CHAPTER ONE.
new beginnings.

CYNTHIA YOUNG WAS APPLYING HER BRIGHT RED christian louboutin lipstick when she heard the distinct ring of her cell phone. She rolled her doe brown eyes in pure annoyance and closed the lipstick cap over the lipstick. Before going to her phone, Cynthia rubbed her lips together and made a pop noise. She stepped over her piles of clothes, stretching her arm out and grabbing her phone. Reading that the number was Luna, she answered. "Yes, my best friend?" Cynthia's voice was laced with fake enthusiasm, something her brunette friend could tell from four words. Out of all her friends, Luna and Cynthia were the closest, and that's why they were mean to each other. But all in fun games.

Luna made a weird noise before responding to her friend, "I am waiting outside of your lavish and extra house, Cece. Come down now." She hung up the phone, Cynthia scoffing and putting her phone into her purse. She glanced around her room one more time, before nodding her head and exiting her room. Luna wasn't wrong, her house was extremely extra and lavish. Her mother is an interior designer, so their house was high end. Her father owned multiple companies, so that was another reason why they had so much. Cynthia wasn't really a spoiled brat, she was more thankful for what she had. Every once in a while, she would splurge and go shopping. But that only happened every few months, because she was saving for college.

Cynthia's heals clicked on the marble stairs, and continued to as she left her house. She knew her parents were already at work, so there was no reason to say bye to people who weren't there anyway. She closed the rather large wooden door, grabbing her keys out of her purse and locking the door. Her hair blew in the wind, so anyone could see her beautiful tan skin shining in the bright sun. With one honk of a horn, Cynthia jumped in fright. She squinted her eyes and turned around, seeing Lunas car. She assumed Kelly was in the back seat, another one of her close friends. Luna and Cynthia were the more hardcore girls, while Kelly just hung back.

Cynthia opened the passenger can door and slid into the car. "Fucking bitch." She mumbled, Luna wearing a grin as she drove off. The brunette girl said hi to Kelly, who wore a smile and said it back.

"Okay, Cece." Luna started, stopping at the red light and looking at her friend. "Cut to the chase, what's up with you and Tyler Lockwood?"

Cynthia scoffed, shaking her head. "There's nothing going on between Tyler and i. We kissed like...twice and that was it. He is chasing that druggie Vicki." It was true, there was nothing with the boy and girl. Cynthia didn't really like Vicki, not because of Tyler but more of the fact that she would influence Kelly a lot. Vicki and Kelly were very close, and that's why she didn't say much about the brunette around her friend. The only reason Kelly got into drugs was because of her, so Cynthia had an on going hatred for her pretty much.

The red light turned green, and Luna went to drive before a crow flew in front of the car. Luna stepped on the breaks harshly, Cynthia flying forward but not getting far because of the seat belt. Kelly squealed, the three silent for a minute. "What the fuck was that?" Luna breathed out, eyes wide as she looking in the mirror to see if Kelly was okay. Once she nodded, she looked over as Cynthia.

"It was a bird or something, i don't know. Just continue driving, please." Cynthia voice was soft, not wanting to talk about it anymore. One secret that no one knew was why she hated cars so much. Luna and Kelly had asked her multiple times, but she would just dismiss it and change the conversation.

"So are you sure that you and Tyler aren't a thing?" Luna broke the silence. Cynthia shot her friend a hard glare, "Sorry, sorry. Won't ask again." Kelly was just looking at the two with a bored look on her face. Anyone could see the bags under her eyes and the dreary vibe she gave off. A vibe only people with drugs in their system gave off.

Within a few minutes, the three arrived at Mystic Falls high school. Cynthia looked at the main building in disgust, always hating school. The only reason she tried was because she knew that college would be closer, and everything would be better when she could leave that god awful town she had been in for her whole life.

Cynthia unbuckled, opening the door and getting out of the car. Not even a minute after they all got out, Kelly was off and walking towards the back of the school. "I swear if Kelly ends of overdosing and dying because of Vicki giving her drugs, i'm going to kill the bitch." Luna's voice was sharp and bitchy, like she always spoke when talking about the Donovan girl. Cynthia hooked arms with her, the two now walking at the same time.

"And i'll help you. I don't know why Matt doesn't try and help at least a little more, Vicki and Kelly are going to get hurt." Cynthia told, eyes wondering around the outside area before the entrance to school. She was looking for anyone new, someone she could talk about and become friends with. Although Cynthia was usually a bitch and quite straight forward, everyone loved her. No matter what group you were in, you loved Cynthia.

Once they got into the schools main hallway, Luna and Cynthia parted ways. They usually don't see each other during school, because Luna was older and didn't have the same classes, plus she had upper classman friends. So Cynthia did what she would do every year; find Elena Gilbert. The two were good friends, but drifted a little bit over the summer. She didn't really mind though, because she knew about her parents accident and how it must've taken a toll on her and her brother.

Cynthia smiled to herself when she spotted Elena and Bonnie at one of their lockers. She strutted over to the two, tapping Elena's shoulder softly. The brunette jumped slightly, turning around. Her gaze softened when she realized it was her friend, and let her hug her. Elena absolutely missed Cynthia, and hated that she pushed her away over the summer. Bonnie and Cynthia were also close, just not as close as she was with Elena. When the two were children, Elena was constantly at Cynthia's house. They played for hours a day, and were pretty much inseparable.

Cynthia let go of Elena and gave her a sad smile, "Hi, Lena. How are you?" Elena sighed, nodding her head and trying to wear a smile.

"I'm doing better, thank you for asking." Elena answered, Cynthia nodding once and saying hi to Bonnie who returned the favor. She wanted to change the subject, and her face went from sad to her normal perky self. "So, what are you girls talking about?" She followed the stare of Elena to the one and only Matt Donovan.

Elena spoke three words, "He hates me."

Cynthia scoffed, looking back at Elena, "Honey, Matt does not hate you. He still loves you, Lena. Give him time, he'll come around." Elena nodded, but you could see she wasn't fully convinced. When she broke up with Matt, Cynthia remembered how sad he was. The blue eyed boy would walk around like a lost puppy and wore this sad look oh his face.

Bonnie started rambling about something as the three of them left the locker and continued walking around. A few people waved at Cynthia, and she did the same with a smile across her face. If she wanted everyone to like her, she had to be nice. It wasn't that she wasn't nice, but sometimes Cynthia could be quite the opposite.

Bonnie put her arm up, stopping Elena and Cynthia from continuing to walk. "Hold up, who's that?" She faced the same way her friend was, and wore a confused look. All she was seeing was someone's back. He was wearing normal jeans and a leather jacket, why was he so special?

Elena shrugged, "All i see is back."

"It's a hot back." Cynthia rolled her eyes at her friend, tilting her head towards the mysterious boy. It was obvious he was new, but there was an odd vibe she was getting from him. She couldn't place her finger on it, but there was something weird about him. It was like Cynthia was familiar with what she was looking at, but that didn't make sense so she dismissed it.

"I'm sensing Seattle, and he plays the guitar." Bonnie spoke in a hushed but loud voice. Cynthia laughed, shaking her head with a smile.

Elena rose an eyebrow at Bonnie, "You're really going to run this whole psychic thing into the ground, huh?" Before Cynthia could ask Elena what she was talking about, she was walking with passion the other way. She glanced at Bonnie, who was in a trance of some sort. Cynthia scoffed silently, walking away to where her locker was. It wasn't far, so she got to it pretty quickly.

She opened the small locker, placing her textbook from her purse on a shelf and closing the locker. Cynthia squeezed her eyes together in fright when she saw Tyler Lockwood leaning on someone's locker. She glared at him, putting her purse back on her arm. "What do you need, Tyler?"

Tyler picked himself up, shrugging his shoulders. "Just wanted to check up on you, wanted to make sure you were okay after..." He didn't continue, gulping at the fuming look he was getting from her. Usually Cynthia wasn't scary, but there were those moments when she was absolutely terrifying. This was one of those moments.

Cynthia stepped closer to him, "Don't mention that ever again, you understand?" Tyler nodded, opening his mouth to speak but was interrupted by hers, "I thank you for asking how i am, but it isn't your concern anymore. We aren't a thing anymore, and i don't need your sympathy." With that, she turned around and walked towards her class. She tried not to think about what he was talking about, but all the images kept flashing through her mind. The car, the sirens, the blood all over her face and body, and his eyes stone cold.

Cynthia gasped as she ran into someone, almost falling to the floor. She looked up, and sighed out because it was Elena. "Elena, sorry about that. I was definitely in a different world—what are you doing near the boys bathroom?"  Elena opened her mouth to speak, but didn't know what to say. She didn't understand why she couldn't answer her, but then followed the gaze of her friend. Her dark brown eyes landed on a pair of blueish green ones, her breath caught in her throat.

"Sorry, i didn't know Lena was talking to someone." Cynthia coughed awkwardly, giving Elena a look. The brunette nodded slowly, saying bye before walking away with Cynthia.

As the two walked away, Stefan Salvatore, the mystery boy watched them turn the corner. He came to mystic falls to meet Elena, but right when he saw Cynthia, he knew that he knew her from somewhere. He just couldn't place his finger on it.

...

School passed by extremely fast, Cynthia not really paying attention in her classes. She was a good student, and didn't really need to put effort in school. Everything came easier to her, so she only took a few color coded notes and let herself space out. Her mind was on the new boy most of the time, as it was now. His eyes were so entrancing, she felt herself being consumed by his stare. Cynthia couldn't tell if she liked it or was scared of it.

"Cynthia!" She jumped at the loud sound of Caroline Forbes saying her name. Bonnie, Caroline and her were at the Mystic Grill waiting for Elena to come. After school ended, Cynthia was going to go home with Luna, but she said she has family problems and the red head didn't want to get involved in it. Lunas family was very...aggressive in a way.

"Sorry, i spaced out. I have no idea what you were talking about." Cynthia was straight forward, not remembering anything that the blonde said.

Caroline sighed dramatically about to re state everything she just said, "His name is Stefan Salvatore. He lives with uncle up at the old Salvatore Boarding House. He hasn't lived here since he was a kid. Military family, so they moved around a lot. He's a Gemini, and his favorite color is blue." Cynthia's mouth opened at all the information that she got. Yeah, Cynthia was good at getting information. But she definitely wouldn't of gotten all that.

"You got all that in one day?" Bonnie asked in shock, taking a sip of her soda.

"Oh, please," The blonde scoffed, flipping her hair, "I got all that between third and fourth period. We're planning a June wedding."

Cynthia rolled her eyes, "I'm not even surprised, Care. You probably know more about my life then i know." Bonnie laughed at this, Caroline giving her a playful glare.

Cynthia fell into a comfortable silence, Bonnie and Caroline talking about something random. The brunette let her eyes go around the grill, then back to her drink. She saw it was empty, and sighed. Cynthia stood up and walked over to the bar area. No, she didn't drink. But the people who worked there loved her, probably because of the insane amount of tips she gives the workers.

Matt Donovan saw Cynthia, rubbing the back of his neck before slowly walking to her. "How's Elena doing?" Cynthia shot her head in his direction, giving him a small smile to acknowledge he was there. She said thank you to the man who re filled her drink, and went back to Matt.

"She's sad, anyone could see that plastered on her face. Lena does a good job of hiding it, but she's definitely not happy." Cynthia answered honestly, looking back at the table they were at for a second.

He nodded, "Has she said anything about me?"

Cynthia laughed humorously, shaking her head, "Not doing this Matt. I'm not going to get into Matt and Elena drama, call her yourself and ask."

"I feel weird calling her." Matt sighed honestly, "She broke up with me." The red head took a breathe in, understanding what he was saying.

"I know it's hard, trust me. But you just have to give it time, and maybe things will change. You never know, Matt." Cynthia put her hand on his shoulder, giving it a slight squeeze. He smiled back at her, before frowning at something behind her. She rose a brow, looking back and seeing Stefan and Elena walk in. Together.

     "More time, huh?"

Cynthia didn't know what to say, but give him a reassuring look and walking away with her drink. She made her way to the table, Elena and Stefan already sitting and talking to the other girls. "So you guys are just going to leave me hanging like that?" Her voice alerted the whole table, everyone looking up at her. Cynthia put her drink down on the table, sitting back at her seat.

"I'm Cynthia, and i assume you are the one and only Stefan Salvatore i've been hearing about all day." Stefan looked between Caroline and Cynthia in confusion. A light blush covered the Forbes girls face, the brunette smiling in accomplishment. In the end, he nodded with a smile.

"So, you were born in Mystic Falls?" Caroline was the first one to speak after them, her eyes not leaving Stefan's face. Cynthia could tell she already wanted to go after him, but Elena already beat her to it.

Stefan hummed, "And moved when I was still young."

     "Parents?"

"My parents passed away." Suddenly Cynthia's face fell, feeling bad for him instantly. One thing that she didn't play around with was death. Cynthia hated death, people wearing all black at funerals and all the people asking if you are okay when they know damn well you aren't.

"I'm sorry. Any siblings?" Elena leaned her head on her hand, waiting for an answer.

Stefan seemed uncomfortable answering at first, then did, "None that I talk to. I live with my uncle." Cynthia assumed that he did have at least one, because he didn't deny it fully. But obviously he didn't want to talk about it, and she respected that.

"So, Stefan, if you're new, then you don't know about the party tomorrow." Caroline brought up, a rather large grin on her face. Cynthia rolled her eyes at her attempt to ask him to go, because obviously he was going to ask Elena if she was going.

"It's this back to school thing that our school does," Cynthia explained, "It's really just an excuse to drink and make out with people all night. But if you avoid the drunks and people sucking each other's face, it's a good time." Bonnie and Elena laughed at their friends explanation that was oddly perfect.

Stefan smiled as he looked at Elena, "Are you going?"

Before she could say no, Cynthia spoke again. "Of course Lena is, i won't let her miss it." Elena glared daggers at her friend, but smiled nothing less. Cynthia had a plan, and that was to get Elena and Stefan together. Although she had to admit that he was hot, he definitely wasn't her type. She felt bad for Caroline, who was leaning back in her chair with a sad look plastered on her fair skinned face. But you couldn't deny it, Elena and Stefan looked like they were meant to be.
