A Threatening Alliance
This will most likely be the final chapter for Volume 1 of the RWBY series. If you've made it to this point, thank you so much! It really means a lot to me as a writer! If you have any suggestions as to what should happen in later volumes, or opposing teams during the Vytal tournament, please leave a comment below. And if you're interested in other works that I've done, I suggest you check out my My Hero Academia series "Class 1-B's Ace." It's recently hit over 1,500 reads, becoming my most successful piece of work to date. But be warned, if you are an anime only watcher of MHA, there are spoilers in the series. I go all the way through the manga as well, up to the most recent manga chapter release. Just a little warning if you're interested. Enjoy!
-Time Skip: 2 Days-
Sunday rolled around in no time but Blake still hadn't come back yet. Me and Leena were helping out team RWBY with their search for her. Today we headed back into town to see if she went to a hotel or something. "She's been gone all weekend." Ruby said sadly as the five of us walked through the streets. "Blake's a big girl. I'm sure she can handle herself." Weiss said. The tension between us was finally starting to die down. Yesterday, Weiss did come over to my teams room and apologize to Amber and Temair. Thankfully neither of them are really ones to hold grudges. Now all that was left was to find Blake and bring her home. "Weiss, come on. She's one of our teammates." Yang said as Weiss turned to face her. "Is she? We all heard what she said." Weiss said as I now stopped to look at her. "Maybe she is, maybe she isn't. Either way, she's missing and we have to find her." I said as we continued walking. "A member of the White Fang. Right underneath our noses!" Weiss said, making it clear she wasn't going to apologize to Blake easily. "I just hope she's okay." Leena said. "Look... Let's just get back to finding her. We can focus on making up later." I said as Ruby started to yell out Blake's name.
We walked for nearly an hour, asking people if they've seen our friend, checking nearby hotels, everywhere. Nothing came up though. We were starting to get worried. "Blaaaakkkeee! Where are you!?" Ruby and Yang called out. "Weiss, you're not helping." Leena said to her as she looked directly at the two of us. "Oh, you know who might be able to help? The police." Weiss suggested as we all crossed our arms at her. "What? It was just an idea!" Weiss said. "Yeah, a bad one." Leena said which made me laugh a bit. "We need to hear her side of the story before we jump to any conclusions." Yang said but Weiss cut in. "I think when we hear it out, you'll all realize that I was right." She said as I rolled my eyes. "Whatever you say, Ice Queen." I said as she gave me one nasty look. "What did you call me!?" She asked as everyone else started to laugh. "Hey, that's a good one, Drake." Ruby said as she gave me a high five. "Don't call me that ever again!" Weiss demanded but I just laughed away. "Alright, alright. Let's just keep moving." I said as we rounded a corner to another street.
"I think Weiss's hair looks wonderful today!" A familiar voice said to all of us. We all turned around to see that same girl from a few days ago, Penny, standing right behind us. "Agh! Penny! Where did you come from!?" Ruby asked. "Hey guys! What are you up to?" Penny asked. "We're looking for our friend, Blake." Yang explained as Penny started to think. "Ooooooh! You mean the Faunus girl!" Penny said which confused us all. "Wait. How did you know that?" I asked her. "Uh. The cat ears." Penny said, pointing at her pink bow. "What cat ears? She wears a... Bow..." Leena said as everything fell into place. Blake was hiding her Faunus features from us the whole time using the bow on her head. "She does like tuna a lot, actually." Ruby whispered to us as we all stayed silent. "So, where is she?" Penny asked us. "We're not sure. She's been missing since Friday." Ruby explained. "That's terrible!" Penny said as she walked past Yang and Weiss, grabbing onto both of Ruby's arms. "Well don't you worry Ruby, my friend! I won't rest until we find your teammate!" Penny said with confidence. "Uh, that's really nice of you Penny, uh, but we're okay. Really. Right guys?" Ruby asked her teammates. However, when we all looked to them, they were gone. They had just left us all standing here to deal with Penny. "Well that's no surprise. ...Alright. You can help us find Blake." Ruby said as Penny put her hands up into the air. "Oh yes! This'll be so much fun!" She yelled out as we continued our search.
A few more hours had passed by and still no luck in finding Blake. The sun was actually going down at this point. However, we were determined to find her. We were going to stay out all night if we really had to. "So, Blake is your friend?" Penny asked us all. "Yes. And she's one of my teammates." Ruby explained to her. "But you're mad at her?" Penny asked. "Yes! W-Well, i'm not, Weiss is." Ruby explained as Penny kept the questions coming. "Is 'she' friends with Blake?" She asked. "Well, that's kind of up in the air right now." Ruby said. "But, why?" Penny asked. Ruby let out a sigh and said "Well you see, she might not be who we thought she was." Ruby said as Penny seemed to grow curious. "Is she a man!?" She asked which made me laugh a bit. "No, no! It's nothing like that, Penny." I said to her. "We don't exactly know what she is. She didn't exactly tell any of us before she ran off." Leena said as Penny just nodded. "I don't have a lot of friends, but if I did, I would want them to talk to me about things." Penny said as Ruby put her hand on her shoulder. "Me too. Anyways, we should get going. It'll be dark soon and it'll only get harder to search for her." Ruby said as we went on with the search.
-Time Skip: 2 Hours-
"My feet hurt..." Leena said while groaning. The sky had turned dark at this point but we still hadn't found any sign of Blake. The only one who even seemed to stay remotely positive was Penny. It was almost like she wasn't human at all. "Drake... Can you carry me?" Leena asked, looking really tired. I let out a small sigh and then I crouched down in front of her. "Fine. Hop on my back." I said as she crawled onto me. I lifted her up and cradled her on my back. "She looks completely worn out. You two should go back to Beacon." Ruby said to me but I just shook my head. "It's fine. I'll be alright. I'm more worried about Blake anyway. Once I know she's alright, then i'll take Leena home." I explained as Ruby gave me a smile. "You're really the big brother type of person, aren't you?" Ruby asked me as I chuckled a bit. "You could say that. Me and Leena have always watched each others back since we were kids. It all really started the day we were attacked by a Grimm. Leena got out unscathed but the Grimm ripped open my right arm." I said as I showed Ruby and Penny the scars on my arm. "Woah... That's pretty gnarly." Ruby said, staring at the scars. "I was lucky enough that a huntsman was in town at the time. He killed the Grimm before it killed me. However, some of the Grimm's blood entered my wound and I was rushed to the nearest doctor. Every doctor that examined me said that I would be fine and that the Grimm blood won't have any effect. And ever since that day, me and Leena decided we wanted to be Huntsmen. We promised we would defend those who couldn't and stand up for those who needed help. We wanted to be like the huntsman who saved us that day." I explained to Ruby as she gave me a heartwarming smile. However, the smiling quickly stopped when an explosion occurred just ahead of us. "That's the shipyard! Come on!" I said as we all headed there.
When we were near the shipyard, Ruby decided that we should climb up one of the buildings so we could have a better vantage point. No one seemed to disagree and we all climbed up a ladder to a small building. Leena stayed asleep the whole time, just hanging onto my shoulders as I climbed the ladder. When we made it to the top, Ruby unsheathed her weapon and took aim at where the explosion occurred. "What do you see?" Penny asked her. "I see... Torchwick! He's fighting Blake and that other Faunus guy from before!" Ruby explained as I tried to look closer. They were pretty far away but I was able to see that distinct black and white combat outfit. It really was Blake. And she really was fighting Torchwick. From where we were, it looked like Torchwick was pointing the end of his cane at the other Faunus. "Hey!" Ruby yelled which caught Torchwick's attention. "Oh hello Red! Isn't it past your bedtime!?" Torchwick yelled to us. "Ruby? Are these people your friends?" Penny asked. "Penny, stay back!" Ruby said to her, taking her eyes away from Torchwick. Torchwick took the opportunity to aim the end of his cane at Ruby while she wasn't looking. And from his cane he fired a shot of Dust at her. "Ruby! Look out!" I yelled as I dropped Leena and jumped in front of the shot. I took the shot head on and it sent me flying backwards. I crashed into Ruby and we both slid along the roof of the building. "So... That cane's a weapon too." I said as I slowly got back up to my feet. All the while, Penny grew an angry look in her eyes. She began to walk forward, now standing on the edge of the building. Leena was also waking up, wondering what was going on. "Penny, wait! Stop!" Ruby called out to her. "Don't worry, Ruby! I'm combat ready!" Penny said as a pouch on her back opened up. Appearing out of it was nearly a dozen floating blades. And with one mighty jump, Penny leaped off the building, landing on the ground where she headed right for Torchwick.
We all watched as they strange girl rushed towards our enemy with what might be the most incredible looking weapons we had ever seen. However, we quickly found out that Torchwick wasn't alone. Several armed thugs wearing white masks appeared from behind shipping containers. They opened fire on Penny. "Drake! Do you see the symbol on their backs?" Leena asked me. I tried to look closer and I was able to see what she was referring to. It was the symbol of a red wolf with claw marks all around it. "That's the White Fang!" I said as we all watched Penny take action. She was somehow able to control each of her floating blades, sending them one after the other at every opponent she came across. By spinning her weapons in a circle formation, Penny was able to take out almost 20 members of the White Fang with one shot. The enemies kept on coming though as three airships appeared. They began to rain down bullets on Penny but she was able to shield herself with her blades. "I've got this!" Leena said as she pulled out her weapon in its rifle mode. At the same time, Ruby got back into position and took aim with her sniper scythe. The two of them began shooting at the airships, hoping to hit the pilots seat. "I can't just sit around like this! I've gotta help out too!" I thought as I jumped off the building to go help Penny. I pulled out my weapon and I began to fire at the airships. It looked like there was an engine on either side of the ships wings so I aimed for that. "This'll ground one of those birds!" I said as I swapped the barrels of my gun to the explosive dust chamber. I fired two shots and both of them hit the sides of one of the engines. I then hit the switch on the side of my weapon, causing the dust and the engine to explode. The airship fell from the sky and it blew up upon impact with the ground. Only two were left now.
I then saw Penny bring out two more floating blades from the pouch she was wearing. They flew backwards and latched onto the side of the building where Leena and Ruby were. Penny seemed to be pulled back by them as she flew towards the building. When she stopped she crouched down to her knees and began to spin the blades in that same circle formation. It was different this time though. They were spinning much faster and a ball of green energy was being formed in the centre of the blades. When the ball grew larger, the blades stopped spinning and Penny thrusted her arms forward. That ball of energy turned into a freaking laser beam that shot out towards the airships. One of the ships was able to fly out of the way but the other had its left wing cut off. We all watched it fall to the ground an explode. I was probably looking in awe at Penny. To think, this innocent looking girl was wielding such an incredible piece of weaponry. And now, there was only one airship left. Penny used every weapon she was using to latch onto the ship. When each of them embedded themselves into the ship, Penny did something incredible. She began to pull the ship out of the sky! She was simply walking backwards, looking like she was pulling on something. I don't know how but it was working. With one hard pull, Penny forced the airship to crash into more shipping containers.
"Holy shit! How's she able to do that!?" I thought to myself as I tried to regain focus. There was still a pressing matter we had to deal with. Torchwick was still here. I looked over and saw him running away from Blake and the other Faunus. They were both together, Blake seeing if the Faunus was injured. I decided that I would continue the chase after Torchwick. I ran after him, passing by Blake, only giving her a quick look. I saw Torchwick run around some more shipping containers. When I went around them, I found there was another airship waiting to pick him up. He began to take off into the air but not before yelling out to us. "Bye, bye kiddos! It was fun but now I've gotta take my leave!" He said as he threw a shard of red dust down at me. I took aim, swapping my barrels at the same time. I fired a normal bullet at the piece of dust causing it to explode and create a small smokescreen. And when the smoke cleared, Torchwick was high in the air, much too far for any of us to reach him. We all then watched as he flew away from us.
It may have pained to see someone like him get away but I soon moved past it and went back over to Blake. She was helping up the other Faunus who was just laughing his head off. "Are you both alright?" I asked them as Blake just stared at me. "Why did you let him get away?" She asked me as I went to help up the Faunus boy. "Because you're more important. And i'm not the only one who's thinking that." I said as Ruby and Leena showed up. Penny was nowhere to be seen however. It was a bit concerning. "Blake, are you okay!? Did Torchwick hurt you!?" Ruby frantically asked. "I'm fine Ruby. We both are. But what are you all doing here?" Blake asked us. "We're here because we were worried for you. You scared us all the day you ran away. We've been searching for you ever since. And... It seems you made a friend." Leena said, referring to the other Faunus. "Nice to meet you, ladies. The name's Sun Wukong." The Faunus said, reaching out his hand to Ruby and Leena. "Um... Hi." Ruby said as she shook his hand. "Anyways... We should call the police and inform them of what happened here. I'm sure we weren't the only ones to notice a lot of explosions coming from this shipyard." Leena said as she pulled out her phone.
-Time Skip: 1 Hour-
Every single one of us had been questioned by the police at this point. Each of us gave a similar response, saying we were only hear because we thought there was danger and that we wanted to help out. The police were finishing up their investigation, taking the members of the White Fang away that were left here by Torchwick. Blake, even though it was hard for her, admitted she was in fact a Faunus. Even going as far as telling us she was once a member of the White Fang. However, she also explained that she had left becuase she couldn't bare to see the violence they were spreading. She only belonged to the White Fang when it was an actual piece group. And finally, Weiss and Yang showed up. "Look Weiss, it's not what you think. She explained the whole thing. You see she doesn't actually wear a bow, she has kitty ears and their actually kinda cute." Ruby tried explaining to Weiss but Weiss simply walked past Ruby and over to Blake. "Weiss... I want you to know that I am no longer a member of the White Fang. Back when I was with-" Blake tried to say but Weiss interrupted her. "Stop. Do you have any idea how long we've been searching for you? Twelve hours. That means that I've had twelve hours to think about this. And in that time I've decided... I don't care!" Weiss said which really confused Blake. "You don't care?" Blake asked her as Weiss nodded. "You said you're not one of them anymore, right? So, all I want to know, is that the next time something this big come up... You'll come to your teammates, and not some... someone else." Weiss said, looking at Sun. I watched as Blake wiped a tear from her left eye and then crack a smile. "Of course." She said. "Yeah! Team RWBY is back together!" Ruby cheered. The four of them looked like they were going to go in for a group hug but they stopped when Sun tried to but in. "I'm still not quite sure how I feel about you!" Weiss said to him as Sun started laughing nervously. And then Weiss looked to me and Leena and said "And you two! ...Thank you... for the talk the other day. And... i'm sorry again if I hurt your teammates." Weiss said as we both walked over to her and the rest of her team. "It's okay. Temair and Amber already accepted your apology. And, after seeing everything that's happened tonight... I can confirm that the Ice Queen has a heart after all." Leena jokingly said. "I told you to stop calling me that!" Weiss demanded. "Oh that's not going anywhere, anytime soon." I said as everyone began to laugh. However, Ruby quickly stopped laughing and began to look around. "Hey, did anyone see where Penny went?" She asked us but no one gave an answer. "I don't know. She just disappeared after Torchwick took off." I said. "I'm sure she's fine. I mean... Didn't you see what she could do?" Leena said as me and Ruby agreed with her. "Oh? And what did little miss curiosity do exactly?" Weiss asked. "We'll explain later. I think it's best we head home. I'm sure the rest of your friends are waiting to see you come back, Blake." I said to her as she gave me a smile. "Thanks guys." She said as we all headed back to Beacon. Even Sun joined us, talking non-stop all the way back to the dorms. And even though it was a bit annoying, I was just glad everything worked out alright. We stopped whatever Torchwick was doing, arrested some members of the White Fang, and most importantly, Blake came home where she belongs.
