Terrors & Training

Black darkness surrounds you from all sides

A haunting scream pierces the dark and you run at it.

A terrifying monster stands before you.

Pitch black fur, and- 7 sets of wicked overbiteing canines.

A young girl's broken body lies at its feet. Blood drips from it's mouth and the trees around you.

Something inside you snaps, and you lunge for the beast. It disappears into a cloud of gray smoke, and you cough, the harsh chemical air filling your lungs.

You fall to the ground, and when you get up, hot, sticky blood coats your tunic, skin and pants.

Shakily, you run out of the smoke, and trip, slipping on a body of what seems to be a genetically modified gorgon. It wakes up, screaming a terrible-

I woke up, thrashing violently. I bit down on my wrist, hard to keep from screaming. The haunted eyes of the elves I had killed were coming for me anytime I closed my eyes.My subconscious always forced me to remember the events that had taken place in that wretched arena. Shivering, I got up and smiled, seeing how sprawled out Rue slept. I silently snuck out of the room, and wandered around the hideout until I found the training room. I played a holographic tape, of a goblin. The hologram projected in the middle of the room. I chose a lightweight- yet sharp sword. I read the weapon name.

"Foil" sword. I bet Rue could tell me all about it, maybe I could ask her later. I stepped into the circle painted into the floor, and the goblin charged at me. I deflected his blows, easily darting around his forceful attacks. However, when I tried to strike, I made almost every hit. The hours blurred by, and at some point Darius had joined, and was practicing with goblin throwing stars. After I had scored 100 hits, the projection stopped. It played back all of my moves, and showed me some flaws in my defense. I was about to start another round, when the device I was given buzzed. I picked it up, and it unlocked. Fintan's face filled the screen. "Team Pyren, I have your first mission."

I immediately asked him to hold for 5 minutes, so I could get my team ready. I quickly waved over Darius, and he went to get ready with Augie. I was already wearing standard uniform, so I woke up Rue, toasted some waffles and set up the meeting room. I casted from the device so that Fintan could see us, and we could see him. Rue came in, everything in her uniform flawless, except for her frizzy red hair and safety goggles. Darius and Augie came in, seconds later. I called Fintan back, and we munched on waffles while he talked.

"Team Pyren, and Captain Wolf. I trust you are in uniform?"

"Of course, sir." I replied calmly, as if my whole being wasn't vibrating with anticipation.

"Good. Your mission, is to secure Councilor Bronte's cache."

"... Yes sir."

"I expect you all to wear your masks. Have any of you began training?"

"Yes, me and Carcal."

Fintan gave an approving nod. "2/4 is acceptable for now. I have dropped off leaping crystals, smoke bombs, cloaks, and your new masks. I expect them to be used properly."

Then he logged of the call, leaving me in the room with some very dumbfounded teamates. "Well then, everyone suit up!" I said with a shrug.
