"The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise. It is not that we seize them, but that they seize us."
-Ashley Montagu
Rain's POV:
"TOM DID YOU SEE YOUR INBOX?" I yelled, my voice echoing through the house. I was sitting cross legged on the couch, scrolling through my inbox when I saw an email that made me smile. Tom ran over to me, thinking something was wrong.
"Check. Your. Phone." I grinned at him. I watched as he pulled out his phone and read his emails, his eyes tracing the screen in horizontal lines.
"Oh my god!" His hand flew up to his mouth, "Wait did you get one too?!"
I nodded, letting it sink in. I showed him my phone.

Tom finished reading the email and then showed me his, identical, email.
"I'm excited. We're going right?" I asked.
"DUH" Tom scooped me up in his arms and spun me around.
~Time Skip 6 months~
"Tom? Are you almost ready?" I said, looking at my wristwatch and tapping my foot on the parquet impatiently.
"Yeah" I heard a voice from the back of the house and then the backyard door shut, "I can't find my cord for the laptop!"
"I have both of them, relax and let's go. If we miss our flight it's going to be all bad" I snickered at his cluelessness.
"Okay I'm ready" Tom appeared from behind the corner, putting his jacket on. I grabbed my suitcase and he grabbed his and we were out the door. The Uber that I had ordered was already out front, the driver looking impatient. He helped us place our bulging suitcases in the trunk. Mine was purple colored and Tom's was a solid black. Tom held the car door open for me and I gave him a slight nod, signaling that I appreciated the gesture. The drive to the airport took a good hour but we made it just in time. Tom and I knew our way around LAX so well because we both had flown so many times before from this building, it was absurd.
"Gate 78 is this way" Tom pointed, the suitcase rolling behind him. We reached the gate in silence, our chests rising and falling at a synchronized beat.
"Phew" Tom breathed out as he collapsed on a black leather chair and plugged his iPhone into the charger below his seat. I sat down next to him, my legs crossed. I was wearing a simple pair of grey sweatpants with a blue shirt. I had a jacket tied around my carry on backpack just in case it was cold in the cabin. Tom, in turn, was dressed in a pair of jeans and his signature Illuminatee from the Syndicate clothing store.
"When do we board?" I asked, looking around and not seeing a giant tabloid with all the times. Tom pulled out our boarding passes from his back pocket and stared at them.
"4:15" he extended his hand to show it to me. I glanced down at my watch.
"It's four. We'll be boarding soon" and right when I said that, the flight attendant picked up the radio and announced boarding. Tom and I decided for economy class instead of business because the flight was only an hour long. We decided on United because their airplanes were usually the most comfortable for short travel distances.
We found our seats in the middle of the cabin and sat down. It only took about twenty minutes for everybody to be seated and for the plane to be rolling out onto the runway. Tom was glancing out the window but I was staring straight into the seat in front of me. I hated liftoff. It always seemed to me like so many things could go wrong during liftoff. Tom, on the other hand, loved it and was always fascinated by all the mechanics of the airplane and how tons of steel could fly in the air. I think that's what scared me the most.
Besides my worries, we were up in the air in no time, soaring high, leaving the busy streets of LA behind, heading towards the equally busy streets of San Francisco. I think I dozed off because by the time I woke up we were about to touch down at the SFO International Airport.
"We're here already?" I asked, my voice sleepy.
"Morning" Tom replied, having the same sleepy expression on his face, "I fell asleep too".
We loaded off the plane and grabbed our luggage off the carousel and were now sitting outside of the airport, waiting for our Uber. Once we had gotten to our hotel and walked into the lobby we bumped into Tucker and Sonja, long time friends of the both of us.
"Hey!" Sonja gave me a quick hug while Tucker and Tom bro hugged it beside us.
"Fancy seeing you here" Tom gave a side hug to Sonja and I greeted Tucker. We talked for a couple of minutes and set up some dinner plans for after the second day of the convention at a small Italian Restaurant off of Market street. Tom and I headed up to our room, I just wanted to take a shower and upload today's video and then relax.
When I got out of the shower, the small hotel room was filled with a dainty smell of... Burning chicken?
"Tom?!" I ran into the kitchen only to see the oven smoking and Tom running around frantically looking for the fire extinguisher.
"Never! Let! Me! Cook! Again!" He yelled, breathing heavily. We were successful in putting out the fire that was about to start and then we disposed of the charred chicken.
Tom and I ended up having some Mac&Cheese while watching reruns of Once Upon A Time. It wasn't a bad night.
