir??? Wherever you wish to take me, I do not want to be there!
She fires a starbolt at the tentacles' base; the craft stops in midair, crackling all over with the energy of the shot, and she extricates herself and bugs out. The device goes after her, only for the drone to take another energy blast, this time a red, optical beam from Devan.
Devan: Dang, you're tough!
(Elsewhere below...)
Cyborg, Beast Boy and Raven were together at one of those "Ring Toss" games, the former two more so than the latter, but was was clear the two were enjoying themselves.
Cyborg: Boo-yah!
Beast Boy: Sweet!
They trade a high five as Beast Boy is handed his prize, a huge stuffed chicken. Raven leans against a post, her arms crossed and her expression showing her low opinion of the whole exercise.
Beast Boy: Told you we'd win you a prize.
Upon handing the stuffed toy to her, it makes a clucking sound.
Raven: A giant chicken? I must be the luckiest girl in the world...
Devan lands in a crouch in the middle of the three, scaring off several groups of people.
Devan: Guys! We got trouble!
Beast Boy: Where's Star?
Devan: The trouble's got her!
He flies off; Raven tosses the chicken aside and all three follow him. Reaching the end of the pier, they look over the bay and see a scintillating object plummet straight toward the waves. It resolves into Starfire as she pulls up sharply to skim the surface, leaving a broad wake behind herself. The craft is hot on her tail. She looks back over her shoulder, gasps, and sidesteps to avoid a lashing tentacle; turning onto her back, she throws a couple of starbolts that hit the nose without effect.
Starfire: No more chasing now, please!
A flip to face forward again, and she is off like a jet. She angles herself toward the pier and flies neatly through the other Titans; the pursuer does likewise.
Beast Boy: Who's her new friend??
Devan: No clue, but I can't wait to meet him...
Devan charges another optic beam as the chase loops around the Ferris wheel and back to the pier, where Starfire stops just behind the rest of the team. Beast Boy is first to attack, leaping high and turning into an alligator to bite at the tentacles' bases, just barely missing. Raven levitates a nearby hot dog cart and heaves it at the oncoming vehicle, which crashes right through it. As the thing races past Cyborg, he grabs the tentacles and hauls on them with all his strength. Ever so slowly, he is dragged forward a few feet before bringing the craft to a stop.
Cyborg: Don't know what you did to make this thing mad, Star, but it couldn't hurt to apologize!
Starfire: I am...sorry?
The tentacles yank themselves out of his grip. Before it could attack however, three red lasers forced the craft over the railings and into the bay. Devan lands after seeing this, his eyes and tail glowing red.
Beast Boy: So, you guys think we beat it?
...
(CRASH!)
That was the sound of the machine smashing through the floor, thoroughly answering BB's question.
Devan: That's it! Time to send you to the scrapyard!
(Ping... Flash!)
Devan: Solid Slate!
The Petrosapien morphed his hands into large and spiked mallets, crashing into the pink portion of the drone. Sparks flew, the machine convulsed, spun out of control, rising higher and higher toward the stratosphere before it finally explodes in a mighty conflagration among the fireworks that were still going off.
Solid Slate: Hmph! Knocked his block off... You alright, Star?
Starfire: Yes, I think so, but just what was that creature?
Solid Slate: Whatever it was, it ain't hurting you now.
Starfire: But, why did it want to hurt me?
(Some time later.)
--Titans Tower--
Starfire, positively ecstatic, enters first while her teammates stand at the doorway.
Starfire: Come, friends. I shall thank you for my rescue by reciting the Poem of Gratitude, all six thousand verses!
Devan: Is it weird I already know th-
???: I see you haven't changed a bit, little sister...
The Titans gasp in surprise, and when Star turns around, she's equally as startled. Standing before the Teen Titans was a female with hair and clothes as black as night, but her features were uncannily similar to Starfire, which made some notion of sense if she really is her sister.
???: When we were little, I was always rescuing Starfire.
Laughing, she opens her arms wide as Starfire squeals with delight and runs over to hug her.
Starfire: Sister!
???: I brought you a little something special...
The elder Tameraneon then revealed a dazzling green gem, a beautiful necklace from some alien planet no doubt. Upon seeing the gift, Starfire makes an amusing face.
Starfire: A Centauri moon diamond?!? Where did you get--?
???: On the Centauri moons, of course. (She fastens it around Starfire's neck.) Oh, look, it even matches your eyes!
The recipient beams for a moment, then takes her sister by the arm.
Starfire: You must meet my friends!
The dark haired Tameraneon is yanked across the operations center before she can say a word.
Starfire: I wish to introduce my big sister.
She steps forward.
Blackfire: Blackfire. And since Star told me all about the Titans in her transmissions, let me guess. (She points to...) Cyborg.
Cyborg: (Holding out his hand to shake.) Pleased to meet you, little lady.
There is a loud grinding of metal as she takes the hand; after letting go, he finds his fingers to have been squeezed temporarily out of alignment. Talk about Tameraneon greetings, am I right?
Cyborg: Little lady with a big handshake! Well, all right...
She moves on to the occult girl.
Blackfire: Raven, I like that gemstone on your Ajna chakra.
Raven: Hm? You...know about chakras?
Blackfire: I got way into meditation on Altara Prime. (She moves on to...) Beast Boy! What's up?
Beast Boy: Nothing but the ceiling, baby!
Blackfire: Haha! Good one!
Beast Boy: See? She thinks I'm funny!
Raven: Statistically, I suppose someone had to.
Blackfire: And you...
She stepped up to Devan, who was almost immediately put off by her sudden approach. His stomach was fuzzy, his brain felt like it was being bombarded by harsh chemicals, every atom of his being felt strange...
During his brief lapse in concentration, Blackfire took the opportunity to inspect his watch, turing his arm here and there to see all the little details.
Blackfire: So what's this little guy called? Star told me a lot of things about it.
Devan: Uh, the Omnitrix? It, doesn't really come off. But, yeah, I can transform into other aliens and stuff with it!
Blackfire: Really now? But why change such a nice looking face like yours?
Devan: Eh??
She leaned in closer to get a better look at Devan, much to his (and Starfire's) surprise. His face went beet red and he stammered over his words, but thankfully for him, Starfire stepped in between them to change the subject.
Starfire: So, beloved sister, what brings you to Earth?
Blackfire crosses to the couch as she explained herself.
Blackfire: Oh, I was just in the nearby quadrant. Thought I'd see if Earthlings like to party. (She hops over the back and sits.) Besides, I needed a rest. Nearly got sucked into a black hole on the way here!
Devan: Black hole? You mean you flew here without a ship??
This begrudgingly got Devan's attention, and he joined the other two boys as they gathered to hear Blackfire's story.
Cyborg: No way!
Beast Boy: Cool!
Blackfire: Okay. So I'm cruising through the Draconis Nebula, and--
Starfire: Sister! That nebula is full of black holes! You know travel there is forbidden.
Her sister was silent for a moment, but soon regained her smug attitude.
Blackfire: Hey, most fun things in life are. Now be a sweetie and bring me one of those sodas I've heard so much about. (She turns to the boys.) So anyway, I'm zooming over an event horizon, approaching light speed, when all of a sudden...
(Earth's Orbit)
Agent R: J, the primary drone has been destroyed, but its last report confirmed the presence of our target.
Agent J: Had a feeling she'd pull it off, they don't really arm these things with much, at least we have more.
Agent R: What's the next step?
Agent J: Deploy the other three we have, and if that doesn't work, take the ship to the surface. I have a feeling things are gonna get messy down there.
(Back to the Tower)
Some time has passed, and we find Starfire, still wearing the green necklace, looking around the tower for her sister. Her first spot to look was the operations room, where Cy and BB were engaged in a racing game, the latter currently winning.
Cyborg: You want to pass me, but you can't pass me. You can't pa-- (Surprised; Beast Boy grins.) You passed me!
Beast Boy: Tighten the turn...jets...and nitro!
He jumps up and does a victory dance as Cyborg slumps over; a moment later, he is back on the couch. Starfire walks up behind them.
Starfire: Tell me, have either of you seen Blackfire?
Beast Boy: Blazin' B? She was here just a second ago.
Starfire: Oh! She was playing the game with you?
Beast Boy: (Hearts legit float up from him.) Yeah. She rules at this game...
Starfire: I see...
She walks away, this time checking Raven's room, assuming her and Blackfire were possibly having "The Girl Talk". Upon knocking, Raven opens the door just enough for her eye and mouth to be visible.
Starfire: Is...my sister in there?
Raven: No.
Starfire: Oh...Might you wish to hang out with me? We could visit your favorite depressing café.
Raven: Already been. It was open mic and Blackfire wanted to share. Your sister's poetry is, surprisingly dark.
She closes the door, and Starfire heads off down the hall and sighs heavily. She was heading towards the gym area when she overheard a conversation, spotting two shadows on the wall. Not just any shadows, but the ones belonging to her sister, and Devan??
Devan: Are you sure about this? This just feels...weird.
Gasping at the idea of what they were possibly doing in there, Starfire advanced to the gym much faster. The two shadows are now touching, bending over even...
Blackfire: It's fine, Devan, just lean into me, and...
Star reached the doorway, only to find her sister...throwing Dev across the room and into a rack of dumbbells.
(...)
Not exactly what she thought they were doing, but still, she wasn't a fan by her expression.
Blackfire: Learned that move from a Ven-Zo master on Tyrus Three!
Starfire: Hello Devan, and...my sister. Am I, interrupting something?
Devan: Huh?? N-No, not at all! Blackfire was just showing me how other aliens fight, thought it might help me with my punch-and-kick guys. She's pretty good, actually, has moves I never seen you do before.
Starfire attempted to give some excuse as for why that was, but her sister was one step ahead as it seemed, better yet, as it has always been.
Blackfire: Probably because she doesn't know them. I always was the better fighter. (She leads Dev away.) Come on, I'll show you the technique I once used to stop a raging Orthax!
The little sister stares bug-eyed after them for a moment and then hangs her head sadly. Devan sees this, but had no idea what exactly was going on. But yet again, he got that strange feeling.
(The next night.)
Four of our main Titans sit at the couch, particularly bored due to the lack of activity in Jump City that day.
Starfire: Friends!
She comes in, balancing buckets of popcorn and candy along with stacks of DVDs.
Starfire: I invite you to join me in the togetherness of a stay-home movie night! I bring you popcorn and non-cotton candies. Tell me, what sort of movie shall we view?
Devan: Documentary!
Beast Boy: Comedy!
Cyborg: Sci-fi!
Raven: Horror.
???: Forget the flicks, kids...
Everyone turned to see Blackfire, now wearing one of Star's spare outfits, making their appearances even more identical than before.
Blackfire: We're going out!
Starfire: We are? (Blackfire passes her.) Where did you-? Are those my-?
Blackfire: (To the other Titans.) Heard about a party downtown. Cool crowd, hot music.
Beast Boy: Yeah!
Cyborg: I'm in.
Devan: I mean, I guess if everyone else wants to, why not?
Raven: ...
Blackfire: And it just so happens to be in a creepy run-down warehouse~...
Hearing this last bit, Raven closes her book and begins to leave with the other Titans, but Starfire could only watch in sadness as she seemed to be completely ignored.
Blackfire: Hey, sweetie, raided your closet. Hope you don't mind me borrowing your look.
She watches as he older sister exits the Tower.
Starfire: Why not? You have already borrowed my friends...
--Rave Warehouse--
Blackfire wasn't lying when she said it was party going on. A thumping dance beat can be heard within as multicolored lights pulse at the windows. Cut to inside and pan across the space, which is packed with partying teens, and now with our heroes, plus one. Blackfire makes her way among the crowd, with all Titans except Starfire close behind, and Devan made sure to have his costume on before stepping in.
Blackfire: Step aside, Earthlings, the queen of the galaxy has arrived!
As she shows everyone how a real Tameraneon throws down, Raven looks back the way they came and sees Starfire standing at the door, clearly uncomfortable in this environment. The fifth Titan moves hesitantly through the dancers and gets jostled back and forth.
Starfire: Oh...excuse...oh...uh... (Her foot is trod on.) Ow! You really should apologize after stepping on someone's foot!
The pale girl shakes her head before looking back at her teammate's sister.
Blackfire: (Laughing) Now don't tell me you big tough superheroes are afraid of a little dancing!
Beast Boy: Betcha Cyborg can do the Robot.
He then proceeds to do a horrible rendition of the dance move, and gets a very unappreciative glare from the big blue bionic man standing next to him. After a moment, he and Cyborg break into a dance of their own, as the other two girls watch on.
Raven: Ugh, this party is pointless...
Just then, a boy who looks as though he just stepped out of Hot Topic approaches the hooded Raven.
Goth Boy: Everything is pointless. Wanna go talk about it?
She shrugs and walks off with the similarly occult boy, leaving Star alone and in a strange place, something she definitely did not like. She makes as if to follow them, but is unable to. A couple of slacker types pass behind her and back up for a closer look, we can be sure in assuming they weren't looking at her personality.
Slacker: Hey, hot alien girl! You digging the scene?
Starfire: (She nervously blushes.) I...did not know we were supposed to bring shovels.
The two boys began laughing uncontrollably, and with everything else going on around her, Star felt incredibly small.
--Close to Earth's atmosphere--
Agent R: Deploying the drones...now.
Flipping three switches on a control panel, three of the squid-like drones were sent ahead of the ship itself. The vessel a large, U-shaped scraft, with bright green lights on certain portions.
Agent J: Now find of a secure landing spot, she must be in that city down there...
--Back on Earth--
Starfire was now on the roof of the warehouse, looking utterly dejected, about to cry even.
Starfire: Perhaps...perhaps I do not belong here, after all...
???: I don't blame you.
She turns to the roof entrance, and saw Devan approaching.
Devan: I never understood why a buncha strangers want to dance like, three inches from the other guy! Never was my thing, but, what's wrong with you?
Starfire: (With a false smile.) Nothing is wrong! Everything is wonderful. The pounding music and blinding lights are quite enjoyable...
Devan sat down next to the Tameraneon, with a look of concern plastered on his face. Seeing this, Star decided to come clean.
Starfire: Everything is not wonderful. I am happy to see her, but Blackfire rules the video games, and she is able to share very depressing poems, and she knows the cool moves, and...and she always knows when people are not talking about shovels! And I am nothing like her...
Devan: So?
Starfire: What...?
Devan: So what if she can do stuff you might not be able to? Doesn't mean she's BETTER than you!
Starfire: But, everyone seems to enjoy her company more than mine.
Devan: Aw, she's not really that great, I mean, she's just you but with black hair. And, if I'm being honest with you...I get a bad vibe when she looks at me.
Starfire: Bad vibe? What is the "bad vibe"?
Devan: I mean, she shows up out of nowhere, immediately acts friendly with us strangers, and we just so happen to have a lot in common. It might just be me, but I've seen it before, and I have a feeling she might be trying to-
Suddenly, a familiar looking Tameran appears from the skylight, now wearing a hot pink wig. For a moment, Devan almost mistook her for the one sitting right beside him.
Blackfire: How do I look?
Devan: Uh, you look pink? H-Hey, could we have a minute up here? Just me and Star for a bit?
Blackfire: ...
This response is not quite what she expected. However, her demeanor changes in an instant with the music downstairs.
Blackfire: Oh, I love this song!
Devan: Hey!
She flies over, grabs Devan's arm, and yanks him down through the skylight. It swings shut to leave Starfire alone on the roof again. She sighs wearily and stands up from the ledge as the sound of something in flight is heard from above.
Starfire: Huh?
From between the letters of the lighted sign on the roof, a glare can be seen fading away. Its source, one of the three launched probes, pokes out and charges at her.
Beast Boy and Cyborg were dancing to beat the band, but the little green goofball stops short and looks up. His perspective: Starfire and the probe, visible only as silhouettes, are fighting it out on the skylight panes. It finally seizes her in its tentacles and darts away. Floor level; Beast Boy runs across the room to track the alien craft. Losing sight of it near the wall, he turns back to call in a little help.
Beast Boy: Cy! Star's in trouble!
Cyborg stops dancing and turns to look, just as Beast Boy is grabbed by the tentacles of a second probe and dragged toward the door.
Beast Boy: Whoa! Help!
The bionic Titan runs after him, but is broadsided by the third probe; he fetches up against the wall, and the craft closes in.
--Elsewhere--
Goth Boy: So do you like show tunes?
The probe hauling Beast Boy passes before she can answer. Her companion beats feet out of there, and she flies to lend a hand. Two crates are promptly levitated and projected at the craft; their impact jars Beast Boy out of its grip, and he falls to skid across the floor. Through the skylight, Raven spots the one that has caught Starfire; it gains altitude and then goes into a screaming dive to crash through the glass and into a pile of crates. She moves back to avoid the impact. Cyborg lands a punch against the probe that struck him, after which Starfire and the one that seized her break out of the crates. She blasts it back with a starbolt, but with little to no effect.
Beast Boy, momentarily in the clear, suddenly yelps and jumps back a bit to get out of the way of the one that tried to tow him in. Transforming into a tiger during his backflip, he lunges at the alien craft and drives it across the room with a swipe of his paw. It stops beneath Starfire; in no time, it and the other two have closed in on her. She gasps and flies around and around to shake them, finally getting a breather thanks to Cyborg's flying tackle that brings down all of them. Looking down as his grunts rise to her, she sees him taking on the three craft. One is punched away, another slung out by its tentacles; the third, however, spins like a high-speed flail and sends him tumbling.
(BOOM!)
Devan: What was that?
Even though Blackfire had dragged him back on the dancefloor, Devan could hear the commotion over all the loud music. As he went to investigate, Blackfire held onto his arm.
Blackfire: It's probably nothing, don't worry.
Devan: Sorry, but the sound of exploding debris tends to worry me-
Just then, Cyborg crashes through the wall, landing dazed at Dev and Black's feet.
Devan: Cy, what happened!?
Cyborg: Remember that thing that attacked Star? It's got friends!
Devan helped his bionic buddy up and went to go help, noticing that Blackfire wasn't moving.
Devan: Didn't you hear him?! Your sister is in danger!
Blackfire: Yes, of course...
We cut to the alley behind the warehouse; Starfire crashes out through the wall, hits the one opposite, and drops into a nearby dumpster. The three probes float out as she opens the lid for a peek. One of them slams it down on her head and starts to hoist the entire container skyward; her screams are heard from inside as all three take off. But before they can take her away, she heard a mighty roar from below, and the dumpster was now being pulled down with gusto. A massive claw extends to slice two tendrils away and release the container, crashing into the road with a loud thud.
Landing with the three other Titans, it appears Devan had become an alien similar in appearance to a white tiger, but he wore a red and black wrestling costume.
Bone-Claw: Let me tell ya somethin', floating-space-squid-robots! Bone-Claw ain't gonna let you snatch up his friend! Bone-Claw is gonna rip you apart, put ya back together, then rip you up aga-
As he was doing a lot of talking and not a lot of DOING, Blackfire flew overhead and began her own assault. Beams of violet energy shoot forth from her eyes, hitting a specific portion of their heads, and this blows them all away; fragments of hulls and tentacles rain down as she lands in the alley.
Cyborg: Aw, yeah!
Beast Boy: Nice shooting, Tex!
Raven: Very nice.
Bone-Claw: Uh, thanks??
He reverted to Omni-Boy, seeing as the conflict was apparently over.
Omni-Boy: Hey, uh, how'd you know where to shoot them? We all had a bit of trouble with the first one.
Blackfire: I dunno, lucky guess?
During this exchange, Starfire finally opens the dumpster, and is horrified with what she hears.
Cyborg: We could use luck like that. Maybe you oughta join the team.
Blackfire: Me? A Teen Titan?
(Whoosh!)
Out of nowhere, Star fired off in the direction of the tower. Everyone watched as a green trail of light was all that remained, and not just that. Devan looked up, and spotted before anyone else, the same U-shaped vessel, also headed to the tower.
Omni-Boy: Ok, just WHAT is going on here??
Slamming down on the Omegamatrix, Devan became the manta man once again, taking off faster than the others could.
Back at the Tower, Star was now on the roof, a large sack slung over her shoulder, and a look of sadness in her emerald green eyes.
Starfire: (Sighs) At least she will be more capable than I...
She was just a foot off the ground as Devan swooped down.
Devan: Star, I know something's up with your sister, but we have a bigger problem!
Starfire: What do you mea-
The sound of an approaching craft draws a gasp from her and an over-shoulder look from him. It stops overhead, as two figures exited via a hatch underneath, and leaped onto the roof. The first was a humanoid in a dark spacesuit, but the other was undoubtedly alien, as it appeared to be a member of Bioware's species, but with blue patterns instead of red.
Devan: Who are you, the guys with the octo-bots earlier?
Instead of answering, the blue Mechamorph turn their left hand into an energy weapon and began firing at Devan.
Titans took to the air, planning to use their ranged attacks to their advantage as the strangers were stuck on the ground. The humanoid reached from his back and produced an energy rifle while the Mechanorph fired at Starfire primarily, however she flew too fast for the slow cannon. Seeing this, the cannon split into smaller barrels, firing blue bolts much faster than before.
Additionally, two large engines poked out its back and it took off after the Tameraneon. Devan went for the astronaut, spinning around his head in an attempt to make them dizzy. Seeing his tactic, Agent R changed the setting on his gun, and without warning the manta man was bound inside an orange net, made from pure energy. As Morgan struggles to free himself, the blue Mechamorph chased Starfire around the tower, slowly gaining on her. Once it was close enough, it charged up for one engulfing beam of energy, hitting dead center in Star's back and bringing her back down to the roof.
Agent R: Looks like we got her, and her accomplice.
Devan: N-No...!
(Ping... Flash!)
Tearing through the net, Devan grew larger and wider, about twelve feet or more, and the agent stepped back in surprise.
Goliath: Goliath!!
The dinosaur Giant grabbed ahold of R, and held him high in the air at the Mechanorph. In turn, the skyborne agent pointed two plasma cannon hands at Devan.
Goliath: I'm only asking you once: Why are you here for my friend??
Agent J: Hang on there, big guy! We don't want to put anyone down tonight, it's not that type of mission! We're with the Rooters!
The Mechanorph had something emerge from their chest, and they retrieved and displayed a badge of some sort, but it was nothing Morgan recognized.
Goliath: What mission? You aren't with those Gordanian creeps then, are you? Cause we took care of them three years ago!
Agent J: You did? Wait...but the Tameraneon stole from the Centauri Empire only a month ago!
Goliath: You mean that necklace?
After a while, Starfire regained consciousness and got back to her feet.
Starfire: D-Devan? What is happening?
After seeing that she was mostly undamaged by J's attack, Goliath let go of the second agent.
Goliath: I think we've just had a HUGE misunderstanding!
Agent R: Miss, I'm not sure if you knew this, but that thing you're wearing is stolen property.
Starfire: Stolen?! But I have never set foot on the Centauri Moons!
Goliath: Yeah, but I think I know someone who did...
(Some time later...)
Seeing as the jig was most certainly up, Blackfire decided now was a good time to escape and was now flying towards space at high speed, only for her little sister to halt right in front of her.
Starfire: Hello, sister...you seem to be in "The Hurry".
Blackfire: Aww, you're mad. I know, I should have told you I was leaving, but you know how I hate goodbyes and--
Starfire: You are a criminal, and you were going to let me take your place in jail!
Blackfire: Oh...well...yeah. I guess I was!
Starfire leans into her sister's face, who maintains her confidence and smug aura.
Starfire: You will give back what you have stolen and turn yourself over to the police!
Blackfire: And what will you do if I don't?
Before she could answer, Blackfire warms up a violet starbolt and lets her have it in the kisser, which sent her tumbling.
Blackfire: You know I always was the better fighter.
Her little sister rights herself after touching down on the ground and floats back up.
Starfire: Not anymore!
Blackfire unloads a machine-gun barrage of starbolts; Starfire flies through them all without so much as getting her hair singed and gathers herself for a crushing counterstrike. This shot connects with Blackfire's hand and makes the one she was about to throw fizzle out. One very angry little sister rises to stare her down; both hands are lost in the dazzling radiance of the starbolts she is holding in check. Blackfire merely laughs in her face, but trails off into surprised yells, as she is suddenly entangled by a long tendril. Star looked down, and saw the two "Agents" in their ship.
Agent J: Blackfire of Tameran, on the behalf of the Centauri Empire, we are here to arrest you! Expect this little game of yours to get you SIX more years added to your stay in a Rooter prison cell!
With their criminal in tow, the two agents, now in their ship, began to depart as Blackfire was being dragged in.
Starfire: (Waving) Farewell, sister! Although you did betray and attack me, it was...still very nice to see you.
Blackfire: Next time, it won't be so nice. I will get out of jail eventually, little sister, and I WILL get even!
--Titans Tower--
It is now the dawn of a new day, but concerns of the past, and of the future are the only things Starfire could think about as she watches the morning sunrise. She sits at the edge, bathed in light and lost in thought, and looks out over the sparkling bay as the wind blows her hair where it will. After a while, Devan appears from behind and takes a seat beside her.
Devan: You good?
Starfire: I am...sad. For my sister, I mean.
Devan: Yeah? Even after she tried sicking the space cops on you?
Starfire: I am just glad the truth was found out before I was replaced...
The young man gave a confused glance.
Devan: Replaced?? Not even if someone promised the whole planet to me!
Hearing this, Star's eyes grew wide.
Starfire: Well, you...everyone was having such fun with her, and then Cyborg said--
She was cut off by a hand being placed on her shoulder.
Devan: Hey, she was pretty cool- until the whole betrayal thing- but she couldn't replace you. It, it wouldn't be the same, I guess I'm trying to say...we would've missed you if you left, all of us...
Realizing that all the doubt was just paranoia getting the best of her, realizing just how much her team cares about her, she was able to give a genuine smile.
And after another moment, the two gaze back towards the sparkling blue waters of Jump City Bay.
Starfire: That is nice to know, I would have missed you too...
