Chapter 23
"It was good, not as fun as yours but good. My mother died when I was three and it was just my father and I. He did his best and I am just grateful for that. I had everything I needed." She said not wanting to get into details with it.
"How did you meet your group of friends, are you guys still friends?" He asked about the four blondes she had called her friends for half her life. She swallowed, the question taking her to a place she did not want to visit for so long.
"We met at middle school, the love for total spies and winx club bringing us together. We would go over to Pearl's house, watch our cartoons then go outside and pretend we were princesses with wings. It was fun and promises had been made of friendship that would last till the end of time yet funny because time happened. They grew, me falling behind. Suddenly it was no longer total spies and winx club but Hannah Montana and that's so raven. My father could not afford that certain package so I was left behind, I would walk behind as they talked about this pop star living a double life. One day they came with matching hairstyles, blonde fringe just like Hannah Montana. It was humiliating and sad. I could not afford all that nor the new clothes they had seen from the shows so it was them and me-the dead weight they could not seem to get rid of. I knew I should have part ways with them yet I had already lost my father and could not lose them too." She said, her eyes watching as she drew on the ground with her shoe. She looked up, no emotion displayed because after all this time it finally did not bother her. She had gone through worse than all the bullying and abuse, she had put it behind her telling herself everything had been done to make her stronger.
Sebastian did not say anything back. What could he say? He was blank so he just swallowed his emotions and stared at her which she was happy for because she did not want his pity, she could take it from anyone else but not him.
"What do you mean you lost your father?" Sebastian asked, her words still ringing in his ears.
She sighed.
"Nothing gets past you now does it?" She said, shaking her head with a ghost smile on her face.
"My father was left to take care of me when I was three, he was lost and grieving his wife with no idea on how to go on to it. His loss had him closing off, he is not good at expressing himself, showing emotion, he is socially awkward really, preferring his own space than being around people. When I turned ten he had taught me all I would need to take care of myself. I was already doing all the work to keep the house going like cooking, cleaning and washing. He sat me down, told me that I was old enough now and that he was going back to work his full hours as before mom died. He was basically telling me that I was on my own from now on and he would rarely be there. It was hard, I was scared most of the time being in the house all alone because with more and more time passing he came back less and less in the house. I would rarely see him only finding money needed on the counter on mornings. I would write what I needed on a paper, leave it on the counter for whenever he would come back from work and he would leave the money before leaving. It felt like I had not only lost my mother but my father too." She said, playing with her hands as Sebastian caught them, holding them only to realize that they were slightly shaking. She was strong yet no one could be that strong. He stood up from his swing, moving around to hers with her eyes following his every move. He walked in between her legs, pushing them apart with his legs only to grab her and bring her to him. His arms went around her shoulders, bringing her in and hugging her tight. There was no way out for her, her arms came circling around his waist with her head on his abs with her eyes closing as she took him in, taking his scent in letting him heal her. It was amazing, she felt free and protected as she lay there in his arms, she felt at ease with everything drifting away. She had not known how much she had needed this, could not even remember the last time anyone asked her or looked past the wall in her face. She held on tighter feeling her tears well up yet she held them down. What had she done to deserve him, he was too good and she ruined everything she touched yet she held on tightly.
"Now do you want to try the swing standing up?" He asked with his lips pressing on the top of her head. She squeezed her eyes, laughing at his words.
"Yes please." She said out, her hand coming to wipe away the tears on her cheeks.
"Each person pushes themselves and we will see who gets higher first." She said letting go of him and risking her life. Excitement coursed through her she could not help it, she had always wanted to do this yet been two scared to when she was young. Sebastian let go as he walked around to his swing. They stepped on the board meant for sitting.
"1, 2, 3, GO!" Sebastian shouted as they held on to the chains, bending their knees and pushing forward for the swing to move. It was hard work and they were both heaving with their muscles sore yet they were determined and on they pushed and pushed until the swings got higher and higher. It was scary and very risky. They went higher and higher with Greenery's laughs turning to screams as the swing was too fast and high for her. She screamed and screamed with Sebastian laughing out loud at her.
"Bash I want to stop! I can't stop!" She screamed.
"I can't stop! Ooh lord I can't stop!" She screamed over and over again trying so hard to slow it down but failing. It felt like she was going to fall, every time the swing going forward it seeming like it would throw her out. She kept bending her knees and stretching them not knowing what would happen if she stopped but knowing it would not be good.
"Bash!"
Sebastian laughed harder, holding on to his chains hard for in a matter of a split second he could be flying out and never walk a day in his life
.
"I am jumping off! I am jumping off!" Greenery screamed having Sebastian snap out of it.
"No, don't jump, don't jump, wait I am coming!" He screamed back as he tried slowing down his own but it took more than two minutes and by then Greenery had screamed her lungs out with the whole neighbourhood probably running to the rescue. As soon as Sebastian's swing was slow enough he jumped off nearly gasping seeing hers going higher and faster. He wondered if his own was moving this fast having his heart drum, scared for her. He did not know how to stop it but knew he had to and fast before it threw Greenery off and she would probably die with how this thing was going. He moved on the side, moving to the front seeing that he was likely to lose a few teeth stopping this thing which somehow had him nearly laughing not even sure why this was even funny. He went to the back, still seeing no way to stop it but just throwing himself in there.
"Hold on tight Green, tight!" He screamed with her screaming her lungs out back with him taking that as a yes. He ran with it and was quick to hold the chain, it dragging him along and nearly knocking him down yet he held on for dear life being scratched here and there. The swing went staggering yet finally stopping with Greenery holding on to the chain so hard you would think they would snap. Sebastian let go, the swing moving side to side only for him to walk to her and open his arms. Greenery did not waste time but jump off and somehow Sebastian stumbled back as he caught her, trying to catch his balance but failing as they all went down, laughter bursting through with Greenery falling on top of Sebastian who lay on the ground. They could not help but laugh even hard not believing what they just went through. Sebastian was laughing at how loud Greenery had been screaming and Greenery too was laughing at herself.
"We are definitely doing that again tomorrow." It was shockingly Greenery pointing this out as they laughed harder.
