Speechless
I feel like that last chapter went pretty well. It just shows how far our little Amber has really come in terms of development. Think of it, she started out as this socially awkward and shy girl who was just afraid to talk to anyone. And now she's talking normally, even yelling, not afraid of anything and kicking some serious ass. I'd say she's had the most character development out of any other character in any of my series other than my original OC for my My Hero Academia series "Class 1-B's Ace." But now, let's get back into some of the actual events that happen in RWBY, with one of the most heartbreaking moments in the entire series. Enjoy!
-Point of View: Leena-
With Amber winning her match against Sun, she was now moving on to the next round of the one-on-one finals. She came by to sit with us until she had to battle again, and now everyone on my team and team RWBY were just waiting to see who was up next. I kinda feel like it's unfair when we're all watching these matches. Everyone else is stuck in the stands, watching from a distance. But for me, I've been using my semblance this whole time and zooming in to watch the matches up close. I feel like i'm right there in the fight myself sometimes. "Now that was one hell of a way to start of the one-on-one finals, wouldn't you all agree!?" Professor Port asked everyone in the crowd as we all cheered and whistled. He was right though, that first match was stellar. And i'm sure the next one would be even better. "I agree just like everyone else, Peter. Now let's move on to our next battle. Roll the fighters!" Doctor Ooblek said as the screens around the colosseum began to rotate through all the remaining fighters. Appearing on the left side of the screens was the first fighter, and a tough one at that. It was Mercury. And soon after, the second half of the screen stopped and revealed his opponent. "Our second battle will be between Yang Xiao Long and Mercury Black!" Port shouted as the crowd started cheering even louder. "Woah! This'll definitely be a close one, that's for sure! I can't pick a winner here!" I said as drake agreed with me. "You're not wrong. Yang's been able to overpower all her opponents with her brute strength, but seeing how Mercury fought in the doubles round, it's going to be really close." Drake said as we all agreed with him. We then watched as both fighters made their ways onto the centre battlefield. It raised itself up, separating from the outer layer of the battlefield.
"Break a leg, sis!" Ruby yelled to her sister. The spotlights around the arena lit up, illuminating the battlefield and the combatants. Using my semblance, I could see Yang and Mercury were talking to each other. I just wish my semblance would let me here things that I zoomed in on. They both then took ready stances as their fight was about to commence. "3...!" Professor Port started to say as Yang and Mercury began to inch their way closer to each other. "2... 1...!" Port said as Yang and Mercury were nearly touching each others hands at this point. "BEGIN!!" Port screamed as they both went for their attacks. Yang pulled back her right arm and swung it forward. Mercury countered by swinging his right leg around. Their attacks collided and they created a powerful shockwave that sent them both sliding backwards. Mercury was the first to make a move, making a dash for Yang who was trying to regain her balance. Yang was able to and she did a flip over Mercury, landing right behind him. She then fired off a shotgun blast from her left gauntlet, but Mercury was able to dodge out of the way. He closed the distance between himself and Yang and he went for a roundhouse kick, aimed at Yang's head. Yang met his attack head on, punching at Mercury's boot as it swung by. They sent each other backwards yet again. Yang then went for a different approach, firing off several concussive blasts at Mercury. He rolled out of the way, narrowly avoiding them. He then flipped into the air, headed straight for Yang. When he got close, he went to strike her with an overhead axe-kick. Yang blocked the attack by bringing both of her arms together over her head. Mercury slammed his boot down onto them but Yang was able to push him off. Yang then tried to hit Mercury as he landed, using shotgun blasts since he was so close. Mercury landed right in front of Yang and quickly ducked underneath her fists as she fired from her gauntlets. When Yang was open, Mercury capitalized and did a flip-kick, hitting Yang square in the jaw. He sent her flying backwards but she was able to land on her feet and keep on fighting.
Yang fired another concussive blast at Mercury and he countered by firing a wind Dust shot from his left boot. The two shots collided, creating a small explosion in the centre of the arena. It was a stalemate in terms of ammo power. Obviously they both figured this out as they both ran for each other. Mercury made the first move again, going for a sweeping kick, trying to trip Yang up. She jumped over his leg as it went under her and she followed it up by ramming her left fist down at Mercury. Mercury used his hands to flip himself away, just barely dodging Yang's attack. This left Yang open again though and Mercury went in to strike. While Yang was still crouched from punching the ground, Mercury raised his right leg high into the air and brought it down with tremendous force. Yang rolled out of the way before it could hit her, but the kick hit the ground and shattered parts of the arena floor. However, this attack then left Mercury open for Yang to capitalize. As he was getting up, Yang ran up and hit him in the face with her left elbow. She then followed it up by ramming her right fist into his chest and firing off a shotgun blast. She sent him backwards and he landed on his front side. Yang continued her assault and fired two concussive blasts from her gauntlets. Mercury flipped himself back up and dodged the first one. But the second one, while he did dodge it, landed near him. The force from it made him fall backwards and off of the arena. But as everyone started to think it was all over, Mercury proved us all wrong. He thrusted his legs downward and fired off two shots from his boots. He launched himself back up to the arena and he was allowed to keep on fighting. Yang was caught off guard by this and Mercury was able to run up and hit her in the face with a roundhouse kick. She stayed on her feet but the attack made her stumble backwards. Mercury flipped away from her a bit and then he fired off two wind Dust shots from his boots. Yang jumped out of the way of them and regained her balance as she faced Mercury.
Mercury however, looked like he thought of a brilliant idea. Or, at least that's what I thought since I could see his facial expressions so easily. He then raised up one of his legs into the air and he began to spin around using his other leg he was standing on. As he spun, he fired off dozens of wind Dust shots from his boots. The shots were all moving around the arena, looking like they were forming a tornado. When Mercury finished, he charged Yang. She went to punch him in the face but Mercury fell to his knees as she did that. He then did another flip-kick, hitting her in the jaw again and sending her a few feet into the air. Mercury then jumped up, going over Yang and hitting her back down to the ground with another hard kick. And then, Mercury brought his right leg down in mid-air, and this made all the shots circling the arena come crashing down where Yang was laying. She was bombarded by all the shots and most likely, she wouldn't be able to hang on. Mercury, having landed at this point, started to walk away. He looked a bit cocky doing it though as he made a gesture which was him brushing off dust from his shoulders. However, what he hadn't noticed yet was that the final buzzer hadn't gone off yet. And he found this out when Yang literally exploded in the centre of the arena. She stood back up and activated her semblance, increasing her strength immensely. Mercury turned back around to face her, readying for whatever she threw at him. I could see Yang's eyes were red, meaning she wasn't holding back anymore. She launched herself over to Mercury using her gauntlets. Mercury barely had anytime to react as Yang was right up on him in the blink of an eye. She threw a hard punch at him and Mercury went to block it with both of his arms. She struck and sent him sliding back on his feet. She then followed up with a flurry of powerful punches mixed with some shotgun blasts. Mercury wasn't able to fight back at all. Yang then landed a solid shot to Mercury's chest and then followed it up with a bone-breaking smash hit to his face. Mercury went down and he was barely moving. And then, the sound we were all waiting for went off. The final buzzer. "Mercury Black is eliminated by aura depletion! Yang Xiao Long wins!" Oobleck announced as the crowd, and all of us went nuts.
Yang raised one arm into the air in victory and then began to wave to the crowd. "Way to go, sis!" ruby yelled as she jumped out of her seat. "Oh man, I thought Yang was done for. I'm amazed she was able to take that many hits from Mercury and still pull off the win." I said as everyone agreed with me. I still had my semblance on and I saw Yang had said something to Mercury, while giving him a smile. She then began to walk away, but as she was doing that, I watched Mercury stand back up. What I saw next shocked the hell out of me. I saw Mercury start to run and then jump at Yang, going for a flying kick while she had her back turned. "Yang, watch out!" I yelled as she turned and punched Mercury in the knee. He went down and cradled his probably broken knee. He began to scream in pain as Yang had her fists ready to hit him again. The crowd began to boo, at what I could assume was Mercury's desperate attempt to hurt Yang. But as I started to look around the arena at all the people, I found out what they were really booing at. I saw one of the screens and it was showing a replay of what happened. Mercury was already standing up, mere feet from Yang. And Yang turned around and simply shot his leg as he was completely defenseless. "What? That's not what happened! That didn't happen at all! Didn't any of you see what really happened!?" I asked my teammates as they all looked stunned. I then tried to ask team RWBY but they all had the same expressions. "Guys, come on! You all saw what really happened, right!?" I asked them as they nodded. "Why... Why would she do something like that?" Amber asked as she sounded frightened. "What? She didn't attack Mercury for no reason! I saw him try and attack her!" I said as Drake put his hand on my shoulder. "Leena, stop! This isn't the time or place to say things like that! We wait and talk to Yang about what happened. I don't want to believe what I just saw, but it's also not easy to believe what you're saying. We'll figure this out later." Drake said to me as my heart nearly dropped and shattered on the ground. "What? Did you really not see what Mercury tried to do?" I asked as I was nearly on the verge of crying. "What I saw was Yang hurt him while he just stood there and took it. But I know Yang, and I know she wouldn't just do something like that. There's got to be a reason why this happened." Drake said as I looked back down to Yang.
At this point, Atlas soldier drones had rushed onto the arena and surrounded her. Emerald ran out there two and was holding Mercury, trying to ease his pain. "Why'd she do that!? Why'd she attack me!?" We heard Mercury yell as he was still cradling his broken leg. "Yang Xiao Long, stand down!" The soldier drones said as she lowered her arms back down. She was then escorted out of the arena, the crowd booing her the whole time. Mercury was then taken out of the arena on a stretcher, and according to what we all heard, he was airlifted to his family back in Mistral. We also heard that Emerald went along with him. And this whole time, I didn't know what to think of the situation. It's like me and Yang were the only ones to see Mercury try and attack her. But 2 voices aren't greater than thousands. No matter what either of us would try and say, the people would most likely not believe us. The rest of the matches were cancelled for the rest of the day after that event happened. Hopefully tomorrow, all this would be a thing of the past. Me and my team left along side team RWBY. But none of us said a single word to each other the entire time until we made it back to our rooms. And we decided we'd go and see Yang in the morning, most likely when she would've calmed down from the experience. I felt like I needed to talk to her more than anyone, because it seems that out of thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands, I was the only one to have possibly seen what had really happened.
