Chapter 19

The italics is his dream. I hope you like the final chapter :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The weeks went by, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Harry and Teddy had seemed to have gotten over what had happened, thinking of it only in moments of despair. Teddy seemed to be settling back into the future. But, there's the word 'seemed'. Teddy may have seemed to be and to act fine, but truth be told, he wasn't. He had nightmares most nights about Sirius dying, and then his parents being tortured and slowly dying. Or he'd dream about the childhood he never had; one where he was part of a proper family. Some nights he cried himself to sleep, wishing he could just, for once, have a normal and happy life. But he was a Lupin, normal didn't exist in their world.

The next morning started like any other; visiting the Weasley's. Since it was the summer holidays, he went around most days. And every single time, Molly would make sure he was fed till he was fit to burst. A school friend of Vic's, Kylie, was staying over at Vic's for the summer, and she was at The Burrow for the night.

Kylie, Vic, Teddy, the Weasley kids, and some of the adults had played some Quidditch. The game lasted for hours. Many rounds, injuries and laughs, but soon it was time for tea.

"Dig in everyone." Molly cried happily.

They needn't be told twice, as they all dived at the food. Molly's cooking had gotten even better over the years, and it was even more filling and addictive than ever. Teddy grinned happily at the taste of the food, it was better than anything he'd ever tasted. It was fair to say that Ginny hadn't inherited her mothers cooking skills, and Harry couldn't really cook that much anyway, so going to The Burrow was a great treat for his stomach.

"Teddy, are you sure you don't want more? We have plenty and you could do with getting a little bigger." Molly said, eyeing Teddy over as he pushed his plate away.

"No thanks, I swear I'm going to explode from this much food." Teddy moaned, paying his bulging stomach.

"Are you sure you wouldn't like some more pudding?" she asked.

"Honestly, I feel like I'm pregnant with a food baby." Teddy chuckled. "It might be twins."

"Aw. Congratulations." Vic said. "Who's the father?"

"Well-"

"I think we should stop the conversation there." Molly said quickly.

"Aw, don't you want to know that I'm that father." Kylie said, her voice sad. "It took a lot of effort to make those kids, trust me, I did all the work!"

Teddy, Vic and Kylie burst out laughing, the adults sighing and shaking their head.

"Shall we go to the living room?" Bill said.

"Yes. You all go and get comfy." Molly said. "I'll clean up." As the family filed out into the extended living room, Molly simply waved her wand and the mess instantly disappeared.

The night was filled with many laughs and strange conversations, but it was soon time for bed. Since Teddy was the only boy and the oldest one of the kids, he had his own room. As his eyes closed, a smile crossed his face, he was unnaturally happy. But it didn't last long.

Teddy, Tonks and Remus all sat in their living room. Tonks had just had a beautiful baby boy, baby Teddy. It was weird that older Teddy was still there, but he hadn't been able to be collected, so he stayed.

Older Teddy had bought them a muggle TV, and they were all sitting around watching it. Little Teddy was cuddled up in his mothers arms, suckling quietly, while Remus held her close with one arm. Teddy was sitting alone on an arm chair , smiling happily at the three on the sofa. Suddenly, a bright white light flew through the window; it was a Patronus. The voice of Arthur Weasley came out of it.

"Hogwarts is under attack, we need your help. Come fast to The Hogs Head. We're relying on you."

The silence was thick in the living room as the silver light disappeared.

"Who was that for?" Tonks asked, taking little Teddy away from her breast so she could burp him.

"Me." Remus said. "It'll be for me. I'm sorry Tonks, I have to go help at Hogwarts."

"But Remus-" Tonks cried.

"No, I have to. If this is the chance we get of defeating You-Know-Who, then I've got to take it." Remus said quickly, cutting her off.

"And me. I'm going to." Older Teddy said. "You'll need as much help as you can get."

"No." Tonks breathed, her eyes filling with tears. She put baby Teddy down and stood up, covering her mouth with her sleeve.

"Mum, I have to. For Hogwarts and for the future." Teddy said, looking deeply into her eyes. He quickly kissed her forehead before facing Remus. "I'll see you there dad, good luck."

Teddy left the room, leaving Tonks and Remus to talk. Crying softly, Tonks jumped into his arms, sobbing into his shoulder, hugging him tightly.

"Please don't go. I need you, we need you." She sniffed.

"I know, but I'm also needed elsewhere." Remus said calmly. "But I promise you I'll be fighting for both of you."

Remus cupped her face before bringing kissing her. She kissed him back like her life depended on it, she never wanted to let him go. Remus moved his head back slightly, his eyes opening and looking into her blue ones.

"I love you." He whispered, his breath tickling her face. Stepping backwards, he wished his infant son well and left the house, knowing that if he waited any longer, he wouldn't ever leave.

Teddy walked the isles and isles of dead bodies. Many covered in blood, eyes glassy as lifeless. Most were the unfortunate, innocent students. One unfortunate twin. And a very unfortunate couple. Teddy heard their haunted whispers before even seeing their bodies.

"No...." Teddy gasped. Lying at his feet, were his parents, their hands only millimeters apart. Both as pale and cold as Death itself. He could hear their whispered louder than before.

"You killed us." His father accused inside his mind.

"You made us come here." His mother said.

"You're the reason we're dead. It's all your fault. It's all. Your. Fault!" they hissed venomously.

"No ... no ... stop it. STOP!" Teddy cried, jumping awake. He sat bolt upright, panting hard and covered in sweat. This always happened. Why did it always happen?

Knowing it was pointless to go to sleep, he slipped out of his bed and descended down the stairs, going to sit outside. When he reached outside, he noticed he wasn't alone. A figure was standing staring at the stars a little bit in front of them.

As he approached, the person heard him.

"Beautiful, aren't they." They said; it was Kylie.

"I guess so." Teddy said. "What are you doing out here?"

"Trying to distract myself so I can sleep." She replied. "What about you? Bad Dream?"

"Something like that, yeah." Teddy sighed.

Kylie lay down on the cool grass, Teddy joined her. A soft breeze swirled around the two as they lay in silence, just watching the sky around them. Out of the corner of her eye, Kylie saw a shooting star. Gasping, she pointed at it.

"Quick, make a wish!" she cried excitedly. But Teddy pretended not to hear her.

"I love stars. It's fascinating and calming when you just lie down and stare at them. Make a wish on those that fall." Kylie sighed happily, lying back down.

"The galaxy is made up of things we had not even discovered yet," Teddy said, his voice distant, "stars without names, some with. And each one we look up to we wish upon. We hope that a big luminous sphere of plasma held together by gravity is going to give us what we want." Teddy paused, looking away from the sky and turning his head over to Kylie. "Now that you think about it, it seems kind of idiotic. The world is a strange place, filled with people that hope for things that are far beyond their reach, such as stars. Just like hope, it's overrated and unreachable." Teddy laughed bitterly, his eyes staring back up at the sky, registering every hope-stealing light above them.

"Teddy ... where is this coming from?" Kylie asked, her voice was quiet and scared she'd never heard him speak like that before.

"I wish I didn't remember going back in time. At first I thought it was great, even after all that happened when I left. But then I sat down and realized, that someone decided to screw me over and wave the thing I want the most right in front of my face, but it's something that'll always be out of my reach until I die, till I'm reunited with the family I never knew." Teddy said seriously. A frown on his face as he spoke.

"Teddy ..." Kylie sighed, her hands grazing the side of his face.

"No, Kylie. I hate remembering. Maybe I wanted to know them, but considering they didn't have the privilege to remember me, I don't want to be unfair and remember them. I want to meet them properly, make the reunion more real to." Teddy said quickly. "I'm going to talk to Harry tomorrow when I see him. Goodnight, Ky."

Before she could reply, Teddy had gone. His words had frightened her a little, the way he seemed so willing to wait until he died to meet his parents, it wasn't healthily how serious he sounded. Kylie would have stayed there longer, but it was late and cold, so she decided to go inside and head to bed, and wait to see what tomorrow would bring.

"Harry, can I talk to you?" Teddy asked. It was lunch time on the next day, Teddy had left earlier than usual, saying it was important.

"Yeah, what about Teddy?" Harry replied.

"I want you to wipe my memory." Teddy said after a moment of hesitation.

"What?" Harry cried. "Why?"

"Because I don't want to remember my year back in time. Of course I'm glad I met my parents, what orphan wouldn't be. But knowing that they had no clue of how much fun we had. And it's cruel I should remember when they couln't."

"Teddy, you're being silly." Harry said. "Just move on."

Teddy sighed and shook his head bitterly.

"Do you know what it's like, Harry, to have something you love dearly suddenly ripped away from you, never to see it again?" Tedy said. "Do you feel all the pain you feel? The emptiness and uselessness you feel?"

"Teddy ..." Harry started

"Please. I don't want to remember. And considering the fact I'm technically twenty years old, I should be old enough to make decisions by myself."

Harry just stood there, staring at him.

"Alright. I'll do it. It'll be hard for everyone to understand why because they haven't really lost as much as you have." Harry said eventually. "Just remember them properly, one more time before its goodbye."

Teddy nodded, thinking about the good things that had happened. Slowly opening his eyes, he nodded.

"Ok, do it." Teddy sighed. Harry raised his wand hesitantly. Hands shaking slightly, Teddy closed his eyes and waited.

"Obliviate The Time Travel." Harry said loudly. Teddy instantly fell limply to the floor.

Picking him up gently, Harry took him to his room and lay him on the bed. Leaving him there made him wondered if he had made the right decision.

He obviously hadn't, but it would have been for the best.

If you asked Edward (Teddy) Lupin what he had done for his nineteenth birthday, he'd say he couldn't remember. He didn't remember the entire year. Apparently he had a very bad fall and hit his head, suffering from slight amnesia. It didn't seem right, but it was the only explanation that made sense, so he went with it.

He never did remember the moving drawings. He never did remember messing around with his parents and Sirius. He never did remember seeing the death of Sirius. And most importantly, he never did remember why he felt so lost.

But that's life; we are always, and will forever remain, lost.
