Family
So the truth about Oz is revealed and the training montage is underway. In all honesty, other than Amber, every member of team RANJR needs to work on their hand-to-hand combat skills. Each relies on their weapons way too much(except maybe Nora). And now, we move onto something that I've been waiting for for a long while. Characters will meet again, as you can probably tell by the gif above. I also expect this chapter to be rather lengthy, so you're warned now. And lastly, if you're a fan of the Monster Hunter video game series, then i'm very happy to tell you all that I've started yet another story, obviously based on Monster Hunter. It's titled "A Hunters Journey," so if you're interested, check it out. Now, enjoy!
-PoV: Leena-
Thanks to our run-in with the bandit scouts, me and Yang were able to locate their main base. We parked Yang's motorcycle just outside their gates and approached the guards outside.
"What do you two want?" A guard asked us.
"We're here to see Raven. Now let us in." Yang said but the guards didn't budge.
"Not just anyone can see Raven, missy. Now both of you turn around and leave. Otherwise, things may get messy for you." The same guard said but we didn't move.
"I'm Raven's daughter and I would very much like to speak with my mother. Now... let... me.... in." Yang said, clenching her fists as the two guards in front of us looked at each other curiously. But they seemed to believe Yang's story as they opened up the gate. They escorted us inside and the two of us walked past hundreds of armed bandits. They were all staring as we walked by, each of them ready to attack if we pulled anything funny. We kept on walking until we were told to stop in front of the largest tent.
Emerging from the tent was a taller woman who wore a red and black dress, black pants, some red gauntlets on her forearms, black fingerless gloves and black heels. She was also wearing a Grimm mask.
"Mom." Yang said as the woman removed the mask from her face. Underneath, she looked exactly like Yang, minus the black hair. She even had the red eyes like when Yang becomes angry.
"Yang. ....And friend, I presume." Raven said as I gave her a slow nod.
"So.... after all this time, you finally decided to visit me." Raven said as Yang's left arm began to shake. She grasped onto it with her other arm and calmed herself down.
"You know that I searched for you. I spent years looking for you." Yang said to her.
"And you've found me. You were patient, determined, and strong enough to make your dream a reality. Well done, Yang. But did you two have to be so rough with my men?" Raven jokingly asked.
"We didn't want a fight. They started it." I said to Raven as she gave me a quick glare.
"Well you two certainly finished it." Raven said as we both glared back at her.
"Right. I'm sure this is all very overwhelming. But I must admit that you've both proven yourselves. So any questions you may have, i'll be happy to answer. You can stay with us tonight. I'll even have the cooks whip up something for you." Raven said as Yang stepped forward.
"That's not why we're here." She said intimidatingly.
"What was that?" Raven asked.
"We're not here for you. Ruby is somewhere in Mistral. She's with Qrow. And she's going to need our help. We just need you to take us to her." Yang demanded as Raven crossed her arms.
"And why would I do that?" Raven questioned.
"Because you two are family." I said.
"Pfft. Family. Only coming around when they need something. I have to say, i'm disappointed. After all, you found me, didn't you? Why not take that drive and use it to find little Ruby if she means that much to you?" Raven asked us.
"Because you're going to save us a lot of time. Ruby was heading to Mistral, but there's no guarantee she's made it there. Looking for her in Anima could take ages. But.... Dad told me how your semblance works. You can bond to certain people. And when you do, you can create a portal that takes you straight to them. You've got one for dad. One for me. And you've got one for Qrow. He promised me he'd watch out for Ruby before he left. And I trust him. So, make a portal to my uncle and sister, and we'll be on our way." Yang explained but Raven did not look satisfied.
"You know.... it takes real strength to march in here and demand such a favor of me. I've got to say, i'm impressed. It's very noble to want to help out your sister. But if she's with Qrow, then she's already a lost cause." Raven explained as we grew curious.
"What does that mean?" I asked her.
"You two really don't want to get mixed up in all that. Ozpin is not the man you think he is. And Qrow is a fool for trusting him. I would know, I trusted him once, too." Raven said.
"I don't care what you think." Yang replied.
"Your choice is your own. All i'm suggested is that instead of getting wrapped up in something too big for you, for any of us, that maybe you both take a moment to wonder if you're already where you belong." Raven said but we both disagreed.
"Save your breath, lady. You can spout off whatever you want, but nothing is gonna keep us from finding Ruby." I said intensely to Raven as she cracked a small smile at me.
"Well aren't you two stubborn, then." Raven said to us.
"I get it from my mom." Yang said.
"Well, if that's how you two feel, then it sounds like we're done here. Take them away." Raven said as we were suddenly surrounded by dozens of bandits.
"Did you not hear us? I said, send us to Qrow, damn it!" Yang yelled as her eyes turned red. But Raven ignored her and began to walk back into her tent.
"That's enough! You watch your mouths in front of our leader!" A bandit said as he charged us with a cleaver in his hands.
"Make us." Yang said as she pulled her right arm back, ducked underneath the blade as the bandit swung it at her, and then punched him so hard that he was sent flying through a tent. The tent then collapsed, revealing a large cage behind it. And what was inside.... made me start to cry.
"D.... D....Dr..... Drake?" I quietly said as both Drake and Weiss were inside the cage, both looking very beaten up.
"Yang?" Weiss questioned.
"Leena!?" Drake questioned.
"Weiss?" Yang questioned.
"Drake!!" I cried as I was ever so relieved to see my friends okay. If you'd call this situation okay, anyway.
"Alright, well, subtlety is out." Weiss said as suddenly, a large white suit of armor began to grow beside her and Drake. It kept growing and growing until it broke apart the cage they were in. The two of them then ran over to us, along with the suit of armor.
"What is that?" Yang asked Weiss.
"Don't worry about it. What are you two doing here?" Weiss asked us.
"Well, that's my mom and she can take us to Ruby." Yang explained, pointing to Raven.
"Your mom kidnapped us!?" Weiss shouted.
"Wha!? You kidnapped them!?" Yang asked Raven who came back out of the tent.
Meanwhile, a few of the bandits began to run at us. We all turned to fight but in between us and the bandits, a lightning bolt struck the ground and stopped everything.
"Enough!" A woman shouted as we turned back to Raven. Another woman was now standing there and she had on a pale brown vest, maroon colored pants, and dark brown knee guards.
"Thank you." Raven said to the women. I saw that this new woman was holding onto Weiss' sword, along with another black and red gun.
"If you people don't keep it together, this place will be crawling with the Grimm. Now, give them their weapons back." Raven said as the other woman looked surprised. But she obliged and threw the weapons over to Weiss and Drake.
"The four of you. In my tent. Now." Raven said to us.
"Why?" Yang angrily asked her.
"If you're really going after your sister, then you need to know the truth." Raven said as she turned around and entered her tent. All the bandits surrounding us left and the four of us were left in the centre.
"Sorry about-" Yang began to say as Weiss suddenly hugged her. And Drake.... he walked right up to me and did the same thing.
"I.... I thought I lost you." He said as he held me tightly.
"You kidding? You.... you can't get rid of me.... that easily." I said to him as we both began to cry.
"I missed you so much. Both of you." Weiss said as she stopped hugging Yang and now gave me a hug.
"We missed you both too. There wasn't a day where we didn't think about you." Yang said as Weiss' giant suit of armor disappeared with the wind, turning into a breeze of sparkling snow.
"Alright. We should get going. My mother doesn't like to be kept waiting." Yang said as we nodded in agreement and entered her tent. We sat down across from Raven at a small table. The woman with the brown vest was also here and she poured us all some tea.
"You can wait outside, now." Raven said to her as she nodded and stepped outside the tent.
"So, what's the "truth?"" Yang asked as Raven took a sip of her tea.
"You know, it's better when it's hot." Raven replied.
"You know, you're really obnoxious." Weiss said back to her.
"The truth is that "truth" is hard to come by. A story of victory for one person is a story of defeat for another. By now, your uncle has surely told Ruby and her friends plenty of stories." Raven said to us.
"Well he's never given me a reason to doubt him before." Yang replied.
"That doesn't mean those reasons don't exist. You know, you and your teammates might as well be the poster children for the huntsmen academies. Your motives vary, but you all enrolled to try and make the world a better place. It's adorable." Raven said.
"That's because it's what Huntsmen and Huntresses do." Drake said to her.
"Not all of them. Some people are just in it for the money or the fame, but there's even more that are just looking to get stronger. Your uncle Qrow and I didn't attend Beacon to become Huntsman, we did it to learn how to kill Huntsmen." Raven explained as each of us let out a silent gasp.
"Daddy and uncle left that part out, hm? Aside from the Grimm, Huntsmen were the only ones capable of ruining our raids and hunting us down. Our tribe needed a counterforce. And Qrow and I were the perfect age. The entrance exams were child's play compared to what we'd already been through. We were good. So good, that we caught the attention of Beacon's very own headmaster, Professor Ozpin. Even after we were put on a team, I could tell he was keeping his eye on us. Back then, I thought it was because he knew, but it was team STRQ he was interested in." Raven explained as we all looked at each other with curiosity in our eyes.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked her.
"Constant attention, extra training missions, turning a blind eye whenever we happened to break the rules and get into more trouble than we should've. Sound familiar?" Raven explained. It was literally what went on with both RWBY, JNPR, and DLTA.
"What's your point?" Yang asked.
"How much do you know about Professor Ozpin? About his past?" Raven asked us.
"He was.... a prodigy. One of the youngest headmasters to be appointed to a school." Weiss said.
"Because that's how he planned it. Because the man you know as Ozpin designed those schools and has followers inside every academy on Remnant that are loyal to him and no one else." Raven explained which confused us all.
"That doesn't make any sense. How could he have-? No. Why would someone even do that?" Yang asked her.
"Because old man Oz has a great and terrible secret. One that could spread fear across the world. One that he eventually entrusted to our team, and once I knew, there was no going back. I needed to know more, but with every new discovery I made, the more horrifying the world became." Raven said.
"Okay, then tell us. What's the big secret? What's so crazy that the rest of us don't know?" Drake asked her.
"The creatures of Grimm.... have a master named Salem. She can't be stopped, she can't be reasoned with, and she will not rest until humanity crumbles at her feet." Raven explained to us.
"What?" Weiss asked as I looked to Drake's arm. The scars on it were now all black. It made me worried after hearing all this.
"You know, the four of you haven't even touched your tea." Raven said as she took another sip. Meanwhile, Yang stood up and clenched her fists.
"Why should we believe any of this?" She asked her mother.
"Now you're catching on. So far you've done nothing but accept what others tell you, but you need to question everything. Ohterwise you'll end up just as blind as Qrow.... and your fool of a father." Raven said as Yang smashed her left fist down and broke the table.
"Don't you dare talk about my family like that!" Yang shouted as I heard a gun cock.
"You need to calm down." The woman in the brown vest said as she held up a disk like weapon to Yang. I could see a barrel in it.
"Yang, please." Weiss begged as she grasped onto Yang's left hand.
"Listen to your friend, Yang. Your teammates never let you down before." Raven said as she stood up and started walking around the room.
"You don't know the first thing about my teammates! About me! You were never there! You left us! Why?" Yang said as I could see tears forming in her eyes.
"I know more than you realize. Not just about you, and not just what I've been told, but things I've seen with my own eyes. I know the Grimm have a leader, I know people who can come back from the dead, I know that magic is real, and I can prove it. You said Tai told you all about my semblance. Well, I doubt he ever told you about what Oz did to my brother and me." Raven said as she walked out of a back entrance of the tent.
"Go see for yourselves." The woman in the vest said as we all got up and followed Raven. We stepped outside but she wasn't there. All that could be heard was the sounds of a raven kawing. The raven flew by a couple times.
"Yang, are you okay?" I asked her.
"I'll be fine once we get her to take us to Ruby." Yang said as the raven flew by a few more times.
"It's okay if.... you're not okay." Weiss said to her as she looked back at us.
"You didn't believe what she said, right?" Yang asked us.
"I.... of course not. Well, not all of it. It was crazy. We have Dust, semblances... But, I mean, there's no such thing as magic." Weiss said as the raven flew lower this time, finally catching Yang's attention.
"I've.... seen that bird before." Yang said as we all looked at her curiously.
"Maybe it belongs to your mom?" Drake suggested as we all watched the bird. It flew down and in between some trees. We kept our eyes trained on it and after it passed one last tree, something miraculous occurred. The raven.... well... turned into Raven. She landed in front of us all.
"How.... did you do that?" Yang asked her in shock.
"Well, I could explain it to you...." Raven said as she unsheathed her sword from it's hilt and created a portal behind her.
"...or you could ask your uncle." Raven said.
"Your letting us go?" Yang asked her in confusion.
"I'm giving you a choice. Stay here, with me, and i'll answer all your questions and more. We could have a fresh start. Or.... you can go back to Qrow and join Ozpin's impossible war against Salem, and meet the same fate as so many others. But can you really go back to trusting someone that's kept so much from you?" Raven said, looking at Yang as she stepped out of the way of the portal.
"All I care about is making sure my sister is safe." Yang said as her mother scoffed at that remark. We quickly went back to get Yang's motorcycle and we regathered in front of the portal. Yang and Weiss rode on the motorcycle while me and Drake decided to walk. We were about to go through but Raven stopped us one last time.
"Yang." She said as we all looked to her.
"If you side with your uncle, I may not be as kind the next time we meet." Raven said as Yang glared back at her.
"You weren't kind this time either." Yang said as her and Weiss entered the portal. Me and Drake entered right after, holding hands the entire time.
When we emerged from the portal, we were on a look-off point with mountains and a beautiful sunset in the distance. And, more importantly, Qrow with the most surprised look on his face.
"Oh...." He said as he looked absolutely stunned.
"Uncle.... Qrow?" Yang said as she parked her motorcycle, hopped off and gave her uncle a hug.
"Hey, kiddo. Or, I guess kiddos." Qrow said as he gave us all a smile.
"So good to see you again, Qrow." I said as Yang stepped aside and allowed me to hug the crazy drunk.
"How... did you all get here?" He asked us.
"Isn't it obvious? I convinced mom to open a portal to you." Yang said as I let go of Qrow.
"And she agreed?" He questioned.
"Yep." Yang said as Qorw still looked baffled.
"Um.... alright, then. Well, everyone's inside. I'll.... i'll call Ruby and Amber over." Qrow said as we all walked over to a nearby building. We stepped inside and stood at the front door.
"I'm back!" Qrow said casually, I guess trying to not let on that we were here.
"Be right there!" We heard Ruby yell from another room.
"Hey, uh, Ruby? Amber?" Qrow said to them.
"We're coming!" We heard Amber yell.
"Fine! You take over. We'll go help Qrow." Ruby said as we could hear them walking over.
"So, we didn't know how many people were coming, so we just cooked all of it." Ruby said as her and Amber came around the corner. Ruby was carrying a tea set with her and she immediately dropped it, smashing everything on the floor as both her and Amber stood there, looking like they were going to cry.
"Yang, I.... I'm so sorry! I-I should've stayed, and I should've talked to you more! I'd-I just.... I wasn't sure if you wanted me around and-" Ruby tried to say as Yang walked forward and hugged her sister.
Meanwhile, Amber was slowly walking over to the rest of us. She began to cry and she reached out her arms. I expected her to hug Drake first since she was so clingy to him.... but no. She came to me first.
"I'm.... I'm so you're alive! I was so afraid! I.... I..... I didn't know what to do without you! Without any of you! I'm sorry!" Amber cried as she sobbed into my shoulder.
"Hey, hey, it's okay, it's okay. You can always count on us coming back, no matter what happens. We're a team, remember? We'll always be there for each other." I said as Amber began to cry even more. Drake joined in and the warmth between us all was overwhelming. I couldn't help but cry too. And, of course, Drake did as well. We were finally where we belong. We were with our family again.
"We're home."
