A Piece is Gone
Honestly, I expected that last chapter to be longer than it was. But seeing how short it was, it gives me an idea of how long one chapter will be when we get much further down the line. I'm actually not looking forward to doing that chapter. But regardless, that day hasn't come yet. It feels weird going back through the RWBY series and listening to some of the hints they say that become much more greater during the parts where we're at now. It just goes to show how much RoosterTeeth plans ahead with these sorts of things. And, it's just like how I got things planned out for this series and its characters. Enjoy!
-Point of View: Leena-
Well, the weeks went by pretty slowly, all things considered. Things were difficult considering I wasn't able to see anything. I did my best to help out around Yang's home though. Mostly just sweeping and doing dishes but if it helped, then I was satisfied. Yang was finally able to find the courage to try on her new arm from Atlas. She's been using it quite often in the day and she's gotten used to it already. And, it has a built in gun barrel which fires concussive blasts, just like her gauntlets. As for me, I was able to finally take off these bandages. My eyesight was incredibly blurry for about 2 days straight but they've cleared up at this point. But looking at my face... that was a completely different story. My left eye was basically gone. There's a huge hole and slash mark where it used to be. It was a very dark reminder of what could happen out there in the world. And, in replacement for the bandages, I had to where an eye-patch over my left eye. It was something that was quite irritating at some times. It got itchy and sometimes it would be hard to sleep with it on. But by now, I think I've gotten used to it. I was even able to get some new clothes. I wore a red and black flannel jacket with a black sports bra underneath, as well as some light brown coloured jeans and some black and white sneakers. It was pretty comfortable in my opinion. And with the winter season coming back around soon, it's sure to keep me warm.
Today, Yang and her father, Tai, were doing some training. It was all to get Yang used to fighting with her new arm and to have her gain some more experience. I came out to watch and I sat under the shade of a tree. Zwei, their dog, came over and sat on my lap as we watched. Yang was blocking some of Tai's attacks and then going in when she had the chance. Tai went for two straight punches and Yang was able to block them by holding up her arms. Tai then followed it up by going for a roundhouse kick which Yang managed to block. She then pushed Tai back, making him lose balance. Yang then capitalized and went for a jumping punch on Tai. He blocked it but Yang sent him sliding backwards on his feet. "Woah... That thing packs a punch!" Tai said as he stretched his right arm. "We've been at this for weeks. I get it, you wanna make sure I can still fight. I think i'm doing just fine." Yang said as she brought her fists together. "You're close." Tai said as he started to walk around Yang. "Oh really?" Yang asked. "You're still off balance." Tai said as he continued to walk around Yang. "What!? No i'm not!" Yang said as Tai let out a small chuckle. Yang then looked at her new arm and began holding it near fer face. "Honestly, i'm kind of surprised. I thought it would just be this huge weight, but... it feels... natural. They did a great job with this thi-" Yang began to say as Tai snuck up on her and nearly landed a punch. The two then continued with their fight, smashing fists together until Tai was able to lock up one of Yang's arms. "I wasn't talking about your actual balance." Tai said as he tripped up Yang and made her fall on her back." Tai then walked over to me and Zwei. I had some towels with me and he came over to grab one. "Although, that could use some work too." He said as Yang continued to lay there on the ground. "Meaning?" She asked. "I saw your tournament fights. During the Vytal Festival." Tai said as I saw Yang roll her eyes. "Let me guess. "I was sloppy."" Yang said as he father let out another chuckle. "No, no, you were predictable. And... stubborn, and maybe a little boneheaded." Tai said as Yang sat up and faced him. "Do you realize that you used your semblance to win every fight after the qualifiers?" Tai asked Yang as she turned away from him. "So what? How is me using my semblance any different than someone else using theirs?" Yang asked as Tai let out a small sigh. "Because not everyone else's is basically a temper tantrum." Tai said which made me laugh a bit. He then walked over to Yang. "I'm serious! Once you take damage, you can dish it back twice as hard, but that doesn't make you invincible. It's great when you're in a bind but what happens if you miss? What happens if they're stronger? What then? Now you're just weak and tired!" Tai explained as Yang looked back at him. "You've always been one to burn brighter than everyone else, whether it was with your smile, or, well, I remember your first haircut." Tai said as he stroked Yang's hair. She shoved him off and grew a small smile. "But you've gotta keep your emotions in check. Keep a level head, and think before you act. Your semblance is a great fall back, but you can't let yourself rely on it. It won't always save you. Obviously." Tai said as he began to walk around again.
"You definitely have your mom's stubbornness." Tai said as Yang looked over to him with a bit of an angry look on her face. "Oh? So now we can talk about her?" Yang said as Tai let out another sigh. "Well, as I have been informed, you two are adults now, remember?" Tai said as I looked over to him. He was just staring at a tree. "Well, sorry if I remind you of her." Yang said as she put her head down. "Don't be." Tai said as Yang looked back up. "Raven was great in so many ways... her strength, her ambition, hr dedication to whatever cause she thought was worth fighting for. And i'm proud of how much of her I see in you. But, i'm glad I don't see all of her in you." Tai explained as Yang simply stared at him. "Why?" She asked as Tai turned around. "Your mother was.... a complicated woman. Live everybody, she had her faults, but those faults are what tore our team apart. And, it did a real number on our family. You both act like the easiest way to tackle an obstacle is through it. That strength is all that matters in a fight. But if you just take a second look, then maybe you see... there's a way around as well." Tai said as he walked over to Yang and offered her a hand back up. "C'mon. We'll do another one and then you can call it a day." Tai said as Yang took his hand. She stood back up and the two of them walked apart from each other, taking ready positions. Tai attacked first, going for two punches and then a roundhouse kick. Yang blocked the punches and then ducked under Tai's kick. Tai then went for a flip kick which Yang rolled out of the way of. Yang and Tai then charged each other, locking elbows and fists with each other. "Hah, you see!? Alright! Now you're using your head instead of you-" Tai began to say but Yang struck his legs with her own, tripping him up. He began to fall over but Yang reached out and grabbed his arm, stopping him from falling. "Well... Looks like you got the hang of things already." Tai said as he regained his balance. "Alright. Now, it's your turn." Tai said as he looked over to me. "Wait, you want me to fight you?" I asked him as Zwei ran off me.
"Yep. I noticed some things when you fought in the Vytal festival too. And I think it would do you good if we improved upon them." Tai said as I stood up. "And what kind of flaws did you see in me?" I asked as he let out a small chuckle. "For one, you seem to like long range fighting way too much. That's all you did during the Festival. What would happen if an enemy got too close? What would you do then?" Tai asked as I started walking towards him. "Are you implying that I can't fight up close?" I asked. "Perhaps. But it is your biggest weakness. Now let's see how well you can do with some hand-to-hand." Tai said as he took a ready position. I did the same as Yang went and sat under the tree with Zwei. "Please, ladies fir-" Tai began to say but I already went in for an attack. I rushed Tai and went for a sweeping kick which he managed to jump over. I then followed it up by using both of my hands to launch myself upward and go into a flip-kick. I hit Tai in the chest and I made him slide backwards on his feet. I landed on both of my feet and Tai charged me. He went for a jumping punch straight for my face. I quickly sidestepped to my left and Tai went right past me. I grabbed his wrist and then the back of his neck and I forced him to the ground. I then continued to sit on him. "I think I know how to fight up close, old man." I said with a bit of a chuckle. Yang went on to laugh as well. "Um... ok then." Tai said as I got off of him. He then stood up and brushed off the dirt from his clothes. "Alright. I see you do know how to fight up close. Now... let's see how your aim is. I'm sure it's become a little rusty after all this time." Tai said which confused me. "But... my weapon was destroyed. What am I supposed to shoot with?" I asked as I remembered back to how I lost my weapon. That Adam guy from the White Fang managed to cut it in two with one swing of his sword. "I figured you might ask that. And since Yang told me you lost your weapon during the fall of Beacon, I made some arrangements. Her arm wasn't the only thing that I ordered from Atlas." Tai said as he rushed into the house. He came back out and he was holding a large box in his hands. "I couldn't get you a new eye, but I figured this was just as good. State of the art Atlas tech, mixed in with a bit of Mistral ingenuity." Tai explained as he handed me the box. I set it on the ground and opened it up. Inside, it looked like there was a bow with a quiver. I took them out but I quickly found out they were all connected into one weapon. "How does it work?" I asked. "Well, the quiver actually slips onto your arm. Around the wrist area is a rotating Dust dial that can swap out different types of Dust and attached them to your arrows. And, by hitting a switch, the bow itself morphs into a blade. Go on, try it out!" Tai said as I slipped on the weapon to my left arm.

When I put it on, it felt like there was nothing on my arm at all. "It's so light. It feels... great!" I said as I moved my arm around. "I managed to set up some targets for you. Look over there." Tai said as he pointed into the trees. I could see five targets all lined up. "Try and hit them from here. Let's see what this thing can do." Tai said as I took a deep breath. He backed away over to Yang and I positioned myself to hit the first target. They were all about 120 feet away from where I was standing. I drew a normal arrow and I pulled back the string. I took aim and breathed slowly. When I had everything lined up and the wind slowed down, I released the arrow. If flew so fast at the target and I managed to hit it. It landed on the red circles on the target. In archery, that means I would've gotten 7 or 8 points. "Not bad! Not bad at all! Try out some of the Dust arrows!" Tai said as I hit one of the switches on my weapon. I held up my wrist and watched the Dust arrows rotate into place. A yellow arrowhead attached to my next arrow, meaning I would be firing an electric Dust shot. I pulled out the arrow and pulled back the string. I did the same as before, took a deep breath and waited for the wind to die down. When it did, I released the arrow and watched it fly at the target. It managed to hit in between the red and gold circles, meaning I would've gotten either 8 or 9 points. "You're getting better already! See, you're a natural with that thing!" Tai said as I looked over to him and Yang. "Please, you should see me when I use my semblance to help out." I said as Tai looked at me curiously. "Oh? Then why don't you show us? Show me how much better you are when you use your semblance." Tai said as I took aim with another arrow. I pulled back the string, took a deep breath and then activated my semblance.
Something happened though. My vision wasn't zooming in on the target. It wasn't working. I tried again but still nothing happened. I kept trying over and over again until the harsh realization kicked in to me. I began to breath heavily, loosing my focus which made me misfire the arrow. I shot into a tree and Tai began to laugh at me. "What, is that it? I thought your semblance let you zoom in on things? Wouldn't that make it easier for you to hit stuff?" He asked me as I faced him and Yang. "No, something's wrong! I can't use my semblance anymore!" I said as they both began to look concerned. "What!? What do you mean!?" Yang asked as she rose to her feet. "I mean I can't activate it! When I try to use it like I normally would, it just doesn't work!" I said as they ran over to me. "How can that be? You can't just lose your semblance!" Tai said. "I don't know how it's gone! It just is!" I yelled as I sat down and took some deep breaths. "Maybe... it's because you lost one of your eyes?" Yang suggested which actually made a lot of sense. "It could be that. Or maybe it was from that bastard because he punctured my brain." I said as I punched the ground with my right fist. "Look, i'm not trying to be rude or anything.... but, you're just gonna have to move on from this." Tai said as I looked at him. "If it's gone... then it's gone. But that doesn't mean your weak without it. I know pleanty of strong people who have semblances that actually weaken them, and having no semblance at all is a much better situation. Sure it'll be tough getting used to not having it... but, i'm sure it's something that won't effect you at all." Tai explained as I grew a small smile. "Thanks..." I said as I wiped a tear from my eye. "Now c'mon. If you hit the bullseye, we can call it a day and head inside for dinner." Tai said as he helped me stand back up. "Okay..." I said as Yang but her new arm on my shoulder. "I know you said you'd always be there for me... but this time, i'm the one who's gonna be there for you." She said with a smile as I grew a bigger one too. She and Tai then walked away and I drew my next arrow. I pulled the string back and took an extra long deep breath. I then took aim, looking directly at the centre target. I waited as patiently as I could. I could feel my heart beating, I was standing so still, I probably looked like I was frozen. But I just waited until that right moment. And when the wind finally died down completely, I released my arrow. It soared through the trees and over to the target. With that one arrow, I struck dead centre on the target. "Yes! Woohoo!" I said as I raised my arms up in the air. "Wow! Forget everything I ever said! That's some shooting!" Tai said as he came over and patted me on the back. "Thanks. Not just for the new weapon... but for everything." I said as I gave Tai a hug. He gave one back. "No problem, eagle eye." Tai said which made me giggle a bit. "With that shooting, you could give Ruby a run for her money." Yang said as I went to hug her next. "Thanks for staying by my side all this time." I said as she hugged me back. "And thank you for being by mine." She said as the three of us headed inside to cook dinner. But... one thing still lingered on my mind. I had just lost a part of me that I've had for basically all my life. Things wouldn't be the same now that I no longer have a semblance.
