A Much Needed Discussion

Even with only one eye and no semblance, Leena's a god damn force to be reckoned with. Her and Yang as a combo is probably the strongest duo I can think of for this series. Well, other than one I have planned down the line, of course. We'll get to that later though. Right now, it's time to change perspectives again. It's time to go back over to everyone's favourite little fox faunus. Enjoy!

-PoV: Amber-

"Did he age backwards? He's possessed! Or reincarnated? Oh, isn't it weird!? Guys, stop. He looks afraid." Everyone said as we stared at this boy who was claiming to be professor Ozpin.

"It is weird, yes." Oscar, or.... Ozpin, said to us as he looked incredibly nervous.

"Okay, okay. Let's all just take a second and remember that this is very overwhelming for everyone." Qrow said, walking out of the kitchen. We finally sobered him up by getting him to drink some coffee. The five of us then backed away from Oscar to give him his space.

"Thanks." Oscar said to Qrow as everyone sat down on our couches. Oscar then started to curiously look at Ruby.

"Ah, sorry! It's just that.... I've never really met any huntsmen and huntresses before." Oscar said as Ruby just giggled.

"Well, uh... We've never met anyone with two souls before, so, first timers all around." Ruby said which to make Oscar less nervous. Qrow then cleared his throat, catching Oscar's attention.

"Not to break up the whole 'getting-to-know-you' game, but, we need to have a talk. Mind showing us your little parlor trick, kid?" Qrow said as Oscar let out a heavy sigh.

"Yeah.... okay. Just so you know, i'll still be here." Oscar said which confused us all. Oscar then took a deep breath and his body momentarily glowed green. He closed his eyes in that moment and when he opened them, they were glowing a bright orange.

"It is so very good to see you again, students." A voice that sounded like a mix of Oscar and Ozpin said to us.

"Professor.... Ozpin?" Ren questioned.

"Wait... what just happened?" I asked out of total confusion.

"Correct. And although I may be the one speaking, Oscar is still present, mentally. He's merely handed over the controls, so to speak. I'm afraid this all must be very perplexing." Oscar said as we all agreed with him.

"And alarming, and bizarre, and just really kind of hard to believe overall!" Nora said as professor Ozpin chuckled.

"It's good to see you children still have your sense of humor. I know you've all been through tremendous hardship already. I'm sorry." Ozpin said as he lowered his head.

"I mean, it's not your fault." I said.

"It's all my fault. I told you once that I made more mistakes than any other man, woman, and child on this planet, and I wasn't exaggerating. I'm... cursed. For thousands of years, I have walked the surface of Remnant, living, dying, and reincarnating in the body of a like-minded soul. The professor Ozpin you all met was not my first form, and clearly wasn't my last. It's.... an extraordinarily strenuous process on everyone involved." Ozpin explained as we all looked at each other, just barely understanding what he was saying.

"So who.... what.... are you?" Jaune asked him.

"I am the combination of countless men who've spent their loves trying to protect the people of Remnant. With every rebirth, my soul is eventually merged with another and I am changed, but my memories stay with me. This curse was bestowed upon me by the gods because I failed to stop Salem in the past. But we must stop her now." Ozpin said to all of us. Not just meaning everyone in the room, but everyone we've met until not. Our friends and family.

"How do we do that?" Ruby asked him.

"We start.... by ensuring the safety of the relic of knowledge." Ozpin said.

"This is perfect!" Nora said as she jumped out of her seat.

"We were stuck at a dead end, but now, we can just take cute little boy Ozpin to Lionheart and have him set things straight!" She said as Ozpin gave her a look.

"Please don't call me that." He said to her.

"Yeah, we're not sure that's the best idea." Qrow said as Nora sat back down, looking all grumpy.

"But, I thought the headmasters all took their orders from you." Ren said as Ozpin gave him a nod.

"That was the intention. Four lieutenants I can trust, especially during times of reincarnation. But Qrow told me about your meeting with Leonardo. He isn't just behaving irrationally, he's disobeying specific instructions I had left him. Something's wrong. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I don't want to rule out any possibilities either. No one outside this room knows that I've paired with Oscar, and I think it may be best to keep it that way." Ozpin explained.

"Play things close to the chest until we get a better hand." Qrow said as we all nodded in agreement.

"Precisely. Now, we have two steps ahead of us. The first is enlisting the aid of more huntsmen." Ozpin said.

"But the Mistral council-" Ren began to say as Qrow cut him off.

"Doesn't own every huntsman in the kingdom, and I've been here enough times to know where we can find some more." Qrow explained.

"So long as they're trustworthy." Ozpin said as Qrow just looked at him.

"You can trust them to put up a good fight. I'll throw together a list tonight." Qrow said as he went to rest his feet on the centre coffee table. But the moment he laid his feet on it, the table broke. No doubt this was the effect of his semblance.

"Good luck with that." Nora jokingly said as Qorw did nothing but clench his fists.

"After that, we can move on to step two." Ozpin said as he picked up his cane.

"What's step two?" I asked him as he began to point his cane at all of us.

"Getting you five into fighting shape." Ozpin said as we all looked at each other with concern.

"But, we already know how to fight." Ruby said as Ozpin specifically started pointing at her.

"You can only fight so long as you have Crescent Rose, but you're still lacking in hand-to-hand combat." Ozpin said to her.

"Well, uh.... yeah." Ruby said as Ozpin began pointing at me.

"Ms. Lisa, your performance in the finals of the Vytal festival tournament showed me that you are fully capable of handling yourself in close quarters. But your weakness lies in your decision making. Up until now, you were one to recieve orders and fulfill them, but you must learn to think on your own actions. Don't rely on others ordering you so often." Ozpin explained as I nodded in agreement. Ozpin then stated pointing at Jaune.

"Mr. Arc, i'm glad to hear you've greatly improved, but sorry to say, you've yet to unlock your semblance." Ozpin said as he put his cane back down.

"All of you still have a ways to go before you're ready to pose any real threat to Salem and her forces. And though Oscar can give me temporary control, he'll need to strengthen his body and his aura. He'll inherit my muscle memory in no time, but practice will expedite the process." Ozpin explained to us.

"But, if Qrow's out looking for huntsmen, then who's going to teach us?" Ruby asked. Ozpin then did an amazing backflip and landed perfectly on his chair, twirling his cane in his fingers. It honestly caught us all pretty off guard.

"Well, I believe I was the headmaster of Beacon academy. We have approximately one month before classes resume at Haven. If Salem were to plan an attack, it would make sense that it would occur prior to the students' return. It's not much time but it's better than nothing. Just don't expect me to go easy on you." Ozpin explained as his body suddenly glowed green again for a second. He then fell over backwards off his chair, indicating that he changed back to Oscar.

"You've gotta be kidding me." Oscar said as I helped him stand back up.

"Okay, you kids have fun training with him. I'm gonna go and put together my list." Qrow said as he walked upstairs.

"Well, ready to get started, then?" I asked Oscar as he nervously nodded his head.

-2 Days Later-

All of our training was going rather smoothly, at least in my opinion. Ren and Nora were now more fluent in close quarters combat, and Ruby was slowly improving her skills as well. Jaune still hasn't unlocked his semblance but he's not giving up yet. I'm learning to not rely so much on my semblance and only use it if I absolutely need it. And Oscar has improved immensely since we started. He's learning not to hesitate and finds openings to attack. He's a very fast learner.

Currently, Oscar was in hand-to-hand combat with Ruby.

"Man, Oz wasn't kidding. Oscar's really picking this stuff up fast." Jaune said as we watched them fight. Oscar delivered a solid punch to Ruby's face and Ruby seemed to grow angry a bit. She then retaliated by punching Oscar in the face and sending him sliding backwards on his back.

"Oooooo, that's gonna leave a mark." I thought to myself as Oscar stood back up.

"Ha! Yes! I did it!" Ruby cheered as she turned her back to him.

"Why didn't you tell me!?" Oscar said as we knew he was talking to Ozpin in his mind. Oscar then glowed green briefly again, indicating Ozpin was now in control.

"Not bad, Miss Rose. But Oscar doesn't have the years of training that you do. Or I do." Ozpin said as he slowly began to walk towards Ruby.

"Oh, um... maybe we should, uh... take a break." Ruby said as Ozpin suddenly rushed her, going for a straight punch with his right arm. Ruby managed to dodge it but Ozpin followed it up with two more punches. Ruby blocked them with her arms but left her sides open. Ozpin then delivered a punch to the left side of Ruby's head and made her lose balance.

"It almost isn't fair." I said as Jaune and Nora agreed with me. Ozpin then leaped above Ruby and delivered a midair roundhouse kick to Ruby's head. She fell over but up immediately and tried to punch Ozpin's head. Ozpin ducked and then jumped up, hitting Ruby's chin with an uppercutting headbutt. Ruby fell over once again and this time, I think it was all over.

"The next time you want to throw a left cross, remember to push off with your appropriate foot. And as always, do be aware of any openings." Ozpin explained as Ruby ever so slowly began to get up.

"Got it." She said with obvious pain in her voice.

"Now then, who's next?" Ozpin asked as I walked forward.

"I'll take you on. And if I beat you, does that make me the new headmaster of Beacon?" I jokingly asked.

"Yes it does. That is.... If you can best me." Ozpin said as me and Ruby switched places.

"I'm afraid your hand-to-hand skills are far too much for young Oscar, so I will stay in and fight you. Are you ready?" Ozpin asked as I didn't bother to answer and rushed him.

"Attacking while i'm mid-sentence? A clever tactic!" Ozpin said as he also charged. We met each other and interlocked our hands together.

"I never really think there's any need for chit-chat in the middle of a fight. So I tend to just get on with things." I explained to him as I went to strike Ozpin with my left knee. But he jumped up in the air while still holding onto me and he did a handstand on my hands.

"A predictable move, Miss Lisa." Ozpin said as he bent his arms and delivered a hard headbutt to the top of my head. I let go of him and he landed about six feet in front of me.

"Don't think a little hit like that will take me out!" I said as I leaped up into the air, did a front flip and moved into a descending axe kick. Ozpin jumped back as my foot smashed against the ground, breaking a bit of the concrete. Ozpin came running at me again but I followed my attack up with a right sweeping kick.

I managed to land a hit on Ozpin and trip him up, leaving him open in the air. I quickly got up to my feet and tried to land a strong uppercut to Ozpin but he caught my fist mid-punch. He then used my momentum to lift me over him and throw me onto the ground. Ozpin landed on me and sat their while I coughed up some dust.

"Not bad, Miss Lisa. But you're hesitating between attacks. Like I said before, you must learn to rely on your own instincts. It is clear that you still wish to be told what to do. But in the heat of battle, sometimes that is not an option." Ozpin said as he got off of me. I got up and readied myself for another attack.

"Come on, you can do this. Focus.... focus.... focus! It's just you here, no one else. Just forget everyone else is here, and only listen to your own mind." I thought to myself as I took a deep breath.

"What do you say, Miss Lisa? Have you had enough?" Ozpin asked me as I shook my head.

"Not even close. Now bring it on." I said intimidatingly.

"Very well." Ozpin said as he charged me once again. I planted my right foot on the ground and I proceeded to turn into a reverse roundhouse kick with my left leg.

"A strong attack but you've done it far too early!" Ozpin said as he leaped up into the air and came back down, readying his right fist to strike me. But in the middle of my kick, I leaped off the ground with my right leg and switch places with my left leg, using the momentum to swing my right leg around and catch Ozpin off guard. My right leg and his arm struck and we were both sent flying. Ozpin managed to land on his knees while I was sent crashing into the top of a tree. I fell out of the tree and landed on my back hard on the ground.

"Ouch...." I said in pain as I rested my head back. That was it for me.

"An interesting and risky tactic, Miss Lisa. Fooling me by switching tactics in the middle of an attack. It often fails but you managed to perform it beautifully. Well done." Ozpin said as he walked over and helped me stand up.

"Thank you, professor." I said to him as he switched back to Oscar. He fell to his knees and was breathing heavily, no doubt exhausted from all the fighting.

"Oh, hey! Are you okay!?" Ruby asked as she ran over to help me lift Oscar up.

"How is this so exhausting?" Oscar questioned.

Your body isn't used to this kind of training, not to mention generating a defensive aura on your own. It takes intense concentration at first, but in time it will become second nature, allowing you to deflect attacks and gradually heal your wounds. After that, you can begin focusing on your semblance, whatever that may be." Ren explained as Oscar seemed to grow curious.

"Semblance?" Oscar asked.

"You know! Like your very own superpower! Everyone's got one! It's just a matter of finding it and mastering it! Ruby moves super fast, electricity makes me stronger, Amber gets a boost to her defense and strength, Ren can mask emotions and Jaune.... um...." Nora began to explain.

"I can't do anyth-" Jaune tried to say but Ruby cut him off.

"Jaune's like you! He hasn't found his semblance yet, but we know he will! And you will, too! We all just have to try and help each other get stronger." Ruby said.

"Cool." Oscar replied.

"A common philosophy is that a warrior's semblance is part of who they are. Some say your personality and character can define your semblance. While some claim that it's the other way around. Of course, there are still many who don't see any connection at all." Ren explained.

"It's hard to know when you know sometimes. Ren's semblance was unlocked from intense stress." Nora explained.

"And mine kicked in during training one day." Ruby said.

"I got mad one time and I suddenly punched a whole through a brick wall." I explained.

"What about you?" Oscar asked Nora.

"Oh. Struck by lightning. Didn't die. Crazy Thursday." Nora explained as Oscar looked a little stunned.

"I just don't understand what's wrong with me. I train. I meditate. But..." Jaune began to say but Oscar suddenly changed again, allowing Ozpin to take over.

"Don't worry, Mr. Arc. Your journey is far from over. And the same might be said for all of you. Unlocking your semblance isn't the end. It can still grow and evolve. Providing you're still willing to put in the work, who knows what could happen." Ozpin said as he changed back to Oscar.

"Well, I'd say we've done enough training for today. And besides, my back kinda hurts from our fight." I jokingly said as everyone laughed.

"Yeah, I think we're all pretty tired. Let's call it and get something to eat. I think it's my turn to cook tonight." Ruby said.

"No, please not again." We all said as we thought back to what Ruby made the last time for us. It was some ungodly concoction of a couple birds, an unknown liquid, some berries from a forest, and quite possibly some rocks. There was something hard in it.

"I'll handle the cooking for tonight." Ren said as we all agreed. We retired into the night feeling pretty accomplished of ourselves. But we were still far from being ready. And with time counting down on us, we had to act quickly because Salem and her forces are sure to attack Haven very, very soon.
