Sorry for the delay in this chapter! The My Hero Academia just became free to watch online, without having to subscribe to some random channel. I had to make content on that first. Since it's my most popular series, it takes priority over all my other series. But now that i'm finished it and the most recent canon chapter, I can get back into RWBY. We're quickly nearing the end of volume one and things are going to start heating up once again. I'm most excited for when we get to the end of volume 2 and the vytal festival in volume 3. Lots of action there. Enjoy!
-Time Skip: 2 Days-
At this point, our semester was going quite well. Me and my team seemed to be getting along nicely and we've been strengthening our relationships with the other teams as well. Well, mostly anyway. Weiss from team RWBY always seems to do her own thing, declaring that her way is right. I felt a little bad for Ruby, having to lead her team. As for Jaune, his depression only seemed to increase as the days went by. He hasn't come to neither me or Pyrrha about aiding him and it seems he's been with Cardin more often now. It's starting to worry me and even Leena is noticing his struggles. I'm nearing the end of my patience when it came to Cardin and his team. If he did anything else to piss me off, I would probably snap. Here's hoping things went well for today because today we were going on a field trip in Glynda's class. We were told we were headed to a location called the "Forever Fall." Supposedly, the way the trees grow make it seem like it's the season of Autumn all year round. The leaves are constantly red in colour and they're falling off and growing back on the trees near instantly. It sounded pretty interesting if you asked me. I had no clue what we'd be doing there but I was just hoping it would be a little fun and take my mind off of some of the issues lately.
When we arrived, myself, Cardin and Jaune were volunteered to carry some boxes filled with sample jars. I gladly helped out but I watched as Cardin handed his over to Jaune. Jaune didn't seem to argue back for though. "I don't know if I can watch anymore." I thought as I walked with the rest of the group through the forest. The trees were exactly as I pictured, covered in leaves of every shade of red. And as Glynda said, they were falling everywhere and regrowing on the trees. "Yes students, the forest of Forever Fall is indeed beautiful, but we are not here to sight see. Professor Peach has asked for all of you to collect samples from the trees deep inside this forest. And i'm here to make sure that none of you die while doing so." Glynda explained as she stopped walking. Everyone in the group followed her lead and stopped as well. "Each of you is to gather one jars worth of red sap. However, this forest is full of the creatures of Grimm. So be sure to stay by your teammates. We will rendezvous back here at 4 o'clock. Have fun." Glynda said as I put down my box of jars. My team and Ruby's team all took our jars and we headed deeper into the forest. But as we began walking, I looked behind me to see where team JNPR was headed. Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren all followed us as well after getting their jars but Jaune went along with team CRDL instead. "Jeez, Cardin's really got him on a leash. I hope he'll be ok." I said as Leena put her hand on my shoulder. "It's his decision. He has to learn to do what is right and follow his instincts. It's not like there's always gonna be someone to step in for him." She said to me as I nodded in agreement. "I know. It's just that it pains me to see him be bullied like this." I said as Temair agreed with me. "I feel the same. As a Faunus, and i'm sure Amber can agree with me, we are always seen as inferior. We're looked at as outsiders all the time. I've learned to just ignore the comments. I'm sure Amber has done similar actions." He said as I looked to Amber. Her face was bright red again but she was giving us some nods. "It's ok to say what's on your mind, Amber. We're a team now. Just... speak up." I said to her. "O-Oh! I-I'm sorry! It's just... I still feel so uncomfortable around so many people!" She said as I looked around. I guess having team RWBY nearby made her a little more shy. Our teammates are the only people Amber will really talk to other than a teacher asking her a question of course. "Don't worry. We'll break you out of your shell in no time. You'll be as chatty as Leena. Or maybe even more so as Nora." I said as Amber started to laugh. "See? That's the spirit. Now let's go. We'll finish this quick and maybe, we won't run into any Grimm." I said as we headed deeper into the forest.
"Well, this looks like a good spot. What do you think?" Ruby asked me. "Sure, why not? What about you guys? Ok if we settle here?" I asked team JNPR as they all nodded in agreement. "Alright. Let's get this over with." I said as I looked for a tree that was producing lots of sap. "Here's a good one. Hey, this tree's got lots of sap on it! Someone else can get some here too!" I said to everyone as they all looked. The only other person to come over was Pyrrha though. It looked like everyone else had found a tree. Ren and Nora had found a tree for themselves and were already filling their jars. Or, I should say Ren was filling the jars. Nora was just standing by and eating the sap when Ren would hand the jar to her. It was actually kind of funny. But I soon took my attention back off of them and back over to Pyrrha while I filled my jar. "So... Has Jaune said much in the past couple of days?" I asked her as she put her head down and sighed. "No. Lately he's been coming back to our room much later than he's supposed to. I'm worried that he's gotten into something regrettable with Cardin. I just wish he would've let us help him." Pyrrha said. "I know the feel. Ever since me and Leena were attacked by a Grimm when we were kids, we just wanted to become stronger and stand up for those who weren't. And, i'm not saying Jaune isn't strong... But he's clearly struggling. I want to step in so bad but he's gotta make the big decision. And until he does... We just have to let him be." I explained as Pyrrha smiled at me. "You really have a way with words, you know?" She said to me as I started to laugh. "Thanks. Leena says that often, too. Now, I should see if we've got any unwanted guests around." I said as I activated my semblance so I could feel if there were any Grimm nearby. I couldn't see or feel any Grimm within my range but I did feel something quickly rushing for the back of my head. Before I could even turn to look behind me, I reached out behind my back and caught something in my left hand. I turned my head and saw it was a full jar of red sap. I stood up and took a look around to see who threw it at me. Everyone was still busy working on their trees, so this really confused me. "I don't feel like anyone here would pull such a childish prank like that. Well, maybe Ruby or Nora but they seem to be occupied." Pyrrha explained as I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. I quickly turned my head right and I saw team CRDL running away over a hill. "That does it! I've had it with them!" I said as I handed Pyrrha the jar of sap. I then took off after team CRDL, leaving Pyrrha and the rest of the group behind.
It didn't take long for me to catch up to team CRDL. They had stopped maybe 100 metres away from where they ran off of. I saw Jaune with them too but he was laying on his back on the ground. I watched as Cardin picked him up by the front of his sweatshirt, raising his fist into the air. "I'm gonna make sure they send you back to mommy in teeny-tiny pieces!" I heard Cardin yell as he threw his punch right at Jaune's face. However, something strange happened. Right before Cardin hit Jaune, Jaune began to produce a bright white light from his body. I covered up my eyes so I didn't see what happened in the exchange. Whatever occurred, Cardin dropped Jaune and he was now grasping his wrist in pain. Jaune began to get back onto his feet. But before he could rise up, Sky kicked him back down. "Let's see how much of a man you really are, Jaune." Cardin said as he went to attack him again. "Stop!" I yelled as all of team CRDL looked at me. "Oh great. Mr. Fight for Freaks is here." Cardin said as I marched over to them. "You put let him go!" I ordered as they all started to laugh. "What? You want me to let go of the person who threw that jar of sap at you?" Cardin asked. "You seem to enjoy hurting others so much! So let's see how much you like it when you're the one's getting hurt! And besides, I know Jaune didn't throw that sap at me! He's not the kind of person to do something as stupid as that!" I said as I pulled my weapon out of its holster. "What're you all standing around for!? Get 'em!" Cardin said as the rest of his teammates pulled out their weapons and rushed me. Cardin stayed behind and I saw him pick Jaune up again. "Have to deal with these clowns quickly. Then I can take down Cardin." I thought to myself as I swapped around the barrels in my weapon. In place was the dust barrel and I had it loaded with Ice type dust. I fired three shots from my weapon, each aimed at the feet of my enemies. The shots hit the ground right where Dove and Sky were running, trapping their feet in place. However, Russel caught on and jumped over the ice. He landed back on his feet and kept on running at me. He was able to get pretty close to me, within striking distance actually. Russel pulled both of the blades he was wielding over his head and he slashed them downward. I jumped back, just narrowly dodging the attack. I then aimed my weapon at the ground again and fired another ice shot. I froze Russel's weapons to the ground. He grew enraged, letting go of his weapons and running at me with a fist in the air. He threw his punch at me but I reached out and caught his fist with my left hand. He then started pulling back his other fist to hit me but I quickly put an end to that when I put the barrel of my gun to Russel's neck. "U-Um... Look... we were just... um, joking around! Yeah, that's it! It was all for laughs!" Russel said nervously as he stared into my fiery eyes. "It may have been laughs for all of you, but I don't see anyone else cracking a smile. Now, i'm going to ask you and the rest of your team nicely. And if I have to ask again, you'll see my angry side, as well as Leena's angry side. And let me tell you, it's not like coming face to face with a Grimm." I explained as Russel grew a terrified expression on his face. "Now listen carefully... I don't want to see anyone on team CRDL making fun of or hurting anyone anymore. You let Jaune go, you stop calling Faunus freaks, and you stop with all these idiotic pranks. Otherwise... Well... I'll be sure to send your families my condolences." I explained to Russel as he fell to the ground, shaking in fear. I started to walk pat him, but not before firing an ice shot at his feet, trapping him in place. I then walked past Dove and Sky who were trying to swing their weapons at me. "No! Don't attack him!" Russel yelled out, reaching out to his teammates. Sky and Dove lowered their weapons and I made my way past them over to Cardin and Jaune.
"Well that takes care of that. Now to-" I started saying as I stopped dead in my tracks. When I looked back over to Jaune and Cardin, I saw a huge armoured Ursa between them. Cardin tried attacking the Grimm but it just swung its huge claws it him, knocking his weapon out of his hands. Cardin then turned and ran but the Ursa chased him down. It didn't take long for the Ursa to catch up and grab Cardin's leg, making him fall to the ground. I ran over to Jaune quickly to help him up before I would go and help Cardin. "You alright!?" I asked him as I saw he had a nasty black eye. "Yeah. But Cardin won't be." Jaune said as he pulled out his sword and shield and ran at the large Ursa. "Jaune, don't! It's too dangerous!" I yelled to him as he turned his head around, giving me a courageous smile. "If I don't do this now, then I'll have failed my friends, my team, and my family! I have to do this!" Jaune said as he swung his sword at the back of the Ursa. It didn't seem to do anything except piss of the Grimm as it turned and faced down Jaune. Cardin, being the coward he was, ran away into the trees. And shortly after, Pyrrha, Ruby, and Weiss showed up. They all looked to me and asked what was happening. "We got into a little brawl. Our negative emotions must've attracted the Ursa. It went after Cardin but Jaune drew it's attention away from him. Now he wants to take the Ursa on alone, otherwise he'll think of himself as a failure." I explained as we all watched the fight ensue. Jaune wasn't doing half bad, guarding some of the attacks and striking when there was clear openings. But the tide soon changed when the Ursa swiped its claws and threw Jaune's shield off of his left arm. Jaune turned to go after the shield but the Ursa followed. Jaune was able to retrieve his shield but he was now wide open for an attack. The Ursa stood right before him, raising it's left paw into the air. Jaune quickly turned and he began to raise both of his weapons up. At the same time, Pyrrha raised her right hand into the air, forming some sort of black aura around it. That same black aura surrounded Jaune's shield, and it looked like it was controlling its movements. Thanks to it, Jaune was successfully able to block the attack from the Ursa and go in for one last swing with his sword. With one mighty strike, Jaune decapitated the Ursa, its head rolling near where Cardin was hiding. The Grimm disappeared shortly after and Jaune withdrew his weapons.
"Uh... What?" Ruby said in confusion as she looked at Pyrrha. "How did you..." Weiss began to ask but Pyrrha interrupted. "Well... Ruby has her speed. You have your Glyphs. Drake has his Cognition. My semblance is Polarity." Pyrrha explained which cleared up what had just happened. "Woah, you can control poles." Ruby said in awe as I started laughing. "No you dunce. It means she has control over magnetism." Weiss explained. "Magnets are cool too." Ruby said as Pyrrha began to walk away. "Wait, where are you going? We have to tell everyone what happened." Ruby said as Pyrrha turned to face all of us. "We could. Or perhaps we could just keep it our little secret." Pyrrha said, looking to me and then to Jaune. She then turned back around and walked away, Ruby and Weiss following her. I decided to stay and walk over to Jaune. I watched as he walked over to Cardin, offering a helping hand up. "Holy crap... Jaune?" Cardin said as Jaune helped him to his feet. "Don't ever mess with my team, my friends... ever again. ...Got it?" Jaune said with a fierce look in his eyes. All Cardin did was simply put his head down in shame, but it was clear that he got the message. Jaune then walked away, passing by me without saying a single word. I didn't say anything to him either though. He needed to be alone for a while. It's been a long day for him. I then gave one look to Cardin, basically saying what I had said to his teammates before. I then followed after Jaune, but not before thawing out Russel, Dove, and Sky with some fire dust bullets. And after that, everyone finished what we were sent here to do and we all went home.
-Time Skip: 5 Hours-
Me and Pyrrha were walking up to the roof of the dorms together. She came to my room and asked if I could join her with something. Obviously I said yes, and I had a pretty good idea about what this was all about. When we arrived, we saw Jaune standing on the rooftop. I stayed at the entrance while Pyrrha walked over to Jaune. "No Cardin tonight? I thought you two were... Best bugs?" Pyrrha asked as Jaune turned to face her. "Pyrrha... I'm sorry. And i'm sorry to you too, Drake." He said as he turned to look at me, as well. "I was a jerk. You two were only trying to be nice and... I had all this stupid macho stuff in my head-" Jaune tried to explain before being cut off by Pyrrha. "Jaune, it's okay. Your team really misses their leader, you know?" Pyrrha said, smiling away at Jaune. Jaune didn't say any words but I did see him crack a little smile. Pyrrha then began to walk away, but not before saying one last thing to Jaune. "You should come down. Ren made pancakes. No syrup though, you can thank Nora for that." She said as Jaune reached out to her. "Wait!" He said as Pyrrha stopped, turned and faced him. "I know I don't deserve it after all that's happened, but... Would you two still be willing to help me? To become a better fighter, I mean." Jaune asked as I began to crack a smile now. I simply gave him a thumbs up. Pyrrha on the other hand walked back over to Jaune and pushed him over. "Your stance is all wrong. You need to be wider and lower to the ground." Pyrrha explained as she helped Jaune back onto his feet. "Now let's try that again." Pyrrha said as I walked over to them. Jaune quickly turned his attention towards me and lowered his head. "Drake... I'm sorry for getting you dragged into all that today. You didn't have to fight for something that was my fault." Jaune said as I put my hand in his left shoulder. "Yes I did." I said as he raised his head back up. "I had to because my friend was being hurt and I wasn't going to let that happen. I know the kind of person that you are and I wasn't just going to see you fall into something you can't get out of. And besides, you helped me blow off a lot of steam today. And i'm sure all of team CRDL will be wary when they see us around." I said to Jaune as he grew curious. "What exactly did you do to them? I was too busy with Cardin and the Ursa to see what else happened." Jaune asked as I just started to laugh. "Let's just say... I'll break their legs if they mess with anyone again." I jokingly said as all three of us began to laugh now. And with that, me and Pyrrha began to help Jaune become a formidable fighter. It wouldn't be easy, but i'm sure he'll be kicking Grimm ass in no time.
