Fly Away Fly Away...

"I'll text you and talk to Courtney about us." Dervik gave Lola a kiss on the cheek and boarded the plane. I stood some ways off, three gates away. Dervik had already said goodbye to Aunt Lou and Uncle John. He didn't know I was here.

As soon as Dervik boarded the plane, Uncle John turned to Lola and started a conversation with a sad smile. I yearned to hear what they were talking about but I couldn't get close enough. I sighed and ducked into a bathroom. Looks like I would need a disguise.

I emerged from the bathroom minutes later and found Uncle John and Lola sitting on a bench, talking. I sat on a bench next to theirs. "Can I continue before you interrupt again?!" Uncle John almost yelled, his patience obviously getting thin.

"Oh okay, sorry." She motioned for him to continue

"Dervik, Reed, Cole, and a couple other guys were in a band. Dervik's sister, Gwen, was having a hard time and met a guy she absolutely loved. This was awhile back." I almost snorted at the 'awhile ago' this was less than a year ago. "Well the guy was in the hospital," Noah?! They were talking about Noah! "and she was besides herself. Dervik was concerned and so he skipped a couple practices, because of Gwen. Reed didn't get what the problem was and got mad. He gave Dervik an ultimatum and told him it was either the band or his sister." Reed did that?! He was such a scumbag, so it really doesn't surprise me but still. The idea of it, shocked me. "So Dervik walked out because who chooses some band over your own flesh and blood? Cole went with him. He was their drummer while Dervik was lead guitar." He handed Lola 5 dollars, "Go get me a Sprite or Sierra Mist. Whatever they have."

Lola got up and quickly walked over to a vending machine to get it. My phone buzzed and I answered it, "Hello?"

"Hey Gwen, it's Cole." Speak of the goddamn devil

"Yea?"

"What no 'I miss you so much I can't wait to suck your face next time we see each other'?"

"You're sick."

"C'mon, you know you love my charm."

I scoffed and saw Lola had come back with the beverage, they had started talking again. "Look, I have to go..."

"You're not getting away that easy. Talk to me. How's it going?"

"Well, I found more evidence."

Cole sighed, he didn't approve. "When are you coming back?"

"A week."

"I have someone- I have a letter you might want to see Gwen. It's important. Really important." He hung up.

"Bye to you too." I turned my attention back towards Uncle Lou and Lola

"What?" Uncle John asked, "The kid was only in the hospital to get surgery. If the doctors did something wrong, he could have been paralyzed. He's still alive. Right? Right."

"Yea... okay."

"Gwennie Bear was in love with him. True love. But everyone thought he was bad for her until their 8th grade dance. Then everyone knew. But they never dated. They never really got together. It was just an idea, a silly idea, of true love. But if you saw them on the street, you would think that they had been together forever."

"Oh why didn't they?" I stood as Lola spoke those poisoned words and walked towards the bathroom to change. I needed to tell Uncle John the truth. He deserved to know.

The crowd of people seemed to scatter like ants and I emerged, "Uncle John, I have to talk to you."

"Okay Gwennie Bear, what's wrong?" He was oblivious to it all

"It's about him. It's about Noah. I'm so sorry Uncle John, I knew you liked him a lot but I need to tell you that... that... He's..." Lola's eyes grew wide at the realization of what I was going to tell him

"No. Gwen, don't. You can't!"

"He's..?" Uncle John choked

"Dead." I whispered, hanging my head

Uncle John started to shake and convulse.

"Uncle John?" I yelled, "Uncle John!! Help!"

--------------

At the hospital, Alan called. I was not in the mood. At all.

"Hey Gwen?"

"Yes."

"It didn't work."

"I could care less."

"Why are you so pissed at me?"

"Because Uncle John is in the hospital."

"What?!"

"I told him. And now I think he's going ot die."

"You know how much he loved that kid, Dammit Gwen!" Something was slammed down on Alan's side of the phone

"I'm sorry, I thought he should know." I responded sarcastically

"Gwen. Are you...? What happened?"

"I just hinted that he's not here and Uncle John fell to the floor and started spazzing."

"Which hospital is he in?" Alan sighed

"The main one on the big island near the capital."

"I'll be there hopefully by tomorrow."

"Okay bye."

"Gwen?"

"Yea."

"Does your mom know?"

"No." I started to choke up

"Do you want her to know?" Alan asked quietly

"No."

"I'll be there."

"Okay."

By the time Alan got to Hawaii, Uncle John was already sitting up, trying to eat a bowl of ice chips. "Am I late?" Alan asked rushing over to where I sat in the lobby

"No."

"Why aren't you in there?"

"Dervik and Aunt Lou think it's for the best."

"I thought Dervik flew home."

"He rerouted his flight and flew back here to help."

"Do you want to be in there?"

"I don't know!" I yelled picking up a packet of crackers and absentmindedly tossing them into the air

"You're not suppose to play with your food." Alan smirked

"I'm not hungry, therefore not food."

"Your logic is completely-"

I burst into tears. It was like Noah all over again! My chest felt like an elephant had decided I would make a nice pillow, pinched and squished. I started gasping for air.

"Gwen?" Alan stood and squatted in front of me, "Gwen!"

I couldn't fell anything. God, how I would kill to feel like this always.

There was a bright light and then it was all black, I lifted my head off of the black surface to find myself laying on Noah's chest. Noah! It was Noah! I could actually feel him there. I hugged him. "Woah Gwen, what's with the death-grip hug? It's not like you haven't seen me in years." He laughed as I recognized the sounds I heard in the background as the audio version of Collar Full from Panic! At The Disco. Not scraping of nails and chalkboards as I had originally thought.

"Noah. You're here?!"

"No? You're here."

"What do you mean?"

"Look around." Noah gestured and I realized. We weren't laying in his bed. We were at the funeral home. At his wake. His black shirt wasn't even a shirt. It was a tux. A black tux. I shot up, standing in the coffin, "What's wrong?" I looked around seeing no one paid us the slightest amount of attention.

"Why aren't they looking at us?"

"They can't see us. Only me."

"Only you?"

"Yea. C'mon." He stood and jumped out of the casket, helping me out. "I've missed you Gwen. I'm glad you finally came." I was dragged towards the back entrance of the building and as I was being taken away, I saw myself. The exact same clothes I had worn to Noah's wake was on my body. But that couldn't be possible. How could I be here and there? There and here? With Noah, and without Noah?

"What's going on? How can I be here and there?"

"That's your body silly. This is your soul." He explained

"So you're not real? I'm not real?" I asked, shocked, as Noah turned to face me, all silliness gone from his face.

"We're dead Gwen."
